One that will do just one night DBB (Saturday), at short notice

Cheers

Price range/
Expensive end, Crathorne Hall.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 18:52:13

Middling price range ?

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 18:54:14

Most of the good hotels I have looked at have a minimum stay of 2 nights. We can only manage one. It's for a 50th so want to stay in the hotel not be buggering around looking for restaurants and want it pretty nice (but not silly money)

will google Crathorne

Old Dungeon Ghyll. Not posh, but my alltime favourite smile

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 19:46:04

Someone's beat me to the Old Dungeon Ghyll.

WereTricksPotter Mon 29-Oct-12 19:53:19

Yes, I have been in the Climber's Bar with a pint of scrumpy for the past hour, Vi va - what kept you? grin

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 19:54:44

2 nights minimum sad

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 19:55:44

I was looking for a bit more luxury, tbh (on this occasion)

Not muddy boots and a pint of scrumpy grin

WereTricksPotter Mon 29-Oct-12 19:58:57

Oh, is it 2 nights? Sorry.

It is carpeted in the hotel bit!

How about The Langdale Chase? That's bigger and posher, but may be 2 nights min too.

irton hall in Eskdale is lovely. Just spent a night in the Clock Tower and it was fabulous.

We've just come back from Raithwaite Hall in Whitby and it was incredible. It has a spa, beautiful gardens, excellent food and a short walk to Sandsend which is a gorgeous unspoilt beach. Oh and the moors.

Judges is nice, similar price to Crathorne. If you stay at one of those hotels you could get a taxi to Yarm and eat there - lots of choice.

I stayed at Aldwark manor recently, it was very nice and there is a pub very near by (2 minutes walk!) that did gorgeous food, would highly recommend.

I have heard that the Black Swan in Helsmley is lovely.

Drunken Duck?Lakeside Hotel on windermere?

bluesky Mon 29-Oct-12 20:03:26

Feversham Arms in Helmsley

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 20:04:30

I googled Crathorne and it came up with "Hand Picked Hotels"

it looks lovely, and there was also another one nr Wetherby, the "Wood Hall" that does a champagne DBB for £230

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 20:05:49

Whitby a bit too far over as we are near Lancaster the Friday evening before (up from Manchester area)

was looking to push on up into Lakes or a small jump over into Yorks

Ktay Mon 29-Oct-12 20:06:00

How about the Lakeside Hotel near Windermere? It's been several years since I stayed there but it was lovely.

cathpip Mon 29-Oct-12 20:06:14

How about the Crab and Lobster near thirsk in North Yorks, its a restaurant with a manor house that does themed luxury rooms . I was taken for my 30th and would highly recommend, could'nt comment on price though!!

ajandjjmum Mon 29-Oct-12 20:09:10

I like Lakeside too.

Ktay Mon 29-Oct-12 20:09:22

Oops sorry twentyten, slow typing. Have heard good things about drunken duck too.

VivaLeBeaver Mon 29-Oct-12 20:09:53

If its last minute I'd ring up places even if they say minimum 2 nights. Surely if they have empty rooms they won't turn money away?

Ktay Mon 29-Oct-12 20:11:28

Or l'enclume in cartmel?

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 20:17:00

wow, thanks everybody, my googling can't keep up !

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Mon 29-Oct-12 21:56:48

bump ?

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Tue 30-Oct-12 10:20:17

another bump for another day

am still looking, have one of two of your suggestions up my sleeve so far (most don't do one night)

RalphWooo Tue 30-Oct-12 10:23:19

Don't know if it's a bit out of the area you're looking for but The Inn At Whitewell is seriously good.

RalphWooo Tue 30-Oct-12 10:24:27

Just had a look though and wow! They've put the prices up since I was last there!

TunipTheHollowVegemalLantern Tue 30-Oct-12 10:24:52

Are you prepared to consider a posh B&B rather than a hotel? If so, Shallowdale House in Ampleforth is terrific. They do dinner which doesn't have a choice of menu (though they would take into account if you don't like something and check what they're planning is ok) but is cooked really well.
They have an alcohol license too.

Somewhere else we went recently that was good - we camped at the Aysgarth Falls Hotel and had dinner in the restaurant, and based on how good the food was and how generally lovely the staff were the rooms are probably nice too. It used to be rubbish but re-opened with swish decor and food but reasonable prices.

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Tue 30-Oct-12 11:11:14

< madly googling >

Had forgotten about the Trough of Bowland. Gorgeous area. I suppose we could up to Lancaster and back down on the Sat night and home from there.

Have heard of the Inn at Whitewell. £208 for one night's B+B is a bit steep though, bearing in mind we will be paying for a meal and drinks on top of that shock

HappyHalloweenMotherFucker Tue 30-Oct-12 11:13:57

Shallowdale House a bit too intimate/small. Would like to be a bit more anonymous IYSWIM
