We need inspiration... so, what was your first dance?

HeyMicky Mon 25-Jun-12 21:58:44

Baby I Love You - The Ramones, followed by Better when you're Naked - Ida Maria

peachypips Mon 25-Jun-12 22:02:17

'Thank you' - Dido.

Elvis - I can't help falling in live with you it wasn't my choice btw but I had to let dh have a say on something!

ladymariner Mon 25-Jun-12 22:07:28

Uglymush Mon 25-Jun-12 22:08:38

bump

mum23girlys Tue 26-Jun-12 20:50:03

ours was Lonestar - Amazed

Hadn't heard it at a wedding before that but heard it at several since.

IwishIwasmoreorganised Tue 26-Jun-12 20:56:09

Nobody does it better by Carly Simon. It was DH's choice, but I quite liked it!

tattychicken Tue 26-Jun-12 21:01:41

Maybe I'm amazed, Wings.

Tangointhenight Tue 26-Jun-12 21:10:46

We've only just begun by the Carpenters...still makes me cry the words are so fitting!!

cocolepew Tue 26-Jun-12 21:13:09

Unchained melody by the righteous brothers. It was my uncles favourite but he died before I was married. It made me feel like he was there for a few minutes.

Novia Tue 26-Jun-12 21:13:58

I'll be there - The Parlotones. We got married 2 weeks ago and the lyrics were so beautiful and appropriate! YouTube it! smile Either way - have an amazing time!

HeffalumpsAndWoozles Tue 26-Jun-12 21:28:19

'Every day I love you' by Boyzone

Whatever you choose it should mean something to you, doesn't have to be traditionally soppy just something that makes you both smile/cry/want to have a right good boogie and isn't by Chesney Hawkes grin

NellyBluth Tue 26-Jun-12 21:33:22

We've decided not to get married, but before that had actually managed to narrow a potential first dance song down to a shortlist of...

Don't Stop Believin' - Journey (but this was a few years ago, so that's well and truly scrapped since the whole Glee debacle)

Take It Easy - The Eagles

Golden Years - David Bowie

Agree that you should pick a song that is important to you, rather than one that sounds like a first dance song. A friend of mine had that Groovejet/Spiller dance song as that was their song.

Elkieb Tue 26-Jun-12 21:34:16

'I can hear music' by the Beach Boys is perfect. If only I'd remembered it through the haze of pregnancy and not whilst walking down the road 7 months later blush

derekthehamster Tue 26-Jun-12 21:34:57

Moon River, still love it grin

Molehillmountain Sat 30-Jun-12 23:39:14

"it had to be you" obnoxiously the line "for all your faults I love you still" referred to his faults not mine grin

Molehillmountain Sat 30-Jun-12 23:39:41

Autocorrect! Obviously not obnoxiously!

FadingAwayToAHippo Sun 22-Jul-12 09:17:49

Getting married in 12 weeks, first dance will be Nothing Else Matters by Metallica then second dance will Life With You by the Proclaimers.

I can't wait smile

itsjustmeanon Fri 27-Jul-12 14:42:22

We had Adele Make You Feel My Love. It was the only song we could both agree on. We're not very good dancers and wanted something we could sway to.

onebigwish Fri 27-Jul-12 14:44:11

We have all the time in the world - louis armstrong

Cocodale Fri 27-Jul-12 15:05:56

My husbands choice Bryan Adams Have you ever really loved a woman, a very pleasant surprise for me.

perplexedpirate Fri 27-Jul-12 17:08:26

We had Something Changed by Pulp. We did a little dance to it too (outs self).

We walked down the aisle to Songs of Love by Divine Comedy and back up to Baby, I Love You by the Ramones.

The guy working there said it was the best music choice he'd heard for a wedding, which was nice. smile

FaceCrack Fri 27-Jul-12 17:10:44

We settled on what a wonderful world by Louis Armstrong.

Dh wanted afternoon delight from Anchorman grin

daisydee43 Sat 01-Sep-12 21:07:30

I had no idea but chose wet wet wet love is all around, about a wk before wedding after hearing it on radio blush

RikersBeard Sat 01-Sep-12 21:11:56

pirate we very nearly had Something Changed!

But we had God Only Knows by the Beach Boys instead. It makes me a bit teary still.

StellaNova Sat 01-Sep-12 21:13:26

This Will Be Our Year by the Zombies, followed by Let's Get Married by the Proclaimers

scarlettsmummy2 Sat 01-Sep-12 21:14:08

When you say nothing at all- ronan keating

lucidlady Sat 01-Sep-12 21:15:55

Iris by the goo goo dolls. I adore that song.

Trazzletoes Sat 01-Sep-12 21:17:41

And I love her by The Beatles. DH wanted Angel by Jimi Hendrix but didn't want to dance for 6 minutes grin. And I love her was the shortest song I could find for him!

LouMacca Sat 01-Sep-12 21:17:45

You do something to me - Paul Weller

Lagartijadoesthecrazyshake Sat 01-Sep-12 21:18:12

Have I told you lately by Van Morrison. Nice words and tune and easy to dance to.

DesperatelySeekingPomBears Sun 02-Sep-12 09:57:28

We're having 'Happy to be stuck with you' by Huey Lewis grin it's that or 'You're the reason our kids are ugly' but that seems a tad harsh on DS.

gladders Sun 02-Sep-12 10:01:51

'Flowers in the window' by Travis - great words.....

bigTillyMint Sun 02-Sep-12 10:04:35

Macy Gray - I try. You can't dance to itgrin

EdithWeston Sun 02-Sep-12 10:08:31

We didn't have that sort of wedding.

But I went to one where they had 'You're my best friend' by Queen and that stuck in my mind as a lovely choice.

DulcetMoans Mon 03-Sep-12 09:03:17

Won't say what we are planning (not sure why, you probably don't know me!) but I would have like you and me song - band escapes me! How annoying, I know I know that. Anyway, you know, 'you and me,always, and forever!'

eggsandwich Thu 13-Sep-12 19:46:49

Rock Me for old time sake- FREDDIE JACKSON

We had..
Everything Michael Buble for our first dance. DH rang me and sang it to me the day after got together

then we had Better Together by Jack johnson to dance to with DS

We also had band of gold by Seth Lakeman in the church during the registers which is a blissful song..

Hope you enjoy your first dance as much as we did!

SingingSands Thu 13-Sep-12 19:55:21

Bryan Adams - Heaven (live accoustic version). It was lovely.

I heard it again recently on Radio 2, whilst stacking the dishwasher and was transported out of my domestic drudgery, back to that time again for a few moments smile

Virgil Thu 13-Sep-12 19:56:07

Let's stay together Al Green. Makes me feel all mushy if I hear it smile

AGreenie Thu 13-Sep-12 20:02:48

Got married 4 weeks ago, we had 'us against the world' by Coldplay - we would have had yellow but had that sung by choir for my entrance ...

Not quite married yet, but I think we've narrowed it down to Candi Staton's You Got The Love. My favourite EVER was some friends last year who had Fleetwood Mac and Everywhere...

RuckAndRoll Mon 17-Sep-12 15:26:49

Starship - Nothings gonna stop us now followed by Can't take my eyes off of you (very personal to us but harder to dance to!)

Just hit play on my laptop music and it played Starship smile

urbanturban Mon 17-Sep-12 15:46:33

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison, 'our' song.......wanted something a bit different, (and not soppy) as we didn't want to do the whole 'awkward swaying' thing!

Followed by 'Amazed' by Lonestar, where we DID do the awkward swaying...! grin

LostItYearsAgo Tue 18-Sep-12 13:22:50

Beyonce's version of Ave Maria. Still gives me goosebumps if I hear it now grin

Everybody needs somebody by the Blues Brothers. Actually that was the second song, we requested "a bit of non-descript slush to sway to" for our first dance, then they let rip with the Blues Brothers and everyone joined us on the dance floor.

JoJoB77 Tue 18-Sep-12 14:13:38

We had 'my best girl' by UB40 smile

shineypeacock Tue 18-Sep-12 14:18:59

We had Lovely Day by Bill Withers, just sums us up.

"Then I look at you, and the world's allright with me"

Got married 11 weeks ago and still make sme well up

TobyLerone Fri 12-Oct-12 15:04:24

I'm getting married in January.

We're having 'The Fastest Way Back Home' by Frank Turner, followed by 'When You Walk In The Room' by Fyfe Dangerfield.

Walking in to 'One Day Like This' by Elbow, and back out to 'Radar Detector' by Darwin Deez.

Haahoostory Fri 12-Oct-12 15:19:13

Stevie wonder 'for once in my life' dancing to that with my husband was one of the best moments of my life. (smile)

Hayleyh34 Fri 12-Oct-12 15:22:54

"The Way you look Tonight" Tony Bennett

wintera Sun 14-Oct-12 09:15:55

We had Paul Weller's You do something to me.

1st dance - I don't know much but I know I love you, Aaron Neville and Linda Ronstadt
2nd song - wonderful world, Louis Armstrong

Song after they pronounced us husband and wife - my first my last my everything, Barry White grin (that one was most fun, everyone cheered)

Had a wee sniffle reading this thread!

insancerre Sun 14-Oct-12 09:36:17

We had Marian by the Sisters of Mercy
I don't do soppy or sentimental. This song is beautiful though
linky if you are not familiar with the song

roughtyping Sun 14-Oct-12 09:36:19

StellaNova think we're going to go for This Will Be Our Year as well. smile

We aren't getting married until summer 2014 but we are both quite into music and it's been a big part of our relationship. Think I want to walk down the aisle to Sea of Love by Cat Power.

I'm still not sure. There's so many songs I love that I want to include!

My friends' first dance was to Everlong by Foo Fighters (the acoustic version), it was lovely. She walked down the aisle to Heartbeats (I think, I'm v sleepy!) by Jose Gonzales. Really lovely.

Would love to leave to The Wannadies - You & Me Song grin

roughtyping Sun 14-Oct-12 09:39:35

Oh - or Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen - love that song smile

Kittenkatzen Sun 14-Oct-12 09:41:02

We had Can I Walk With You by India Arie. Not massively well known but the words are lovely and it's quite upbeat as opposed to soppy which wouldn't have been very "us".

BikeRunSki Sun 14-Oct-12 09:46:42

My baby just cares for me - Nina Simone
followed by God Only Knows - The Beach Boys. Possibly not the most appropriate for a civil wedding.

CoolBananas Sun 14-Oct-12 10:16:36

You're the first, my last, my everything by Barry White. It was really fun to dance to!

Stiffybyng Sat 20-Oct-12 10:19:45

We had God Only Knows to walk into, and Mr Blue Skies to walk out to. First dance was Can't Help Falling in Love With You, chosen by my other half, as it's one of his team's anthems. Lovely words though.

The wonder of you by Elvis.....words just sum up us to a tee. The whole room was singing it; really was amazing :-)

My brother sang, with his guitar, 'i love you because' by Johnny cash during the signing of the register. The church literally shook when everyone applauded :-) Another great song!

My best friend had 'I'm feeling good' by Nina Simone...

Sorry, I got married 8 weeks ago and think I've bored everyone senseless....hence me hijacking posts here!

newmum001 Tue 23-Oct-12 18:38:29

I'll be having Save The Last Dance for my by The Drifters. My grandad was my hero and died a few years ago. This was his favourite song and will be my tribute to him on my wedding day.

Second dance will be I'll Be by Edwin McCain.

yahnyinlondon Tue 23-Oct-12 18:56:31

We had two weddings (long story, we met and live in uk but families are in two locations in Oz).

Family wedding in Oz walked down aisle to Canon in D by Pachelbel and had Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra for our first dance.

London wedding walked down aisle to T by Glasser, lyrics are beautiful. For our first dance we let everyone choose one and they chose Land Down Under but the dj segwayed into Fly Me to the Moon for us.

ubwlondon Tue 23-Oct-12 20:14:26

Al Green, Let's stay together for us as well. On a Greek beach under the stars...

shockers Tue 23-Oct-12 21:24:26

Dulcetmoans, it's by the Wannadies. We had that as a sort of 'first dance'... our reception was in our garden and we just sort of bounced around grin.

Polyethyl Tue 23-Oct-12 21:31:09

The eightsome reel - great fun

winemakesmeclever Tue 23-Oct-12 21:32:27

gladys knight's "you're the best thing that ever happened to me". The words were (and still are) very meaningful.

Nicole2781 Wed 19-Dec-12 18:09:01

Ahh these songs are lovely grin

I'm getting married in 7 weeks and will be having "love you till the end" by the pogues (the version from p.s I love you) I can't wait!!!smile

Beaverfeaver Thu 03-Jan-13 10:05:47

Waiting for a star to fall by Boy meets Girl

(Soundtrack song to 3 men and a little lady)

SageBush Thu 03-Jan-13 10:14:51

Night and Day - in an ideal world it would've been sung by Ella Fitzgerald herself, but we had quite a cool band who made a decent job of it, and then played lots of jazzy, rat-pack sort of stuff - it was great!

catinsantasboots Thu 03-Jan-13 10:21:29

Last Night a DJ Saved My Life

GlaikitFizzHogmany Thu 03-Jan-13 10:27:19

We had chasing cars. DHs choice, wouldn't have been mine, but the band we had did a lovely version. And dh really did need to have some sort of input to the day wink

SoYo Thu 03-Jan-13 13:25:39

It had to be you - the Harry Connick Jr version from When Harry Met Sally (we both love the film, only one in our house we have 2 copies of!). We tried to teach ourselves to Foxtrot in our dining room with large amounts of wine & YouTube. The results were not slick but were funny!

SweetTeaVodka Thu 03-Jan-13 13:45:38

You Had Me From Hello by Bon Jovi.

I don't want to miss a thing by Aerosmith, and I walked the aisle to Canon in D Minor by Pachelbel which still makes me teary when I hear it and its our 5th wedding anniversary tomorrow smile

Sallster Thu 03-Jan-13 14:08:55

Home, by Depeche Mode. It's a lot longer than you think when it's just the two of you on the dancefloor!!

BadIdeaBear Sun 06-Jan-13 23:05:43

A bit dark for us... our (loose) theme is angels but def not the Robbie Williams for us!!! Going with
Angel by Massive Attack and gonna get someone to teach us a slinky slow dance. Then segue into Bad Romance!! hehe

BadIdeaBear Sun 06-Jan-13 23:06:42

Chasing Cars is lovely, GlaikitFizzHogmany - nice choice by your DH! I'm gonna be singing that with a group during our drinks reception!

bureni Sun 06-Jan-13 23:11:02

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd.

janji Sun 06-Jan-13 23:41:42

When you say nothing at all; ronan keating. Cheesy to say the least but it was 2000 and words seemed to fit our feelings spot on.

cece Sun 06-Jan-13 23:48:06

Paul Weller - You Do Something To Me.

bsmirched Sun 06-Jan-13 23:51:04

We had Someone to Watch Over Me by Ella Fitzgerald.

ChristmasNamechangeBridezilla Sun 06-Jan-13 23:54:57

Walked in to Ben Howard "Only Love"
Left to "Your Body is a Wonderland" John Mayer

First dance started as Stars "My Favourite Book" then after a few bars became The Futureheads version of "Hounds of Love" and the wedding party all joined in and started jumping around, was a bit lively for a first dance but its what we wanted. grin
