The dress

I've seen some really helpful threads on here helping out bride-to-bes finding their wedding dress, so I am hoping for some help too!
I no idea where to begin looking. I would like a simple wedding dress, possibly mermaid style, possibly a just below the knee peplum hem.
Any ideas where to begin would be much appreciated.

oooh congratulations!!!
Whats your budget and do you want to go and try loads on?
I hate trying things on especially at formal wedding shops so i just looked online.
So my top tips for online for a budget of around £1000 are
BDHLN which is an american wedding site but delivered to me really quickly and had an amazing range of dresses or 'theoutnet' and 'net a porter' which stock reduced priced designer gowns, not specifically wedding dresses but general evening dresses.

I got married (second time) 2 years ago. What I did was take myself quietly to a couple of low key wedding dress shops on my own first to try on a few dresses to get over my nerves and to get an idea about what suited me.
Then when I was ready I went with friends. I also asked the shop assistants to get me what they thought would suit me. Omg it really showed who knew their stuff!!
Good luck and enjoy.

I got my dress from Etsy. I paid about €500, sent my measurements to the lovely lady in Germany and she made it. We had one dress fitting over Skype and one 'live' dress fitting in Amsterdam (I live an hour from there, she happened to be visiting). I loved my dress, it was quite unusual and I got loads of compliments on it.

What sort of budget have you got? Anything you love or hate like sparkles or lace?

Don't want to hijack the thread but hedgehoghedgehog did you end up wearing the dress you got bhldn? If so did you find the sizes on the site
Matched your size? Also if you live in the U.K. Did you have to pay custom tax and what were there returns like? Sorry for loads of questions I just have found one I love but am worried if I buy it and don't like it K can't return it!

Oh hi sorry just seen this Snow123
Yes i wore the dress i got from BDHLN. It was lovely, very pleased with it.
I did have to pay custom tax but i cant remember how much! I do remember they made me pay it on the doorstep lol before giving me the parcel!
The sizing is american however it doesnt tally up to british sizes in the way you might expect. Each style of dress is completely different so dont go by the number sizing, look instead at the exact measurements of the dress which are listed. Measure yourself with a tape measure and buy the nearest waist size.
For example i am a uk size 12 usually and i have a 28inch waist. I actually ended up buying an american size 4 dress, which if you looked up the size translation would translate as a UK size 8!! I did have to have the dress altered slightly around the shoulders but it was fairly cheap to do so.
I hear that the returns are very good, however i never used the service myself. My dress was delivered to me much faster than i expected which was good too. x
