Need wedding witness in Devon in Totnes or Newton Abbott on 13/08/16

Hi,
We'd like to make our holiday even more special by getting married whilst we're in Devon, but our children will be 14, 15 and 17, so only the eldest will be able to be a witness and the registry office can't provide one. Is there anyone who could help by being a witness? The available slots are 10am in Totnes or anytime until 12pm in Newton Abbott on Saturday 13th August. I'm worried about booking when there's no guarantee that we could find somebody on the day! Obviously we would reimburse for any travel costs :-)
Fingers crossed!

PM me if you're totally stuck - am in Plymouth so not a million miles away and we're around that weekend I think. Happy to pop down - it'll take about 30 minutes on the train. Just as a bit of local info - Totnes is quite a bit nicer in terms of outlook, position etc than Newton Abbot. Would you agree username?

I won't be close by unfortunately but just wanted to say if you don't really have a tie to either place I would opt for Totnes rather than Newton Abbott - it is just a much prettier place with a lovely high street so lots of options for a champagne brunch after! Totes has a bit of a hippy vibe - I'm sure you could find some willing witnesses on the day if needs be.

Have a fab day - congratulations!

Have you considered phoning a retirement home?

I used to work in one and I frequently heard stories from some of the residents who dressed up for a day and sneaked in the back of weddings at the local church. That was over 30 years ago but I'm sure many might like the opportunity to do something different.

Enjoy your day though.

Don't you need to be 18 to be a witness?

I would agree with other up thread and would opt for Totnes over Newton Abbott
