....which was a 4pm church service with no sit down meal but a finger buffet of sandwiches, sausage rolls, crisps, chicken goujons, quiche, pizzas and wedges what would you think?

I'd think yum. I'd think they were very sensible not spending masses of cash on one day (as I did). I'd think maybe that was what they could afford.

Why, what would you think?

Nolim · 10/03/2015 20:09

I would try to enjoy myself and obviously celebrate the marriage of two ppl.

I am sorry i think i am missing something here. What is the problem?

CMOTDibbler · 10/03/2015 20:15

Sounds great! Though as a coeliac, I'd hope there might be something other than crisps I could eat

SavoyCabbage · 10/03/2015 20:15

I would think 'what a lovely relaxed wedding'.

Crazyeyes86 · 10/03/2015 20:16

I'm hoping there isn't one as these are currently our plans for our April wedding! We're on a tight budget and my parents have generously offered to cover the cost of the reception wo we don't want to overspend. The venue we have found is very cheap but this is the only food they really offer outside of a sit down meal or a £7 a head 'wet' buffet of lasagne, chilli etc which I didn't think sounded very appealing

The only wedding I've been to like this one was my own (but with registry office service rather than church).
So I would think - thank god I'm not the only one who wants to get married without spending a fortune!

MildDrPepperAddiction · 10/03/2015 20:21

I would be happy for my friends/family in getting married and enjoy the reception. Weddings can be too formal and not very much fun. This sounds lovely. I often wish we'd done this.

Crazyeyes86 · 10/03/2015 20:23

Exactly! Even if we had the money I wouldn't justify spending it on one day. Thanks all I feel happier with our choice now! We were planning to elope abroad but had to change our plans so this seemed the next best option !! Smile

And this is perfect for the afternoon. If it was an evening wedding a sit down meal would be better but at 4 or 5 a finger buffet sounds good.

anothernumberone · 10/03/2015 20:26

We brought 5 people to a restaurant so it was probably cheaper than what you are planning. We loved it. Yours sounds like it will be a fab day. I don't think it matters what others think. You do whatever works for you.

BackforGood · 10/03/2015 20:27

I think the key to all guests being happy, is some kind of 'heads up' about what the plan for the day is.
As far as I'm concerned, that sounds very nice, as indeed does an 'afternoon tea' Reception that friends had a couple of years ago, as long as guests know that is what is being served and can have the rest of their food that day around it/ knowing what they will be having and approx at what time..... I'd assume I was being fed by around 6.30 from a 4pm wedding - if you were thinking of making it an 'evening buffet' then I think guests need to be aware they won't be eating until then.

Koalafications · 10/03/2015 20:29

Sounds like a lovely wedding, OP.

Crazyeyes86 · 10/03/2015 20:31

We are planning on having the food ready for about 6/6.30. It is a function room so drinks are nice and cheap and we were going to do speeches and first dance after food. We are not having separate day and evening guests just inviting everyone to the whole day. We were thinking of having a seating plan though as just to avoid chaos on the evening

Crazyeyes86 · 10/03/2015 20:33

I did mention to oh that maybe we should state on the invitation that the wedding will be followed by a finger buffet so that people know to Have a decent lunch. My only concern is whether we need to serve extra food later on the evening if we are having no additional guests

I am going to a 4pm wedding. They are following it with drinks and canapés, speeches etc, then dancing and hog roast in the evening. I think its a great idea to do a buffet.

youmakemydreams · 10/03/2015 20:53

I think it sounds great. Tbh I'd prefer that to a too fancy meal I won't enjoy and you will probably find that it's very filling too.

iklboo · 10/03/2015 20:54

I'd think 'what am I going to wear to this wedding & where is it?'

InThisTogether · 17/04/2015 09:30

sounds fab, do you need my address for the invite? ;)
enjoy your day op, it will be lovely.
