Wedding venues - Cardiff or the Vale of Glamorgan...

My dp proposed today! I am beside myself I'm so happy! Grin

We don't really want a long engagement as we've been together for quite a while already and feel it would be pointless.

I just wondered if any of you have married in Cardiff or the Vale and could talk to me about the venue you chose?

Thanks Smile

We used the Masonic hall because it was cheap as chips. Other places are the vale hotel, I think there's somewhere fled cnd lodge (?), the new house country hotel in thorn hill. Tredegar house in Newport.

We got married in the St David's Hotel in Cardiff Bay. It was AWESOME!

You get your own wedding planner and the bridal suite is thrown in (and their top suites are amazing!)

Food was great, service was fantastic. We have really lovely memories of our day.

I was totally against the idea of a classic cars at a country house, giant flowing frock princess-for-the-day wedding (I'm not at all knocking people going for that, but it just wasn't us).

St David's was modern and classy and everything we wanted. Was 6 years ago now so I don't know what may have changed, but we really loved our day.

That should be Canada lodge

canada lodge is stunning.

It really depends on budget. Some of the rooms in the city hall are lovely.

We got married in the Park Hotel on Queens Street which was fab. I've been to weddings at City Hall (though I've been to conferences there more recently where the food wasn't v good), and St Davids (lovely, but as a guest, I was disappointed by the bedrooms tbh).

If I got married now, I'd love to get married at St Fagans

I was at a wedding at celtic manor last year. That was lovely but not as good as canada lodge.

What about clearwell castle in the forest of dean. That would have been my choice but xp got married there first Angry

Canada Lodge is booked for every Saturday for the next year

Friday is doable for a wedding date isn't it?

We're getting married at Canada Lodge in 2014! Eeee. :D

You can get married on Saturdays in Canada Lodge in:

Oct 2013
Nov 2013
Dec 2013
Jan 2014
Feb 2014
Mar 2014
Oct 2014 onwards

You could also book Good Friday - 18 April 2014 - or Easter Monday - 21 April 2014. Probably wouldn't recommend either of these dates if you want a church wedding though!

Early May bank holiday 5 May 2014 and spring bank holiday 26 May 2014 are also free but unfortunately the Sundays beforehand are both taken. The same goes for summer bank holiday 25 August 2014.

Good luck and very many congratulations!

We also looked at Pencoed House Estate. It is gorgeous, incredibly popular, and a bit pricey! We thought it'd make a great place for a winter wedding.

Also on our list (although we didn't look at them) were:
Vale Hotel
St David's Hotel
De Courcey's
New Country House Hotel
Glyndwr Vineyard (I emailed back and forth with them - they were really nice but it just worked out a bit more expensive than we had budgeted with the marquee hire)
St Fagans
Fonmon Castle

Was veeeery tempted to get married at Nash Point Lighthouse but you are pretty restricted for numbers.

Have a look at cwtchthebride.com for inspiration and other suggestions!

Thanks again!

Probably looking at a week day wedding to keep costs down (romantic).

I spotted de Courceys the other day and like the look of it, though have yet to visit.

Will look at the all the recommended places. The only place I know for sure I don't want is St David's Hotel, it's beautiful but won't fit the kind of look I want (not a bridezilla honest!)

Did email Babinton House for a costs estimate. Relieved it and laughed. Not really within our budget, lovely though it is!

Someone I know got married in st David's hotel and ended up getting a huge refund because it was so bad. Might have changed since then though.

A close friend of mine got married at fonmon castle it was a brilliant day I was involved in a bit of the planning and found the people who own the venue really helpful which is important IMO

Our reception was at West House Country Hotel. It was fab! We had a barn dance! Grin It'd be a bit cosy for a large wedding but we had a marquee as well.

My friends had their reception at The Bear in Cowbridge. It was nice, ours was nicer! Wink
