A thread not for 'will it be stormy here' questions which can go in here but for specific travel updates.

To get the ball rolling:

Greater Anglia trains are allowing Monday ticket holders to travel tomorrow.

Nothing on there yet, but here's a link for First Buses in Hampshire. I doubt there'll be much warning on the site if they do stop services, usually hits twitter first, but there's no one manning their social media until 9am on Monday.

5madthings Sat 26-Oct-13 17:24:47

i have bookmarked the greater anglia page as on monday i am planning to go from.norwich to lowestoft and then on to kessingland. hoping the trains will be running ok but will the morning before we go to station.

wearingpurple Sat 26-Oct-13 17:26:57

Lots of info for people travelling in Dorset at the dorsetforyou website.

wearingpurple Sat 26-Oct-13 17:29:00

One specific item from that site - there will be no ferry crossings to the Channel Islands from Poole or Weymouth, but extra crossings on Tue/Wed for Sun/Mon ticket holders.

I just posted this on your original thread, Kitten smile

Due to fly into Manchester very late on Sunday night, from Spain. Forecast is calm but wet from midnight-3am, someone has suggested the wind may blow us home early - what chance of that, Kitten?

Sorry, didn't notice your Halloween name blush

How nice to be so immediately known though! grin

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 17:48:26

I'm still very much kitten! As soon as the first storm thread is full I'm name changing but dont want to confuse things part way!

I think the jet stream could be a help to you if aTC allow routing that way. Its in a nice position!

LadyCelia Sat 26-Oct-13 17:53:13

Anyone in the Isle of Man, it looks like the Manannan crossings to & from the mainland will be cancelled tomorrow, but the Ben is still scheduled to run. Mind you, I wouldn't fancy that 2am crossing on Sunday night/Monday morning!

i have a question

dh is traveling to the arse end of hampshire ( about a 150 mile round trip) on monday,

dya think he should?

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 18:28:32

What time custy?

MrsSalvoMontalbano Sat 26-Oct-13 18:34:39

* arse end of hampshire * grin

ThisIsBloodyHardWork Sat 26-Oct-13 18:53:29

Hi, I'm due to travel from Lincolnshire down to Bury in Suffolk on Monday - by car, with 2 small children. Is this madness? Would be leaving in the morning.

justaweeone Sat 26-Oct-13 18:55:44

We are driving from a Norfolk to SW Scotland on Monday
Are we mad?

GloriaSmud Sat 26-Oct-13 19:44:33

As part of the East Midlands posse (group), I'm adding Birmingham and East Midlands airports, not least because my brother is due to fly into EMA around 1am Monday morning.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 19:49:06

Tis a little on the mad side TIBHW.

Justaweeone - you are heading away from the storm. If you go set off first thing.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 19:50:22

heathrow are anticipating issues.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 19:52:54

Gatwick not so much!

Reastie Sat 26-Oct-13 20:39:30

<marks place>

MegBusset Sat 26-Oct-13 20:56:53

Just remembered, MIL is due to fly into Stansted from Spain on Monday! Could be interesting...

dododoing Sat 26-Oct-13 21:02:55

we're supposed to be travelling from Berkshire to Pembrokeshire on Monday - is that going to be okay, do you think? we can leave it until the afternoon.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 21:04:29

flight radar alci posted this on the other thread, so we can watch what it does to flights.

dodo. I would leave it to the afternoon and then you can see what sort of disruption has been caused.

I live in south London and plan not to go into work on Monday (central London) as don't want to get trapped when I can't get home due to trees on the line or something. Is that over cautious?

29chapel Sat 26-Oct-13 21:24:04

Hello OYWWW i'm sorry to ask you yet another question! We are supposedly travelling to Luton Airport (from Essex) at 5am monday morning for a 9am flight to Egypt - any ideas?

ItsOkayItsJustMyDeathFucker Sat 26-Oct-13 21:26:48

That site is amazing OYBBK! I am going to bookmark it as have a friend flying back from Rome on Monday or not. Thank you!

mumteedum Sat 26-Oct-13 21:41:08

OYWWW thanks for the threads. I've missed lots of info so was checking if was just media hype. Glad saw yr thread!

I'm due to drive durham to Worcestershire Monday, leaving 10am. Small child and on my own. Is this bad idea? Can do it tues but Dh thinks it's hype and I'm fine to do it.

GatoradeMeBitch Sat 26-Oct-13 21:45:21

I'm going to call my sons SEN college and say he won't be in on Monday. He gets a taxi, and it's out in the Oxfordshire countryside, loads of trees and quite isolated. I'd rather have him home and feel embarrassed that I over-reacted than be worrying myself sick all day.

harticus Sat 26-Oct-13 21:45:31

Oh no - planning to head to Norfolk by train on Monday.
They are bloody useless at the best of times!

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 23:08:23

I think it might be worth keeping an eye on the forecast thread especially in the morning. Latest gfs model run has done something very strange and practically cancelled the storm. It is one model out of many models and one set of model runs out of that. I think it might have gone a bit wrong, but it wrong but it might be one the first of the models to be right.

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sat 26-Oct-13 23:09:59

creature. If we discount the latest gfs (for the moment, it may be right) then tbh your greatest travel disruption would happen on the way in to London I think.

Ok thanks! I'm wary of stepping out as walk to station is down a tree lined road - some trees are very very big - plus an exposed bit past a cricket ground!

todaysdate Sun 27-Oct-13 06:42:29

We are moving house in Monday
The packers are coming today...

We are in London

Tbh I'm worried about the house we are moving to. It's been empty for 6 mo the and was a rental for 5 yrs and is pretty neglected.
I'm wondering which bits are going to blow away!

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sun 27-Oct-13 07:16:58

this is the forecast thread.

slickrick Sun 27-Oct-13 08:57:51

Im petrified of flying and my flight is due to take off at 9am on Monday. We have to leave at 6am when the storm is supposed to be at its worst. Im so scaredsad

OhYouWickedWickedWitch Sun 27-Oct-13 09:42:53

slick - always remember the airline pilot likes living too. Do check before you set off whether your flight is still happening though.

SaltySeaBird Sun 27-Oct-13 15:50:19

^Extremely high winds are expected during the early morning of Monday 28th October. As a result, Network Rail has declared that there is a high risk of trees and debris falling onto railway lines and as a consequence, it may be unsafe to run trains while the winds persist.

Therefore, Southern and Gatwick Express services will not run tomorrow morning until it has been declared safe to do so.^

Southern Rail have cancelled trains tomorrow morning hmm

I know it is all about safety but maybe they could have waited to see what happens before deciding to cancel things.

southern rail don't need bad weather to cancel trains, any weather of any kind will do it sad

East Coast trains cancelling some trains and all seat reservations tomorrow. If you have tickets for a specific train you can travel on the one before or the one after. 7.03 from Newcastle is one of those cancelled.

pigleychez Sun 27-Oct-13 16:58:19

Capital connect has cancellations too. DH is not looking forward to his journey in the morning. Plus if he doesn't go in, he doesn't get paid! sad

ihatethecold Sun 27-Oct-13 17:11:17

A5 in northamptonshire, near long buckby is closed due to a tree being blown over.
in both directions

Any one heard about the airports yet? I read that heathrow are suspending its night time ban so transatlantic flights can land early.

I read too that London overground are suspending service til 9am at the earliest but I can't find any proof.

There was a message saying London overground suspended on national rail website.

BillyBanter Sun 27-Oct-13 17:33:40

Trains going from London to the south coast will be quieter on a Monday morning than in the opposite direction won't they? I'm wondering if loads of people will be shunted onto my train from earlier cancelled ones.

If there is any service at all, that is.

susiegrapevine Sun 27-Oct-13 17:39:54

Great I normally drive to work but dh needs the car to run my dad's business just now wondering if I will actually be able to get to work grrr! Canceling the bloody trains before anything has happened ridiculous!

ihatethecold Sun 27-Oct-13 17:41:46

if you go on twitter OYBBK. there is lots of info about the overland london trains not running

jimijack Sun 27-Oct-13 17:46:25

Traveling with a caravan from the northwest to south Wales on Monday. Any ideas if wind will be there?

cloudskitchen Sun 27-Oct-13 17:58:51

Husbands 7am flight out of Heathrow already showing as cancelled.

jimijack - what sort of timings do you have?

jimijack Sun 27-Oct-13 18:16:32

We were going to head off late morning, lunch time.
Looks like south Wales is hit badly.

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker Sun 27-Oct-13 18:19:02

South west trains issuing timetable at 2100 tonight, but not running anything before 0800 tomorrow.

jimi, it should be through by the time you get closer to Wales. however obviously checking traffic and weather reports before you set off is a good idea.

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker Sun 27-Oct-13 18:42:07

OYBBK, should I give up my plans altogether for getting the train to London from Surrey tomorrow, do you think? I can work from home but it will piss a couple of people off potentially and I haven't been in the job that long...

BasicFish Sun 27-Oct-13 18:44:47

Greater Anglia, Stanstead Express and First Capital Connect in Cambridgeshire (at least) not running anything before 9am according to National Rail service disruptions.

Linky goodness here

Cross Country haven't announced anything yet, but given their usual shoddiness they've probably forgotten to run any trains to cancel.

BasicFish Sun 27-Oct-13 18:45:38

Doctrine. You might be able to get in in the afternoon - maybe. I guess it depends on how quickly they can clear up any downed trees.

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker Sun 27-Oct-13 18:49:25

Thanks OYBBK.

I'd rather they cancel the trains now instead of wasting people's time in the morning!

HelloBoys Sun 27-Oct-13 19:17:31

Southern not running trains until after 9am and then very disjointed service.

My colleague lives in Raynes Park works Wimbledon so can walk it in 20-30 minutes and gets bus usually.

I however get 2 trains from Gipsy Hill and change Clapham Junction.

Guess who is being the stroppy mare and telling me it won't be so bad?! Yes, colleague.

any more updates from people?

MadCap Sun 27-Oct-13 21:09:18

Old Severn Crossing now closed.

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker Sun 27-Oct-13 21:12:47

SWT amended timetable up, looks reasonable on my line but subject to alteration of course.

GloriaSmud Sun 27-Oct-13 21:17:02

Info from East Midlands trains here.

I've got News24 on and they're doing a lot on the weather and possible disruption.

thank you smile

dd has kidnapped the tv currently!

FannyMcNally Sun 27-Oct-13 21:26:52

Do people think that the main routes into London by car will be congested tomorrow morning because of the rail cancellations? DP travels into London by commuter coach and is debating whether to not bother if it's going to take 4+ hours.

GloriaSmud Sun 27-Oct-13 21:28:32

Nice webcam from the seafront at Dawlish (where the trains run along the seafront ~ see it is travel related!) here, (have to get past the annoying advert first) and it has sound, so can listen to the wind etc. The wind has got up in the last 1/2 hour but the trains are still running ~ just seen two pass each other.

fanny, I am a bit concerned about that. Maybe people will stay at home to stay safe.

thanks Gloria! grin

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker Mon 28-Oct-13 00:19:00

Good luck all and night night!

Kernowgal Mon 28-Oct-13 07:04:29

Morning all!

Highways agency info here

I'm waiting to hear from work as to whether we can go in. Normally start at 7.30 but their phone message hasn't been updated yet and they say it'll be updated before 9am for staff. So am confused about whether I should be attempting to travel in or not! Waste of bloody time if they've shut the garden (which is highly likely).

On my slow east coast train to London and they've just announced that the overhead power lines are down at kings cross and trains are at a standstill in the area.

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker Mon 28-Oct-13 08:18:25

So far all trains before 1000 on the SWT emergency timetable on my line have been canceled.

East coast advising not to travel not much good when you already on the bloody train My train now terminating at Peterborough due to the power line problems outside kings cross.

No trains expected to run on the east coast mainline south of Peterborough today.

TheDoctrineOfAnyFucker Mon 28-Oct-13 11:18:42

Have given up trying to load journey planner and am walking to station to see what is what.

I think the trains really really struggled with the number of downed trees on the line.

tribpot Mon 28-Oct-13 14:41:33

Trying to see if a friend can get down to London from Leeds today, can't see any way in by train (he can't drive down cos he has to fly out to somewhere else from there on Wednesday). I have to go down by train tomorrow morning, really not looking forward to that confused

ihatethecold Mon 28-Oct-13 15:01:47

East coast is terminating before London tribpot.
Have a look on twitter. There's lots of updates on there.

tribpot Mon 28-Oct-13 17:02:59

We've decided to drive most of the way down tonight. Hmm.

good luck!
