Just wondering if its on its way down to us in London.

<stomps feet> I want snow!!!

We had sleet this morning, and hail about 10 minutes ago, but nothing now sad

Im hoping the snow will come soon!

littlemisssunny Sat 12-Jan-13 16:06:11

Not yet envy we are apparantly getting it tomorrow night and Monday grin in Yorkshire

wibblyjelly Sat 12-Jan-13 16:06:48

Where are you Tequila, if you don't mind me asking? Just curious whereabouts the wintery weather is at the mo.

Sugarice Sat 12-Jan-13 16:07:50

We had it this morning briefly then it peetered out, it's dry now but bloody freezing!

HollyBollyBooBoo Sat 12-Jan-13 16:11:21

Nothing, nada, zilch.

Desperate for some to make it impossible to leave the house at about 7.30am on Monday!

We have had a bit in Kent but it only lasted about three minutes. I want to be snowed in, we can walk to the pub and I have waxed the sledge.

Meant to start tomorrow night around the SE area and Monday everywhere will have an inch. Should be gone by tuesday with such a tiny amount! wink

wibblyjelly Sat 12-Jan-13 16:17:25

We are supposed to get it Monday. Really hope we get some smile

valiumredhead Sat 12-Jan-13 16:18:02

Briefly this morning and now nothing - coming this way though sad

BallyGoBackwards Sat 12-Jan-13 16:22:58

It has been lashing rain all day down here on the south coast. Not even abit of sleet. See we made a big mistake last year by buying two things. At the start of summer a BBQ....making sure we had the wettest summer ever. Then we bought a sledge....making sure we had the wettest winter ever.

My family have jinxed the weather for all.

DoItToJulia Sat 12-Jan-13 16:29:22

Midlands here. Snow that didn't settle this morning, nothing right now, but it is getting colder. Much colder.....

Sorry, should have said where I was blush. I'm in Newcastle.

maizieD Sat 12-Jan-13 16:42:32

None in County Durham (apart from very high ground). Not particularly cold. It would be good to try out my very expensive winter tyresgrin

Bearface Sat 12-Jan-13 16:50:25

Nothing in Essex.

iseenodust Sat 12-Jan-13 16:53:05

We had literally two minutes worth as DH & DS were getting into the car to go to football about an hour ago. Nothing since in this part of Yorks.

ppeatfruit Sat 12-Jan-13 16:54:33

maizie We get winter tyres put on every year and you can use them fine at 9C and under (we sometimes use them at a higher temp. than that to no ill effect they are incredibly good in the rain and snow but apparently not so good on sheet ice!}. I heart them grin

BTW we're in mid west France and it has been forecast for Mon. and Tues.

tacal Sat 12-Jan-13 16:55:52

It has been quite nice here in Glasgow. No sign of snow.

NuclearStandoff Sat 12-Jan-13 16:56:02

A few fat flakes floated past the window just now.

In South/borderline SW.

and it looks as if it is snowing inside because ds is making cupcakes and there are clouds of icing sugar in the air ...

ppeatfruit Sat 12-Jan-13 16:57:43

Dh tells me its under 7C for the winter tyres sorry grin

RozziRaspberry Sat 12-Jan-13 17:13:16

Been snowing on and off all day here, it's stopped at the moment and I'm really hoping it doesn't start again as I have to go out at 9pm to pick up dd1.

DeathMetalMum Sat 12-Jan-13 17:15:06

We had some flakes this morning for 5 minutes or so. I only know as I was outside at the time. Otherwise wouldn't have noticed at all, North West here.

Normally I would love it to snow but as I'm 30w pregnant im not so keen as it might make me housebound.

JollyToddles Sat 12-Jan-13 17:16:26

We had about an hour of it this morning but it didn't lie except on the hills

JollyToddles Sat 12-Jan-13 17:16:46

We are nowhere near London though.

lolaflores Sat 12-Jan-13 17:23:31

Monday is the day being named on the telly weather. Who said it would be gone by Tuesday? The papers are promising siberian hell and chaso for 3 weeks?! Perhaps they are wrong? Ohhhhh

gindrinker Sat 12-Jan-13 17:28:42

Bah. No weather at all here. Overcast and cold.
I want a foot of snow!
East midlands

wibblyjelly Sat 12-Jan-13 17:29:04

Deathmetal, hope it stays away from your area!

Fully expecting some in Sheffield on Monday. Going to fetch the sledge out of the shed for the school run.

cantheyseeme Sat 12-Jan-13 17:32:15

I realllly reallly want it here ALL next week... snowed off work :p

edam Sat 12-Jan-13 17:33:02

We had hail this morning but nothing since. Just a gloomy, miserable day.

Nothing here in North Yorkshire yet although it's been freezing cold all day. Apparently we are getting it Sunday night/Monday morning which means DS2 will probably be off school so I'll have to work from home play out with him grin.

WinterWinds Sat 12-Jan-13 17:39:08

Nothing here yet, but forecast says it will start overnight Sundy/early hours Monday morning and carry on through till Tuesday here.

East Midlands

BalloonSlayer Sat 12-Jan-13 17:40:41

arf at "waxed the sledge."

Imagining hairy sledges.

Nothing here in the sarf east. Raining though. I am told perhaps Monday.

I don't know what it means either- something to do with metal runners I think.

Doingfine Sat 12-Jan-13 18:28:36

No snow in Edinburgh.

Blondeshavemorefun Sat 12-Jan-13 18:34:57

snow flurries earlier in garden of england aka kent grin

Abitwobblynow Sat 12-Jan-13 18:44:40

Chaps and chapesses: you have to say where you are hailing from, for your message to make sense!!

BOILING hot here (Africa). We dodged a thunderstorm, but are sweating gently in our T shirts smile.

Lilka Sat 12-Jan-13 18:45:28

Nothing in my part of the North East yet

Forecast says we'll get some before Tuesday though. Please not much!

thegreylady Sat 12-Jan-13 18:47:54

Bit of a flurry in NW Shropshire this morning

GentleOtter Sat 12-Jan-13 18:52:13

Nothing here in the Perthshire hills although it does feel much colder. Schiehallion and the mountains behind us have had snow for a while but nothing below the tree line. <hopes fate is not tempted>

Three weeks! shock

DeafLeopard Sat 12-Jan-13 18:58:38

Nothing on the north south divide - just near Watford Gap

Nowt here yet in South Derbyshire, but it's brass monkeys out there.

MJP1 Sat 12-Jan-13 19:32:46

Nothing in Calderdale, Hebden Bridge, dont want it to be honest am 36 weeks, on Maternity leave, Live on a steep hill and dont drive, all in all not feeling the love for snow.

digerd Sat 12-Jan-13 19:34:47

Had -1 this morning< min in night>, but no snow in SE. +3 at the moment.

FiveGoMadInDorset Sat 12-Jan-13 19:36:13

No, we had so much rain today that we couldn't get out of our house as we had floods front and back, we are at the top of the hill.

digerd Sat 12-Jan-13 19:41:09

Can't stand "Hot , Humid and Sweating" - you are welcome to it ABIT.

We had a tiny bit yesterday that is almost gone again. It was snowing as I drove home from work so I very excitedly drove past DCs preschool, parked the car at home, put on wellies and warm gloves and dragged the sledge with me to pick them up. They were delighted, but it was bloody hard work dragging it over a few flakes I can tell you. The noise was hideous and I dread to look at the underside of the sledge now as it is probably horribly scratched.
We're in West Sweden, just above Gothenburg. Freezing temps here for a few days though. Feels bitter!

Abitwobblynow Sat 12-Jan-13 19:47:25

Oh Digerd I miss UK so much!

Nothing, but nothing beats Christmas in england. Nothing. Christmas dinner (drool), the bronze free range organic turkeys hand reared by the Queen, bread sauce, you don't get bread sauce anywhere else, chipolatas - chipolatas!, carols from Cambridge (always sob at that unearthly treble), holly, ivy, spruce, being snug by the woodburner when it is chucking it down outside, a wreath on the door. The sounds and the smells of all of that. Brussels sprouts (sobbing now)

Aaaaah! NOTHING beats the UK in December!

DizzyHoneyBee Sat 12-Jan-13 19:50:41

I want either no snow or enough that work is closed....anything else is a pain in the neck.

wibblyjelly Sat 12-Jan-13 19:50:42

surrondedbyblondes, I used to live in Stockholm. We used to get epic amounts of snow, probably why I'm so eager to have some over here!

Tiggles Sat 12-Jan-13 19:53:01

Had about a centimetre in N. Wales this morning (up a mountain though, not sure about down in the valleys).

digerd Sat 12-Jan-13 19:59:52

Oh ABIT - I too had home-sickness while living abroad. I don't have a wood burner, though.

hpsaucy Sat 12-Jan-13 20:09:10

nothing here is Essex

I'm in kent and we have none sad

Im in Haworth, West Yorkshire. Nothing yet sad

IAmLouisWalsh Sat 12-Jan-13 20:52:18

TaffyandTeenyTaffy Sat 12-Jan-13 21:39:23

None in South Taffy-land grin..... yet!

LemonMousse Sat 12-Jan-13 21:42:05

A light dusting here in Co. Durham but it seems to have stopped now. We are fairly high up in the hills here so I can't speak for the rest of the NE of England - we always have a different weather system here grin

MirandaWest Sat 12-Jan-13 21:43:29

Nothing near York.

3littlerabbits Sat 12-Jan-13 22:01:01

Nowt in central london!

spokeswoman Sat 12-Jan-13 22:04:08

Nothing in Cumbria

Nothing in Essex!

Pretty sure we won't get any here in SE Cornwall. DH has to go up country on Monday for work and looking at the weather forecasts I expect he might be stuck there for a day or two... boo.

We have had to put the heating on this evening though. We don't usually bother except for a half hour blast in the morning and again at kids bathtime, but this evening it's chilly enough to have it on.

proudmummyGemma Sat 12-Jan-13 22:20:39

Nothing but rain in Havant in hampshire ! Xx

Lollybrolly Sat 12-Jan-13 22:23:59

Choccyjules Sun 13-Jan-13 00:15:46

No snow in Cambs

I'm in Leeds and its snowing less then a mile away up the road but not near me confused

Nothing in Herts

bugger all so far in gloucestershire. i want it to snow so much!!!!!!

Absolument rien! here in Surrey, except puddles, and nowt in London either, though it was v. v. cold this morn. Just out now tho and it's warmish, I wouldn't be shivering without my coat.

I would LOVE an all-uni snowball fight, so bring on the snow, but doubt we'll get much! Well, I don't know....but I do love sitting outside with coffee, a book and a cig, and can't do that if there's white frosty stuff inches thick everywhere.

Vagaceratops Sun 13-Jan-13 07:27:15

We have some in the east mids - a sprinkling but its still coming down very lightly.

mumof3teens Sun 13-Jan-13 07:32:24

Yep in Derbyshire smile

Possibly a dusting in Sheffield, will confirm when someone finds the sun.

Nothing here by Stansted airport

Willabywallaby Sun 13-Jan-13 07:51:50

We never get it in Poole except a couple of years ago and the year before that

GloriaSnow Sun 13-Jan-13 07:57:44

We have a very slight dusting here (Leicester). Think it's just an odd snow shower that's come our way ~ it's showing up over the East Midlands here at the moment.

wildirishrose Sun 13-Jan-13 08:11:39

Im so fed up with the media hyping everything up they cry wolf every time the weather changes, if there's a real weather situation no one will believe them.

There's a snow map? Cool!

I'm signed up but never entirely sure how to use twitter, might be the time to have a go.

It's a very patchy dusting of snow in Sheffield, the sort you'd still see people wearing flip flops out in.

PoppyAmex Sun 13-Jan-13 08:36:30

Woke up to a white blanket and it's still snowing; big fat flakes too! Yay!

Tried showing it to DD (9mo) who looked distinctly unimpressed and just looked at me expectantly wondering about her breakfast. grin

PoppyAmex Sun 13-Jan-13 08:37:07

Forgot to say, I'm in Central Scotland

Bertrude Sun 13-Jan-13 08:46:42

Nowt here, but not expecting any (Abu Dhabi) grin

acrabadabra Sun 13-Jan-13 08:49:53

West of Edinburgh. Just started an hour ago (that's when I opened the curtains!)

Getting quite heavy now.

Would be chuffed but I have to go to work. Worried I won't get home for bedtime.

waxlyrical Sun 13-Jan-13 08:50:59

Dusting in NW leics and still snowing.

Loads is falling here in Aberdeenshire smile

41notTrendy Sun 13-Jan-13 08:57:45

Had a light covering in Nottingham!

SueFawley Sun 13-Jan-13 09:12:12

grin Bertrude!

Nothing here in rural Cheshire. Yesterday was gorgeous, sunny but very cold and completely dry for the first day in about a month.
So far today is looking the same. There's a deep frost, the sun is shining, but its dry. Snow is predicted to start to fall this evening.

MissAnnersley Sun 13-Jan-13 09:14:03

Snowing here in Angus. Quite steady and from the look of the hills behind the house there's more on the way.

angry no snow here, North Yorkshire - I have sledges, snow shovels, snow boots & ready for action just need some blinking snow!

MissAnnersley Sun 13-Jan-13 09:16:48

DS is delighted because it means we probably wont go to church. smile

sarniesarah Sun 13-Jan-13 09:23:11

Cheltenham is as clear as a bell. But have been looking at webcam streams on Motorway to see where it is. Scotland only so far..

FoxPass Sun 13-Jan-13 09:23:49

snow just outside Edinburgh!

Still nothing here in North Yorkshire although it is very cold outside and DS2's rugby match has been called off as the pitch is frozen.

Really hoping we get some soon am feeling very envy of those in Scotland that have got snow.

It's just wet here in Glasgow but my family 10m away in East Kilbride have a light dusting. If it's there it'll be here today.

VictorAndBarry Sun 13-Jan-13 09:34:12

It's falling, but not lying, in central Scotland.

GentleOtter Sun 13-Jan-13 09:36:11

Lots of snow here this morning, Perthshire hills.

Doingfine Sun 13-Jan-13 09:39:52

Wee bitty in centre Edinburgh. Just icing sugar. :-)

Dawndonna Sun 13-Jan-13 09:44:15

North Suffolk, just started, very fine, granular type snow, trying to settle. It's dry so if we get more, it will.

Snowing on Fife. DS football cancelled so having a duvet day. I love snow grin

acceptableinthe80s Sun 13-Jan-13 09:56:18

Steady fall of massive snowflakes here in southern Scotland for the last couple of hours. Very pretty. Ds is high as a kite, been wanting to go sledging all winter so here's hoping it lies for a bit.

wildirishrose Sun 13-Jan-13 09:57:11

So only snow in Scotland so far.

It's lying fairly thickly here, about to nip out for milk before it gets worse shock

There's discussion about tomorrow's substantial potential here

SarahStratton Sun 13-Jan-13 10:17:02

Tiny sprinkling of snow here on the Lincolnshire Wolds. There was more in the middle of the night, but it seems to be going. sad

Piemistress Sun 13-Jan-13 10:17:06

Still nowt in NE Scotland

Icing sugar in North Cumbria/Borders. Am going outside to do the snowdance in a moment though, which should improve things.

LoosingBattle Sun 13-Jan-13 10:37:08

About 4" here. sad Hate snow.

We live between Edinburgh and Glasgow but in an isolated village very high up (over 1000ft above sea level). Always get hit hard but have to say it has been our best winter yet - until now!

I'm over in west Fife, it's been snowing here since 2am sad

InsertCleverNameChangeHere Sun 13-Jan-13 10:46:34

I'm just north of Belfast and I've seen a couple of flurries this morning, nothing lying though.

I'm up a mountain though, so not sure if lower levels are getting anything. I don't mind snow, even when it lies, but after about a week I get really fed up of it. I hate slush!

Weather freds are addictive grin

Nothing in Surrey, blue skies, had my window open all night and it's coldish but nice (window's next to the bed).

babyboomersrock Sun 13-Jan-13 11:11:36

Also in west Fife - snow lying here, and still falling. I hope it stops soon.

digerd Sun 13-Jan-13 11:14:23

Thames Valley north.
No snow - dry but nasty cold air that made my face skin sting. Otherwise warm in padded jacket and fur hat walking the dog at 10,30am.
+1 minimum in the night here.

digerd Sun 13-Jan-13 11:16:17

Only risen to 3c at the moment - no sun

GoingGoingGoth Sun 13-Jan-13 11:34:53

Glasgow, nothing here yet, very disappointed Dd.

But I think I'm a Jonah re snow, didn't used to get much when we lived down the road from Stratters and she'd have loads!

DollySisterMadeNoResolutions Sun 13-Jan-13 11:42:38

Nothing here in the North East. This is because we now own a snow shovel and two sledges.

Schooldidi Sun 13-Jan-13 11:46:29

North Cumbria here and it's trying. There is snow falling but the ground seems too wet for it to lay properly. It's just about got to the icing sugar stage.

It needs to get much heavier so the schools end up shutting. I'd love a snow day tomorrow.

NoillyPrat Sun 13-Jan-13 11:49:45

No snow where I am in Staffordshire yet. Woke up to frost, it's still freezing but sunny with blue skies.

madasa Sun 13-Jan-13 12:05:36

Just started in Kent.....bit of a pathetic attempt ...but it's still snow

LemonMousse Sun 13-Jan-13 12:27:01

Still just the light dusting we had last night here in Co. Durham.

My friend's DH is a keen weather watcher (he has equipment and everything and he understands all the METO charts) and he reckons late afternoon here for the 'proper' snow to start. I have to say he's usually spot on with his forecasts - I trust his opinion more than the BBC smile

KitCat26 Sun 13-Jan-13 12:32:12

We've had a few polystyrene like flakes in Suffolk. Apparently its all happening on Monday.

ASmidgeofMidge Sun 13-Jan-13 12:36:32

Sprinkling here in Nottingham, but the sun's out now and has melted it all!

MalkieFraser Sun 13-Jan-13 12:43:40

Central Scotland, light snow off and on, nothing exciting yet. I only moved here for the snowwink

lazarusb Sun 13-Jan-13 12:58:40

Those of you lovely people in Kent...please keep posting. I need to get to Canterbury by train tomorrow (from E Sussex). You are far more reliable than the forecasters on tv!

Still nothing in London sad

FreePeaceSweet Sun 13-Jan-13 13:18:20

Snowing in Blackpool.

Don't worry Wibbly, I'm only eighty miles north of you and we had a few flakes today. It's on its way! smile

Sleepysand Sun 13-Jan-13 13:29:10

South West of England... no chance of snow here, worse luck. More floods look very probable though!

wibbly, would you consider asking mn to move this into the mn weather section please? A lot of people dont know we have a special section for all things weather.

determinedma Sun 13-Jan-13 13:45:26

quite a lot here in Central Scotland - coming down steadily

wibblyjelly Sun 13-Jan-13 14:06:08

Sure Kitten, I didn't know there was a weather section either!

wibblyjelly Sun 13-Jan-13 14:06:58

How do I ask to get it moved? I don't have a report thread option?

you are a star thank you smile I'll report it if you like smile

the weather section often has warnings and discussions of imminently exciting weather, so its worth popping over if there might be something afoot.

wibblyjelly Sun 13-Jan-13 14:12:46

Thanks, I reported one of my posts, and asked there, but not sure I'd that's right. Might be worth you doing it as well smile

ReeBee Sun 13-Jan-13 14:14:29

Been snowing since about 10am here in north Cumbria but not really lying (although it is at my mum's, a mile up the hill).
It does need to be heavier to stick properly. I have everything crossed - love snow!

A bit of light cloud building here on Hampshire coast, after a gloriously calm, sunny morning and early afternoon.

No sign of any inclemency - but I think we are due some rain tomorrow. People are wearing woolly hats etc., but I have yet to venture beyond the bedroom door outside. blush

Ooooh - students on unicycles!

Nothing here in West Yorks. I'm hoping for loads because I love the silence it creates.

Ours has just started - very light fall.

Snow is great so long as you don't have to go anywhere. Snow on the school run is shit.

Oops, sorry. Cheshire Gap.

Nothing in um... Southsea! smile. Getting jolly chilly though. Come on snow! Come our way!

canutesauntie Sun 13-Jan-13 21:01:14

light snow here, getting heavier, Hereford / Glos borders.

Sleepysand Sun 13-Jan-13 21:06:35

Blimey. It is snowing here in east Devon.

lazarusb Sun 13-Jan-13 21:07:52

Happy for snow not to arrive in E Sussex/Kent until tomorrow evening! I do not wanted to stranded at Ashford tomorrow!

mama2moo Sun 13-Jan-13 21:09:18

Its snowing in South Somerset - Light but constant. We never get snow and arent supposed to get any now.

Sleepysand Sun 13-Jan-13 21:10:51

I'm about 5 miles south from the Somerset border mama and I didn't think we'd get any!

Me! Finally!

Getting heavier and sticking now in North Staffs.

mama2moo Sun 13-Jan-13 21:14:37

I know sleepysand the snow flakes on us have been changed to rain now for tonight and tomorrow. I also thought it was reported as moving south over the next few days. Odd. Its still snowing now.

We still have a lot of flooding around here. Melted snow is going to make that worse.

Sleepysand Sun 13-Jan-13 21:21:54

mama, we were cut off on what amounts to an island just before Christmas. Crazy weather, and still roads closed round here - not least because there were landslides. My forecast says rain but my eyes say snow!

mama2moo Sun 13-Jan-13 21:24:25

Wow, that must have been awful. The water levels are still very high here. The somerset levels that we drive near are still looking like rivers instead of fields.

Yep, still snowing here. Im such a child, I know I will be wide awake at 3am to check if it has settled!!!

reastie Sun 13-Jan-13 21:25:08

Nothing here. I'm in Kent and hoping for barely anything or enough to close the school where I work to get a day off blush

edam Sun 13-Jan-13 21:31:08

Ooh Tidy, that's interesting (am also on Herts/Beds border). Bring on the snow! (Except I'll have to try to get into work and First Capital Connect are Not Great in bad weather...)

Sleepysand Sun 13-Jan-13 21:35:48

Mama, the floods on the levels were awful. reastie - a day off would be my wildest dream!!!!! Best days ever!

hellymelly Sun 13-Jan-13 21:39:18

We are on the edge of the Preseli mountains, West Wales, there were flakes coming down as we drove home from Carmarthen earlier, but nothing here now.Would be lovely to wake up to white mountains.

tigerdriverII Sun 13-Jan-13 21:44:56

Nothing in N Oxon yet. If we get it we're usually snowed in. I have done loads of batch cooking and getting wine provisions so I really do want my preparations to pay off!

Just starting here in South Yorkshire.

MirandaWest Sun 13-Jan-13 22:12:28

There seems to be something white falling out of the sky near York...

LeChatRouge Sun 13-Jan-13 22:21:18

Very odd. I am not far from mama and we have......nothing.

When I was about 12, the levels flooded badly, then we had a freezing snap and the floods froze solid. We went ice skating, you could literally skate for miles across fields, it was epic. The frozen water was about 6 inches deep, so not dangerous, just extreme fun. I would love that to happen again.

<prays to wake up to a white garden and a snow day>

openerofjars Sun 13-Jan-13 22:27:27

I'm watching snowflakes fall onto my attic skylight here in
Sheffield! grin

HellesBelles396 Sun 13-Jan-13 23:29:41

I was at WinterCamp at Hawkhirst with the scouts and it snowed most of today but didn't lie. Thankfully! wouldn't have wanted to be snowed in with 800 pre-teens and teens!

HellesBelles396 Sun 13-Jan-13 23:31:22

oh - that's south west Northumberland btw.

GetKnitted Sun 13-Jan-13 23:32:45

birdofthenorth Sun 13-Jan-13 23:43:06

Nr Guildford in Surrey and nothing! Expect to wake up to nothing tomorrow sad

JillJ72 Mon 14-Jan-13 06:08:21

Thin dusting in north Bucks. More expected....?

Brideandgloom Mon 14-Jan-13 06:11:57

Have woken up to about a cm in North Essex and its still snowing.

Am worried about sending dd in to school. We have to leave before they decide if it shuts or not and its a rural school with heavy snow forecast today. Our buses usually stop running if its heavy snow.....

Alonglongway Mon 14-Jan-13 06:29:42

Steady snow in SE London at the moment

Twinklestarstwinklestars Mon 14-Jan-13 06:31:21

We've had quite a bit overnight its not stuck on our road but fields Are covered and must be 2-3cm on car, dreading what it'll be like out of our road if the floods have frozen as loads of roads were covered in water last week.

Twinklestarstwinklestars Mon 14-Jan-13 06:31:44

In east yorks by the way

smilingthroughgrittedteeth Mon 14-Jan-13 06:45:32

Just started in kent (medway) light at the moment but am about to scrape very thick ice off the car so I can leave for work sad

Snowing nr Guildford, very light flurry is all, traffic going by fine.

DD gets collected by bus in a little bit so will wait and see if it turns up because her school is a half hour drive away...

digerd Mon 14-Jan-13 07:35:15

Weather forecast correct - snow on the ground overnight - temp 0.
Thames Valley north.

whateveritakes Mon 14-Jan-13 07:40:04

SNOW!!!! A light covering. Perfect no disruption, not too cold and sooo pretty....

We're on the East Coast and are expecting snow any time from 2pm today. The sky looks very odd at the moment though, so perhaps it will be sooner.

SNOW!1!! grin here too near Windsor. Dainty flakeage, dusting on the ground and roofs.
slept with my window open. FREEZING. it's so bloody hard to close though

MarshaBrady Mon 14-Jan-13 07:58:17

Yep SE London

wibblyjelly Mon 14-Jan-13 08:03:48

Have woken up to a very light dusting in East London smile

reastie Mon 14-Jan-13 08:04:21

Light dusting here in Kent. Apparently it's enough to warrant DD insisting on watching 'the snowman' DVD for the umpteenth time though hmm

nannynick Mon 14-Jan-13 08:08:40

Looked out of the window and there is some on roof and car tops, Lightwater Surrey. -1 outside.

lazarusb Mon 14-Jan-13 08:08:52

Dusting but still snowing lightly on SE coast.

bruffin Mon 14-Jan-13 08:13:10

Cheshunt and Harlow (Herts and Essex) both have snow, but as usually Harlow is a lot colder than Cheshunt.

Blondeshavemorefun Mon 14-Jan-13 08:19:38

Was snowing in kent at 3am when was feeding my babes - more snow at work then have at home - thank god !!!

Blondes hates the snow !!!!

Couple of centimetres here N London/Herts border

digerd Mon 14-Jan-13 08:43:29

I'm <was> brunette and I dislike the snow too. Looks nice though.
Always thought natural blondes originated in Sweden??!! Read that blonde hair and blue eyes are a rarity now.
Supposed to be dry and sunny Wednesday in SE. Yeah

Piemistress Mon 14-Jan-13 08:59:09

Lots now and settling very quickly in NE Scotland

we've got snow now and apparently more to come grin

I'm in mid-kent BTW

cowmop Mon 14-Jan-13 09:31:01

We're in Staffordshire (1000mts above sea level). It's coming down hard and there's already a good inch covering pavements and couple of inches in drifts etc. Just got back from walking the kids to school and am wondering if I've got time for a brew before they ring to say they are closing!

Peetle Mon 14-Jan-13 09:34:50

Up to half an inch in places in North London this morning. The DTs came home from school on Friday saying they were going on Monday even if there was snow - presumably they'd been given an edict at school that it would be open regardless.

Supposed to be very cold all week and then another dump of snow on Friday night. Bring it on.

Had about half an inch overnight in Sheffield though it's started back up ever so gently again this morning.

It was already starting to be a bit slippery underfoot on the walk to school, if that gets down to -6 overnight it'll be like an ice rink.

Madmog Mon 14-Jan-13 09:47:02

We had a light dusting late last night in Gloucestershire. It's raining now.

After two bad winters in 2009/10 and 2010/11, invested in snow boots, a sledge and snow disk for last winter and we haven't used them each so a day or two of snow would go down well. Then we'd like some sunny dry weather here please.

Cowmop, do your kids go to a small school? If my daughter's old school was open in the morning, it would stay open all day whatever. However, they would put a blackboard up sometimes saying parents were welcome to collect kids. Might you there were 450+ children there so too many to phone around. I guess it's the same at her new one as there are 1600+. Whatever you obviously can't relax if you are expecting a phone call.

Am in west Essex, it is white but not much. It was snowing as the kids left for school and they were worried they would be "snowed out" (thank you Michael McIntyre).

DoItToJulia Mon 14-Jan-13 10:05:18

Light dusting of dandruff over night, but now snowing heavily here in Brum....

naffedoff Mon 14-Jan-13 10:10:30

In Leeds. Bit of snow overnight but roads ok this morning. It started snowing again about 9.30 and is gathering momentum...

OldBeanbagz Mon 14-Jan-13 10:13:32

There was a sprinkling when i got up this morning. Started falling again at 9.30am this morning and has been falling steadily since.

Am wondering how long it will be before school closes!

SurroundedByBlue Mon 14-Jan-13 10:39:28

Snowing here (west mids) looks too wet out to settle though. Am 38 weeks pregnant so hoping it goes away quickly!

TeWiSavesTheDay Mon 14-Jan-13 10:46:41

We have snow on the ground and snow in the sky. Only an inch or so, fingers crossed for more settling!

We are very central England.

In Leeds and snows falling but not laying

quoteunquote Mon 14-Jan-13 11:10:26

None here in south devon.

Catriona100 Mon 14-Jan-13 11:34:06

Its snowing right now here in Surrey but its not lying.

SamraLee Mon 14-Jan-13 11:35:38

Snow is falling and settling in Oldham. The ground is white, but you can still make out the grass.

GloriaSnow Mon 14-Jan-13 11:53:24

Using DDs Hello Kitty ruler my highly technical measuring device, we've had just over 1cm of snow and it's still falling steadily. My weather station on the other hand, thinks that it's raining and that we've had 0.0mm in the last 24 hours! confused

Sunny and warm on the coast in SE Cornwall. We had a rain shower earlier and now the sun's out. There are grey looking clouds on the horizon but I expect they will miss us and dump snow or rain inland. Would be nice to have snow, but just for a day. I can't be doing with all that digging the car out and slipping about on ice nonsense.

Twinklestarstwinklestars Mon 14-Jan-13 12:04:43

Just started in east yorks, we already had a bit so should settle.

wibblyjelly Mon 14-Jan-13 12:09:00

Just started snowing again in East London

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee Mon 14-Jan-13 12:27:11

We (in SE, near Camberley) had a dusting last night, enough to stay on trees but not roads. Pretty early this morning, but almost gone now.

BombayBadonkadonks Mon 14-Jan-13 13:18:19

Falling steadily in East Yorks settling on the roads too.

starts panic buying tinned pears and kitty litter

wol1968 Mon 14-Jan-13 13:21:45

Nothing but rain here in Southampton. Boooooooo... envy to all you with the white stuff falling (as opposed to the shite stuff which was what I nearly typed grin)

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee Mon 14-Jan-13 13:34:23

We currently have 'slush' (I'm sure OYBBK would have a much more accurate description of it grin) it's 'thick' rain, very 'icy' but so wet when it lands. Icy rain - I do know what it's called...hmmm.... nope, total brain fade.

chipping its either sleet or splodgy stuff. HTH grin

edam Mon 14-Jan-13 13:55:00

It was lovely this morning in Herts, just an inch or so of gorgeous fresh untrodden in show. Was snowing a couple of hours ago in west London where I work, but turned to rain now.

snowed last night here in leicestershire and started again at 9am and still coming down was going out for carrots for casserole looks like its casserole with no carrots unless snow stops and can be arsed to drag buggy through it with toddler in as can bear to use the car as will have to clean it off and then slide to the shop and not that urgent!!

so glad am no night nannying at the moment especially as seem to get jobs in villages down small lanes - remember the time I got stuck on a sheet of ice and had to go back in and the mum moved my car for me and left it at the top of a very steep hill while I stayed inside with children she left car running and I slid my way walking up to it (was a very very long lane/hill and only 2 houses down there other people used it as a cut through and I got stuck as reversed for some silly arse who decided to use as cut through) I felt such a wally she didnt mind though and just laughed at me!!

iseenodust Mon 14-Jan-13 14:04:48

The dog has done his taste test and it's definitely proper settling snow. Problem is it makes him wee for Britain so really need to leave the backdoor open for him to get out quickly but then he takes that as an invitation to eat more. hmm

iseenodust Mon 14-Jan-13 14:05:29

School closures have started in E Yorks.

valiumredhead Mon 14-Jan-13 14:09:00

Ds is on his way home - school is closed!

Can't believe there is snow causing school closures in parts of the country! I'm sitting in the sun in the conservatory. I am honest. see

lazarusb Mon 14-Jan-13 14:24:53

Ok, so got to Kent and back with no disruptions on the train (miraculous!). Now raining in E Sussex so all pretty stuff has gone and everything is grey again sad

In Wakefield, West Yorkshire, been snowing like mad all day but stopped and we have blue sky and sunshine now! Everything melting and dripping.

BuckyMummy Mon 14-Jan-13 15:13:38

Plenty in London, nothing settling though!

TeWiSavesTheDay Mon 14-Jan-13 15:27:46

Am hour or 2 ago we had about 2" I'd say, melting a bit now, sun out. More white stuff scheduled later so just hoping it won't all melt before then! grin

tacal Mon 14-Jan-13 15:32:34

lovely and sunny here in Glasgow. DS would love it to snow here.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman Mon 14-Jan-13 15:38:09

Snow here (Cambridgeshire Fens) and settling, the main road through our village is like a skidpan.

cluttercluttereverywhere Mon 14-Jan-13 16:13:40

Currently on a train from edinburgh to London - nothing in edinburgh, bit of sleet near Newcastle, nothing at all now (nr York) but there is lots on the ground & it all looks very pretty.
Does anyone know what it's like now in London, am hoping that the tubes & buses won't all suddenly stop running again due to a flake or two!!

Catriona100 Mon 14-Jan-13 16:31:13

clutter - i suspect it has all melted now in London. I live just outside the M25 and it had all melted by about 11am.

Have a look at the "live travel news" section on tfl's (transport for London) website. It says all is ok. www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/realtime/tube/default.html

PseudoBadger Mon 14-Jan-13 16:34:25

Plenty here in Barnet (north London)!

wibblyjelly Mon 14-Jan-13 16:41:39

Clutter, I'm in east London, and its all melted. I think central is OK as well.

cluttercluttereverywhere Mon 14-Jan-13 16:53:53

Good, good - thanks all. I wasn't looking forward to walking home from Kings Cross with suitcase and baby and baby gear!!

We had some sort of sleety nonsense in the aft, then heavyish snow and now everything's stopped and melted sad

Twinklestarstwinklestars Mon 14-Jan-13 17:07:22

We have about 3-4 inches, it's just about stopped now. Schools shut early and roads were awful, hoping they shut tomorrow too as dreading getting there if not!

iseenodust Mon 14-Jan-13 17:17:13

It's pitch dark but DS is still out there making huge snowman.

Snow now falling steadily in East Suffolk.........Bumbledog not very impressed with it...........hmm

zingally Mon 14-Jan-13 19:00:27

Woke up to about a cm in Northamptonshire. Then it snowed fairly steadily from about 10am - 3pm. Ended up with about an inch altogether. It's clear skies out there now though, so it'll be an ice-rink out there tomorrow. Be careful everyone.

BlingBubbles Mon 14-Jan-13 20:02:07

We had a mixture if snow and sleet off and on all day at work in west London, at home now in Surrey and there is nothing, apparently there wasn't any all day, except for the bit we woke up too hmm I want more snow

wibblyjelly Mon 14-Jan-13 20:40:17

I know Bling, I feel cheated!

Clutter, did you make it home OK?

letseatgrandma Tue 15-Jan-13 08:21:09

What an over-hype about nothing! It wasn't even very frosty this morning!!

We woke up to quite a bit this morning (North East), it was still snowing heavy until about half an hour ago too.

lazarusb Tue 15-Jan-13 09:51:46

Nothing outside my front door, but 200m up the road there is 2cm of the stuff!
Dh is promising some for the weekend!

Snowing again in Sheffield, on top of the skating rink pavements. It's bloody cold out there now!

Snowing madly here again now!!!!!

Cold, clear and sunny here on Hampshire coast. Not a single sight of any of the white stuff so far. envy

Loads now on the Swedish West coast!!

digerd Wed 16-Jan-13 13:23:44

Snowed yesterday afternoon, but was wet snow. Today we have sunshine and only snow on the grass in the shade remains. But feels much colder than the temperature. -2 minimum last night+1 now, despite the sun??

Blondes what minus temperature do you have there, in Sweden atm ?

digerd Thu 17-Jan-13 11:27:57

We had -5c last night, but farther north in the countryside it was -14.

Yesterday, in the sun, the snow turned to ice, but today, in the sun again< hurrah> snow almost gone and air is lovely and fresh.

We're on the east coast and it is very cold. It has started snowing here again. Tomorrow is meant to be bad in Suffolk and Norfolk.

Please check out warnings as theyve gone to red in a small area and amber for a large area now. Will put thoughts about that in a couple of hours on this thread

Babycarmen Thu 17-Jan-13 13:11:25

Nothing in north east Scotland yet! Just frosty and flipping COLD! smile Hopefully we will get some tonight.

Piemistress Thu 17-Jan-13 17:22:18

I'm in NE Scotland too :-) had sleety rain earlier but just damp, cold and windy now on the coast

That ominous blob on the weather warning map is over our area.

wibblyjelly Thu 17-Jan-13 18:55:17

I'm supposed to be seeing a friend in Southend tomorrow, but not sure if I'm going to risk the hour long journey with a 4 month old!

ShowOfHands Thu 17-Jan-13 19:04:33

I'm in Norfolk. We've had bad snow and ice all week. Schools all closed yesterday, dd was back in today but it was treacherous. They're going to try and open tomorrow but finish at midday regardless.

We're forecast another 10 inches in the next couple of days. We're averaging about -3 degrees, some days it's been -13.

digerd Thu 17-Jan-13 20:37:09

Snow all ice and still there where sun didn't shine on it - mostly on the grass. My little dog will not walk on the icy grass as hurts her little paws. She loved the soft snow.

Just looked out of the window and it has snowed again overnight. We have around 2-3 inches.

GerardWay Fri 18-Jan-13 07:23:17

Snow in Bournemouth yayyyy.

digerd Fri 18-Jan-13 07:27:45

No snow overnight here South Herts. Only minus 1 last night. Ice still lingering on the grass. Want the ice to thaw and then have new soft snow for my little dog.

Fianccetto Fri 18-Jan-13 07:38:42

Gloucester has snow and school closures. We had no snow here overnight, DH got up and showered, looked out of window again at 6am and it was steadily snowing. Not a lot settlies, but more snow expected today and tomorrow. Am going to go and sweep the drive and put salt down in preparation.

Please be careful on the roads. Some woman lost control of her car in ice last year and crashed into DH's. No sooner was that fixed, another driver crashed into DH at a junction and wrote his car off. Nobody hurt, thankfully. We still haven't recovered financially though.

digerd Fri 18-Jan-13 08:40:38

Councils should be gritting the main roads. Saw it being done in Milton Keynes, in the dark as a precaution for the night.
There is no let up on the M25 in the traffic at anytime, so must be a problem for the huge gritting vehicles to do their job.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman Fri 18-Jan-13 17:12:57

Barely anything here just outside Ely (Cambridgeshire), quite disappointed really.

lazarusb Fri 18-Jan-13 17:19:11

Snow on South East coast since lunchtime. Not particularly heavy, most roads & pavements clear, but still enough for dd's school to close at 1.30pm.

PestoFrostissimos Fri 18-Jan-13 17:25:07

Still snowing here, high on the Downs near Brighton. The DDs' school closed at 10.30am & they were sent home. DD1 particularly pleased to relax sledging with friends after her exam first thing this morning. The poor ponies looked less amused when we went up to check on them and give them a feed. The snow was building up on their rugs, they looked like little snow ponies! smile

Twinklestarstwinklestars Fri 18-Jan-13 20:01:38

Been heavy here in east yorks for a few hours, snow from Monday still hasn't melted so fairly deep, must be a few inches now.

digerd Sat 19-Jan-13 06:55:48

Yesterday, my 2 hour dance class was cut to 1 hour, despite having very little snow. It became heavier yesterday afternoon.
No more snow in the night. Only 0 last night min temp.
Just waiting for my newspaper to be delivered, usually round 7am to engage in my ritual of doing 2 crosswords.
South Herts/ north London/ Essex borders.

wibblyjelly Sun 20-Jan-13 14:13:56
