Keep seeing stuff in the papers and saw a cold weather warning on met office www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/coldweatheralert/.
Is it true? Where? When? How?
<panic buys>
<not really>
Hmmmm might do a bit of a shop tomorrow!
The met office think its is likely to be a colder than average winter, but whether it will be a snowy one is anyone's guess. At the moment GFS is showing some good snow potential for next Thursday and Friday, for first the north then maybe further south. However, that is a long way in forecasting land and its only one model.
Btw, early next week looks verrrrry cold.
UnderArmour under the schooliform then!
Cripes, better get that coal order in!
Im soooo feed up of waiting for a snow day
Last year i got the kids snow gear in September but we had no snow untill March.
This year i waited til first December and still no snow.
I think its all a fairy tale and we will be living on pasta, rice and beans for the next four months for no reason!
Anyone know a snow dance?
And dont even get me started on snowboots
should snow now i have ranted
Thursday looks possibly interesting if GFS is correct. However any snow would at the moment be a temporary affair as it looks like it will now warm up after.
I just dont think it will be as bad as 09/10 to be fair and i miss all the snow.
I want snow <stamps feet>
We were teased last week by a dusting and I keep obsessively checking the snow radar and charts but its not looking hopeful
I liked 09/10 - think the dcs made it into school for a total of 4 1/2 days that Jan
I liked it too I had my first child in Feb 09 and it was snowing and that xmas we went to Loch Earn and its was sooo scaery getting up there its was a real adventure and it was so fun.
My dh was driving and he did a fab job but he freaked out that we would not make it home for months and we came back early.
I miss snowball fights and then a hotshower and hot choc with cream and marshmellows.
I miss how excited it makes my children
And I am actually organised this year - plenty of food stores in, snow suits for the dcs and me snow boots, sledges etc etc and loads of hot chocolate. Just need to get my mother off the plane from Belfast on the 18th and then it can dump as much snow as it likes!
Its due to be a full moon round about Christmas as well and I really fancy walking to Midnight Mass across snowy moonlit fields hipflask in hand
^ that means it won't snow doesn't it?
We have had snow lying for a week. It's warm tonight though so hopefully will clear most of it.
well, the warm up has been postponed in this round of models until the weekend! (apart for perhaps the SW) Met office are now showing peak temps of -2C in parts of central England on wednesday. Maybe some snow showers down the eastern coast on tuesday and some flurries about through the week. Maybe more generalised snow on Friday, but dont pay too much attention to timings at the moment as the models push the breakdown back.
So, what is all this 'Beast from the East' prediction on Sky news all about then. East anglia could be 'obliterated' so they say!
I have no idea which models they are looking at! Yes, this week it is going to get very cold and yes, EA may get some snow showers coming in off the coast but all of the models currently show a breakdown in the cold occurring, with the main question being when?
OhYouMerry is there a chance of snow in the South East (near the coast) Met Office says not on the 5 day forecast but weather warning says maybe
I need to get across the pennines on the 20th. Is this realistic? Then DH needs to catch the train across on the 22nd.
I will cry if I am away from my parents, sisters and nana for Christmas :-(
Kitten is there supposed to be some kind of meteor shower this week 13th maybe? I'm sure I read that on one of your threads in the summer?
The Geminids will be on the 14th/15th
Look towards orion and then up and left past the left 'shoulder' of Orion at around 11pm onwards. Very sadly its when the weather is due to come in.
Fancypuffin, yes there is.
Britta, I'm really sorry, but I cant give you any idea that far ahead as it depends on what happens after this breakdown happens, if it happens.
OYMLK are you excited about this week's weather? I don't get excited until you do!
Hope you are feeling better
Thanks kitten
I'm pricking my ears up over Fridays potential
though if it comes off it will be shortlived.
Lots of pain today. hey ho.
fancypuffin, you are very welcome
Oh no sorry Kitten. Here is some
and
awww, thank you
Please no snow. None for worcestershire til the schools have broken up. Thanks....
OYMLK, sorry today is a bad day.
Hot Chocolate is called for I think.
Grey, damp and murky here. DS2 had a football match at 8.30 this morning - I am thankful it wasn't freezing - he is in goal so gets pretty cold. Then cries.
All three little Mankies are desperate for the white stuff.
I hope it snows! I live in NW and we NEVER get good snow! Too close to the coast! It's poo! We keep getting snow warnings and then no snow!
I have a wedding on Saturday up in north Yorkshire.
Am holding off deciding what to wear until the middle of the week. What can you predict weater wise? Am hoping for cold and bright. Rain would be unfortunate and snow could be a disaster.

Oooh another goalie Mum manky. I have two of them.
OYMLK hope you are feeling better soon.
Sparklingbrook DS 1 is right back and sub goalie for his under 11 team, DS2 is one of two main goalies for the two under 7's.
The last time it was cold he stood in goal and cried.
Today he went out to the game with so many layers on he looked like the Mitchelin Man!
The sun has just made an appearance here.
We had some lovely predictions for snow last Thursday. I had it all planned, snow day for the kids, sledging, hot chocolate, smores, Christmas films etc, etc,
What happened, rain!!! Rain and then more rain.
We want snow!
manky being a goalie Mum is stressful. I always have to take the hand warmers. I can barely watch the game as if the ball goes anywhere near them i can't look.
We have sunshine too now but the sky looks a strange grey colour.
I agree it's awful. Especially when you have a DS who gets distracted while in goal.
It's gone grey here again, in time for DH and DS1 to head off to watch football. I've just had to reset the hand warmers from this morning for them to take this afternoon!
Thanks Kitten
Joining this thread - I normally just take the weather as it comes, but we are supposed to be doing a 5 hour drive to Yorkshire on the 21st, and back on the 23rd. I really hope it's either completely clear and dry, so we can go, or thick snow, so we cancel.
The worst position is that it is a bit iffy, so we go, then get stuck. Or, we cancel, and MIL goes bonkers!
I am due to fly from Dublin to Gatwick on Wednesday night. I will have run out of clean pants by then so fingers crossed runways on both sides of the Irish Sea will be clear
Mind you, I love snow so much that I'd probably just turn my pants inside out and get on with the snowballs and snowmen and constant sky news updates on Arctic Britain
Breakdown is back on for Friday with snow looking most likely for northern half of England and Scotland.
Possible snow showers for eastern England perhaps down into Kent, for the first half of the week.
kitten Oh I love the GFS model! I haven't seen that before
I have found myself getting more and more interested in weather changes <getting old> DH is sick of the updates on temp and possibilities of snow/rain etc
