issued by the metoffice for heavy rain.
The storm that gave the U.S its snow looks like it's going to give us rain and in the places that could do without it.

This is just shit. They've really had it bad enough. Prevention is better than cure David Cameron has to do something, the local councils have to be ready. I'm in the south x

Not more! This so-called winter has been awful :(

It is bad enough in the south west - my garden is like a bog. Not much warning for Cumbria etc?

Perihelion · 25/01/2016 18:25

Think it's going to be a bit windy too. But maybe not strong enough for a warning. Am totally flummoxed by this winter. Yesterday was 15c and a week ago was sledging. Temp has dropped almost 10c since 8am.

Well done Gloria, keep up the good work please, am drowning in work and stuff here!

people really need to start making the connections between climate change, flooding, their own actions and stuff they can do to prevent/ease it. but it is going to be someone else's job for a very long time. (councils blame government, government blame councils, individuals take no/little responsibility (not that they can build flood defences ) and we all keep using energy like there is no tomorrow.

pissed off as people do not need to be bloody flooded again.

Will do my best, OYBBK Smile

Blackeyed ~ someone on the radio this morning who runs a business in the Cumbria area said this morning that if he gets flooded this time, that's it. He's had enough, been working non-stop since Christmas/Boxing Day and he's not going to try and rebuild everything again Sad

Think there should be wind warnings. Wind getting up here in Edinburgh and a couple of lorries have been blown over on the A1 near Dunbar.

GloriaSmud · 26/01/2016 09:38

Perihelion ~ yes, it's going to be blustery today as well. Storm/strong winds showing up quite well here

Yep it's pretty horrendous in Dumfries and Galloway, why couldn't we have got all that snow instead Sad

I'm surprised there aren't any wind warnings from the metoffice for Scotland. TrafficScotland mention gales/severe gales.

I agree Blackeyed but it's taken a couple of hundred years to get to this stage and cannot imagine how we are going to be able to reverse it. I worry so much, very scary future.

On a local level though yes it does look bad today and I feel so so sorry for the people who have lived through dreadful flooding and are about to suffer again Sad.

Amazing red sky this morning - very strange and rather menacing - a bit spooked by it (I'm in SW Devon). Now very breezy and starting to rain assuming this is the start of it.
Hope all stay safe

Another wet day for some areas today, with snow over Scottish hills.
Next warning day is Friday, when gales and rain return.

Possible hints of something colder next week (way into the future when it comes to forecasting though.)

So wet earlier today with sideyways rain from the North. Friday's looking really shite Shock but at least no fog warning Grin.
It's getting cooler here 4c.

And am fucked off as ever with the shiteness of the Met Office warning maps when dealing with more than one type of hazard.

Perihelion ~ the metoffice's site is awful when there's more than one weather warning for an area needed. Their old website was much better.

(Not surprised at this, having seen it on the weather charts) The metoffice have issued an amber warning for some areas. Winds gusting 60-70mph, 80mph on exposed coasts/hills. And there's a yellow warning for rain, snow and ice in there too.

If you click on the warning map, the warning areas get a little border around them. It is still quite pants though.

I know OYBBK but Scotland just looks ridiculous.
Amber warning for wind for most of Scotland, NI and northern England. Overnight Thurs into Friday morning rush hour. Could be quite nasty for the Central Belt as the wind is almost a westerly.
Getting windy already, but we have sun Smile

Lively local forecast here (IOM) for overnight, could get gusts of storm force 10. Hopefully it will calm down a bit in time for the school run. Second time this week we have had F10 on the forecast! Getting a bit fed up now...

Report
Perihelion · 28/01/2016 19:47

Kipper more lively weather to come on Monday as well. Could be a hat trick of F10s for you Shock
Lots of cancellations and reduced services tomorrow morning for Cal Mac ferries and Scotrail including Glasgow Edinburgh service. And Forth Bridge is warning of a possible full bridge closure at 8am
