Flying visit to mn this morning!!!

met office have issued gale warnings for Scotland and parts of northern England as a nasty low pressure is forecast to develop. Severity will depend on exact path of the storm. More later!

Thank you! Do you know if York is going to be affected at all?

FFS! Gusts of 38mph already.......

There are two nasty little lows one following the other, one on saturday and then one on Sunday looking like they will take near identical paths. Worst affected areas look to be northern scotland with also the west of Scotland, northern Ireland and the NW of England especially not looking great. Could see gusts in NW Scotland of 80+mph but generally more like 60+mph.

Def time to rebatten down the hatches.

York looks generally windy but no worse really than many other parts of England. I think northern England should also in general be spared the worst.

booh.. where exactly does the north of Scotland start kitten? I hope you mean everything north of Bonar Bridge or so... Last night was fairly wild, but calmed down this morning- calm before the next storm then

Its a sliding scale oricella depending on your definition of bad winds and also where the lows exactly end up but I reckon Dundee is a good place to draw a line across!

Yellow warning for almost the whole of Scotand ( and NI ) for Saturday, West and North from Islay in an arc through Fort William, to just North of Aberdeen, on Sunday.
Roof not yet fixed from last week...

Just had a quick glance and will look better later. GFS has the first storm affecting Scotland and NI quite widely. SUndays storm tracks a little further north and so is more likely to affect the NW of Scotland more than anywhere else.

Still looks like the worst areas will be Scotland (esp the NW) and NI. Blowy for the rest of the uK, but not too bad. However there is still a lot of potential for more storms this week. No change to the met office warnings so far but its a bit early for them.

updated met office warnings for the two storms on Sat and Sun.

Note both the difference in warning areas for the two days but also look at the warnings matrix which to summarise says that Sat its likely to to cause issues, but the impact shouldnt be too bad but Sun they are still uncertain as to how badly the areas in the warning zones will be affected but the impact could be higher.

NE Scotland/Dundee - we have a weather warning etc in place - forecast of 60mph at midday - currently pretty calm!
Does anyone know if this is really going to happen????
Was planning on going into Dundee today and tomorrow with DCs - over the Tay Bridge! (Party dress shopping for Mon and a Santa visit!)
They will close the bridge (again) if wind goes above 80mph...
is this a storm in a teacup, has it gone over - or is it going to hit the fan later???
(If we get 'trapped' on the other side instead of 5 miles, it is a 50+ mile round trip along some dodgy - in places tree lined - roads...not what I would choose to do with DCs in car!!)

Report
Perihelion · 14/12/2013 11:10

Not forecast to go above 60/70mph, so bridge will be fine as long as you're in a car. Not as strong as last week's storm.

Thanks - but I know they have got it wrong before ...and winds have been higher than forecast ...(I don't think they forecast as high as they went last week?)
Having done the round trip once about 10 yrs ago - the year a lorry driver was killed near Perth - I decided never again! There was one stretch where there was a tree in the road just round a corner on a 60mph two lane country road - and some drivers who seemed to think it was compulsory to do 60! It was one of the scariest experiences of my life!
Wind is picking up a bit now ...skies are dark... but not really blowy yet Hmm

The difficulty with these storms as I've been saying is predicting the exact path. It doesnt take much of a tilt in the track to take much of Scotland out of harms way.

Thanks Kitten. Very wild here as predicted, strong gusts. Our bin blew over this morning, had to run around picking up all the rubbish in our PJs Angry
