As probably the only person in Britain who hates the heat...

...could someone tell me how long this heatwave will last? I'm hearing alarming forecasts of it lasting for the rest of the summer. Gulp. Is this really the case? (Should say I live in the SW, and am very envious of those in the temperate north).

I've heard it will last about 2 weeks or so.
I like being warm, I hate being hot.

I can't sleep in the heat and I am not the most attractive person when sweating like a pig.

Unsure yet, but there are some hints in the latest ECMWF model run of a cool down in about 10 days time. However the majority of theGFS ensembles show it continuing until the 20th. That is getting very far in forecasting land, so I wouldn't pin any thoughts on to it.

My early and initial thoughts are that it isn't going anywhere fast, but they well could be famous last words Grin

Come to Glasgow............looks like rain.

Long term weather forecast on the met office website has it warm all month, unless you're in Scotland or the Northwest.

It gets a bit less blistering here on the Northeast coast - even the heatwave criteria are a lot lower than elsewhere. I'm still hiding in my cool, shady livingroom, though!

I hate it more and more as I get older.

I adore it :) my hurty bits don't hurt so much and I'm not blue. Long live summer!

Oh bum. I love sleeping curled up in my duvet, but that's just not possible in this weather. Roll on autumn...

Here's the things that annoy me about the heat:

*hayfever
*being sweaty and feeling uncomfortable
*having to keep DD plastered in suncream
*rubbish TV as assumption is everyone is outside
*more insects
*only blockbusters on at the cinema
*sunlight shows how dusty my house is and how slack my housekeeping is
*can't sit by a beautiful fire feeling cosy
*have to shave my legs more often
*have to wear less clothes, which is not a good look when you're packing a bit of junk in the trunk IYKWIM
*other people's bodily smells
*other people's crusty feet on display

I'm a real summer Grinch, I know, but I really don't DO this season.

" I'm hearing alarming forecasts of it lasting for the rest of the summer."

Good. And about time too.

Sorry, but you cold weather lovers generally get cold weather for most of the year. It is now the turn of summer lovers to enjoy the precious few days of warm weather we are currently having.

It has been 22 degrees here today - perfect Grin

Those of you who dislike warm weather, what are you actively doing to ease the discomfort?

Good point Bunbaker. I've got a fan in my bedroom and wishing I could install some air-con! I take your point about getting away with it for most of the year...but it still doesn't make these sort of temperatures more palatable. I do know there's not many of us that think that though. And 22 degrees not so bad I admit; not so keen on 30+.

Hate it too, absolutely hate it. Makes me depressed and really cross. DD1 had her sports day this morning, I detested every hot second of it. We have a party to go to tomorrow. Now they're bound to have it in the garden.

What would you suggest Bunbaker? Apart from cold water/ice lollies/staying in the shade if poss/fans? In the cold you can warm up in some way. In the heat there is nothing you can do.

And I really resent being told by everyone that I should shut up and be grateful. Not aimed at this thread yet but doubtless there will be someone along in a minute.

Bunbaker - I keep the house shady and don't have windows and doors open on the hot side. There's sweet FA i can do when walking the 1km uphill after collecting the boys from school, mind - and I have fair, sun sensitive skin, allergic to most sun creams so definitely don't hang about in it!

I hate this weather too. Please don't let it go on for too long, I am 37+4 weeks pregnant and can't handle this heat at the best of times let alone having to give birth in it. I have just bought a desk fan to take to the hospital because I am scared they won't have one (alo have a battery run hand held fan, a paper fan and a water spray!!)

28/29+ degrees........[sobs hysterically]

I always take Fan into hospital even when not pregnant!

I had an emergency with DS that meant I had to call an ambulance in the middle of the night this winter just gone. Knowing it was freezing I stupidly chucked a bloody thick hoodie on (as I only live a minute away from the ambulance station and was half dressed & panicked).

I have never been so hot in all my life or at such a bad time Hmm

I think I would actually melt into the pavement if I went anywhere equatorial Grin

I am too fat for this weather. I sweat like a pig. Literally, it runs off me. Makes me feel tired, lethargic and grumpy.
Also have nothing weather appropriate to wear as am too fat for my summer clothes and too skint to buy new so have to sit in thick maternity jeans and sweaters.

I understand because I'm very very pale and suffer with really bad heat rash. I love the weather though, hate my skin.

I find one a day sun protection is great. If it gets really hot I reapply anyway and I have a stick for my face that I use when I start to feel cheeks burning a bit.

pale, red head, with read head or frecled childen means a lot of hard work. that and a flat that only faces west and gets no through breeze... it gets up to 30 degrees in the flat.

How hot is it where the rest of you are? We have had 22 degrees today which is very warm rather than hot.

I have every sympathy if you suffer from hayfever, heat rash, sunburn etc because there is very little you can do about it. Unfortunately, there are some summer whingers who don't do much to help themselves though.
