Is it settling? When you get heavy rain it can turn to snow even though on paper it's too warm - tis something called evaporative cooling where heavy rain falls through a region of dry air. As the rain falls some of it evaporates, this takes energy and so cools the air down and can cool it to the point where snow happens. Can catch forecasters out. I suspect this was the cause.

Did surprise me a bit this morning, we had a mix of rain sleet and snow for a short while. Tis sunny now.

Was going to say well we have lovely bright sunshine here - and it was when I took the DCs to their Saturday morning activity 30 minutes ago.However on looking round it has gone all grey and horrible

Twas snowing in the Chilterns (Christmas Common) at 8.30, proper big flakes, and sticking, when I dropped ds off at work.

Hopefully it's melted now, that side of the valley is in sunshine.
