What the bejeezus is going on

I still haven't really had my heating on. My winter coats are in their covers. We have the summerweight duvet on the bed. Just back from a weekend in Brighton where we sat eating fish & chips beside the sea with sunglasses on in our t-shirts.

Checked beeb weather and it says staying mild all week in London, going up to 17 degrees again on Wednesday.

I am not really complaining but seriously how long can this go on for? It is bizarre in the extreme. And I would like at least a bit of frost by December, I am starting to feel like a fraud making list of presents to buy.

had the heating on last monday to dry some stuff on the radiator, and again on saturday for an hour to take the chill off after the childrens baths, but really probably didn't need to.

i think we needed it more at the end of august when it seemed to be really cold. it seems that someone cut up the seasons and rearranged them. instead of getting summer between spring and autumn, it sees we had spring and autumn in summer and summer in spring and autumn.

at least we are saving money for now, though we have just spent a lot on cavity wall insulation and effort on loft insulation.

It does feel very odd doesnt it! cooler next week but not cold. Its down to the positioning of a big old low pressure that just seems to pretty much sit there pulling up air from the med.

I don't mind not having the heating on at all, but working out how to get clothes dry is becoming more and more complicated! been picking strawberries from our garden this weekend. Bizarre!

washing clothes 3 days before we actually need them here. back to school now, so putting the hot water on for baths everyday will mean that clothes can go in the airing cupboard and dry in less than 3 days!

I am hoping we are not going to have to "pay" for this with long spells of cold damp weather and frosts of minus 12 again!

OYBBG, what are our chances of getting the cold weather that's just hit NE USA? Don't we normally get the tail-end of their weather or is that a load of bunkum?

Muggy here for past few days never seems to get light either.

I just looked to see I was posting about putting my son in tights on 1st Nov last year. It must have been quite a bit colder I think. I want it to be colder.

singingtunelessely - our usual pattern of weather (though what usual is nowadays seems to have gone skewwhiff) is one where our weather is dominated by atlantic weather systems coming west-east. So you can see where the idea comes from - weather moving east from the US. However if we have something that blocks that usual pattern (like a high pressure over Greenland for instance) then our weather is no longer dominated by the atlantic and the idea then falls down.

No signs of us getting similar weather to the NE us in the next 2 weeks.

OYBBG - was going to and from Derry - was 14deg at the top of the mountain this morning (I was Shock) and was 4 deg in Ballykelly on the way home.

I don't know what it is here right now (I'm inside) but it was definitely colder this afternoon than it was this morning.

Odd as anything!

It doesn't feel that cold here and Derry was definitely balmy - no coats required but Ballykelly/Limavady was chilly.

Odd odd odd

Just as long as the Yanks keep their bloomin snow

This weather is really freaking me out now.

It's the 1st of November and when I came out of work at 1330 it was 17 degrees. That's right, 17 degrees.

We don't need the heating on which is a bonus in moneysaving terms, I haven't worn a coat for weeks and we've still got the lightweight summer duvet on the bed.

But it's weird and WRONG! It's November for crying out loud!

Well I feel really foolish as I'm now driving round with a new set of winter tyres on my car, they're designed for temperatures below 7'C.........I guess I'm just wearing them out prematurely (softer rubber)Blush.
