Current weather in Yorkshire and Humberside

Looks like our long-standing weekend plans might well be up the shoot!

Intending to drive to Sheffield Saturday afternoon, then the kids will make their way to York on Sunday for the day, whilst I go to Humberside.

Could anyone in these areas let me know what the weather is like now please? It just says gentle snow flurries on the forecasts, but then I hear the news about the artic weather!

Be really grateful for any updates Smile

I am in Bridlington - we had quite heavy snow last night and it has settled but it's stopped now, although there are clouds coming towards us. My DH works near Hull and says it was bad until about Hornsea but was clearer near Hull - don't think they got any last night. It's been very changeable though and none of the forecasts have matched up to what actually happened!

I recommend tuning into Radio Humberside online tomorrow morning if possible. They do pretty good weather/road updates in weather like this.

I'm in between Leeds and York and no snow here either - much to DS3's disappointment.

yes indeed.
Vale of York is sunny with wet soggy snow on the ground, the sort that melts easily so they have no trouble clearing the roads. I would not be surprised if there were flurries later but I don't think there'll be anything serious today.
Anywhere higher up apparently has it much worse, so if you were driving across the Wolds you would need to be careful but coming from the south and sticking to the main road into Hull you will be fine.
Up towards the moors is bad apparently - Pickering had it bad and the road down into Scarborough from the Wolds (Staxton Wold?) was impassable, but you will be south of all that.
I think the stuff you have seen in the news will be N Yorks not S or E. Honestly the climate in the Vale of York is very different from Wolds/Moors. It's always very localised round here - there was one day in the summer when it was so hot we decided to drive to the beach after work (other side of the Wolds) and when we got there it was freezing and so foggy you couldn't see the sea Hmm

So we might make it then - that's brilliant - thank you so much for letting me know.

I have until 12 noon tomorrow to cancel the hotel, so will be keeping a beady eye on things!

Hope it snows in everyone's gardens so that the dc can build their snowmen, but keeps off the roads Grin

Bit of snow here in Harrogate. Friends in Sheffield have a good few inches (but they are quite high up)

in sheffield quite a bit of snow, main roads clear although it does look like it is going to snow a lot more later.

That's interesting Dita - DS is in Sheffield and phoned to say it had snowed, but that there wasn't masses, and the forecast was that there wouldn't be any more today.

I can't make a decision!!!

The plan was that I would drive DD and her friend to Sheffield, we'd stay over and see DS (at uni there), and then the 'kids' would go up to York tomorrow while I go over to see PIL in Grimsby. I'm thinking in my head it would be silly, but in my heart I still want to do it. Missing DS's hugs!!!

I am in SW Sheffield, about 5 miles out of town, 1000 ft up the hill - so we normally get hit pretty bad if we are hit.

We do have snow today. DDH has driven to squash closer to town earlier this mrnign, so been out and about.

However it is a covering of snow and nothing more. The side roads where not treated or used less have a covering but are entirely driveable with no skidding as such. The busier and main roads are clear.

The skies are currently cloudy with blue sky showng between them.

We have family driving down from Essex for the weekend and they have set off and not concerned.

IDontLikeDisciples - whereabouts are your friends?

I have uploaded a picture of the snow here in my part of Sheffield, taken an hour or so ago. The sky is now less dark and more cloudy and interspersed with blue sky.

Hey - thank you all. We've decided not to go, as I can't afford to get stranded on Sunday. Really hacked off about it!

Sheffield would be fine - but York tomorrow still looks pretty dodgy - as does Grimsby (where I'd be headed!).

It sounds lovely winter weather in Sheffield Hulababy.

Thanks for the updates.

we do have a lot of snow here now - main roads clear but side roads packed with snow and a bit slippery. It was worse than forecast.
dh wanted to go to Scarborough for an auction viewing but we decided against it as it would only have taken one accident to block a road and risk us all being stranded in the car for hours....
sorry your weekend was messed up. You are probably wise - if it stays no worse than forecast you would have been fine but no weather forecast is 100% accurate.

oops, have just seen forecast has got worse.
you would definitely not want to be travelling up here.

Sheffield had no more snow today and all but the very quiet and less used roads are fine, and even then they are passable. We drove to Doncaster and back fine.

I think more may be forecast for tonight, but knowing the current frecasts - it is anyone's guess.
