Weaning

Is it normal to go backwards with weaning after illness?

DD - 10 months- was really enjoying her food until this week when she has had a sickness bug. Since she's recovered she will only eat weetabix or yoghurt for breakfast and gags on toast. She loved lumpy purees or mashed up fruit, but she even gags at banana or apple now and once was sick again.
Is this a normal reaction after sickness and does it mean that I have to go back to really finely pureeing everything again for a while?

No one seems to have answered this last one having same problem with dd2, been pretty sick the last week and having just started chicken etc now won't touch it.Is this normal and should I go backwards and only give her fruit and veg for a few days until she's ready to start protein. Any advice gratefully received.Thank you!

My experience is, yes, they will definitely go backwards! I just give favourites for a while and then bring back in protein etc slowly. As long as enough liquids being taken on they should be fine! I'm always amazed how little my DS can eat and then a week will go past and he will be back to normal.

Hi there
thanks for posting guys - tbh DD has now recovered and is back to eating her usual food, although she seems more fussy now (that could be her age - she is 1 week away from her first birthday).
I've noticed another post here about this - what I did was give milk as normal and anything that she likes, ie yoghurt and weetabix/porridge, and then I gradually introduced more lumpiness. Now however, she pushes the food out of her mouth again, examines it with her little fingers and puts it in her mouth once again....lovely! So mostly she's feeding herself now, which is great, but messy
