Are strips of cheddar ok to offer a 6.5 month old or is there a better lower salt option??

both mine had cheddar, although am sure there are lower salt cheeses around. As far as I am aware, cheddar is used in most cheese sauces for babies (Annabel Karmel certainly uses cheddar) so would imagine it would be fine.

Go for a mild organic one - yeo valley do one that is nice. Just make a small amount go a long way - ie grate it or v finely slice it. DD loves this on crumpets! and as Cauliflower cheese.

if you use a fine grater to grate a carrot, then grate some cheese and mix it up you can put it in pita halves and stick them in the toaster. leave to cool (obv) and cut into fingers. combination of cheese and bread is salty but the grated carrot ekes it out and adds veg, so just be careful about salt for the rest of the day and you'll be fine. i put cumin powder or sweet smoked paprika in mine and dd's, that's nice too.

That sounds lovely - I might try that myself!

Most cheeses have fairly similar salt content. It's mostly only the processed ones that have added salt, so if you go for real cheese you should be fine.

Ds2 loves cheese - prefers little lumps to grated, probably because they're easier to pick up and cram into his mouth. He doesn't seem bothered whether it's mild or mature, which is lucky, because we just don't do mild cheddar (euwww).
