Is there a suggested 'limit' for how many eggs a 12 month old should eat in a week?

DD loves eggs, which we have only recently started giving her. I know that there used to be a 'limit' on how many eggs adults should eat a week due to cholestral...and then I think that changed. I also know that you are supposed to give babies 'good' fats in dairy....so where does that leave us with eggs??

I'm obviously not going to be stuffing hjer full of them every day, just wondered if anyone knew of any guidelines.

I have no idea to be honest, but considering that egg whites are not meant to be given to children before 12 months I would keep the quantity on the small side.
Probably once or twice a week for a few months.

no idea either but interested. ds is 2 and has one every day for breakfast. apparently i went through a stage of refusing to eat anything else at about the same age, so was on about two a day. am perfectly healthy

i have heard that organic eggs are one of the things which are worth buying. they certainly taste nicer.

We were weaned on egg, and had two a day during most of our childhood. We were fine, or so I said until I started paying more attention to those things and realised we were not that well: Both my sisters have highfever, my nephews too, my younger sister spent the first 3 years of her life comming in and out of hospital with something that had been described as allergic bronchitis, and I suspect the three of us had a mild form of asthma. One generation later things have gone worse.

I don't blame the eggs as the main or single culprit, but I wonder how much do the eggs given regularly to us before we were one, contributed to our history. Just a thought.

gosh that is a lot of egg for babies isabel, did you have room for much else at all?

i think all is ok past 12 months though so long as no allergy, no diff between my 2yo and notyummy's 1yo?

there is no limit for most people. This is from Food Standards Agency:

There is no recommended limit on how many eggs people should eat. Eggs are a good choice as part of a healthy balanced diet. But remember that it's a good idea to eat as varied a diet as possible. This means we should be trying to eat a variety of foods each week to get the wide range of nutrients we need.

Eggs are a good source of:

protein
vitamin D
vitamin A
vitamin B2
iodine

Is this information relative to babies Seona? Does it take in consideration particular cases when the family is atopic?

isabel, see my post below, i think in this case as notyummy's dd is over 1year then is pretty much subject to same guidance as adults.

Thanks for the responses. I did know that eggs are allergens and have watched her carefully. She was fully bf up to 6 months and we introduced all new foods carefully, but apart from some lactose intolerance following a d and v bug at 8 months, she has seemed fine. (Fingers crossed!)

Will carry on with scrambled egg and omelettes two or three times a week then, as there doesn't seem to be anything particularly against it.

Appologies, you didn't say how old your baby is, and I have been posting in another thread with a mum whose baby has just had a reaction to eggs, hence the mix up.

what I meant to say was that you should not give her whole eggs until she is one year old and then, if she is fine with them, giving them once or twice a week.

Yolks are fine from 8m old according to the guidelines I have.
