Dreading stage 2 weaning!

Having read through quite a few threads, I have to say you all sound so organised!!

I started weaning DD at 5 months and having bought a Beaba babycook, have managed to fill my freezer with multicoloured cubes of pureed fruit and veggies which I pull out, combine in different ways and feed DD with. (she takes most things although definitely has a preference for fruit over veggies). Now I need to start cooking proper meals for her and I'm panicking!

I'm rubbish at organising what DH and I are going to eat so to plan a new menu system for DD at the same time is making my head spin!

There seems to be so much pressure to ensure she gets the right balance of protein/carbs/vitamins etc. I'm giving her finger foods after she's had purees but to think of having a good range of finger food options on top of a variety of meals makes me feel like I'll be spending my life between the kitchen and Sainsburys.

Feel completely useless and disorganised. Any tips on how to get my head round this, stop panicking and get my self a bit more organised???

How old is dd and what is Stage 2 !? I sometimes just used to allow a bit extra of veg and meat from our meal(ds loved roast) and save it for lunch the next day . Pasta and rice are good staples to have, to which you can add what ever veg is around and cooked ham, chicken, tuna etc or make batches of pasta sauce to freeze(any residual purees work well ,and you can grate cheese over) and defrost. tbh I think you're trying too hard

No need to panic!

How old is she now?

If she's still BF / FF you don't need to worry too hard about 'right balance' of anything - her primary source of nutrition is milk and will be till she's 12mo ish.

Assuming you and DH don't live on readymeals and takeaways there's no need to spend ages making special dedicated meals just for her - think about fingers of toast or a bit of porridge while you have your breakfast, bits of ham/cheese/fruit from your lunch, spoonful of chicken and rice from your dinner.

If you're really at sea there are some pretty good 'family food' recipe books out there that have ideas for things that all three of you can eat, which might be more useful than dedicated 'baby' books - Ill have a rummage round the old threads as I can't remember any off the top of my head.

someone on MN recommended me Finger foods for babies and toddlers by jennie maizels - i got it from amazon and it has some fab ideas for baby meals, however you are feeding. i hate cooking but there are loads of quick and easy things. i thought i'd find the whole weaning thng a nightmare as i have no real interest in food at all,and didnt want to project this onto my dd but it has been ok and she eats like a horse!
good luck!

Hi there,

My DD is 6 months and one week and at the moment I'm concentrating on getting her to taste as many different fruit and veg as possible, which I assume is Stage 1.

I've looked at lots of baby recipe books and it does look very complicated, but as the PPs have suggested, I am going to give her small, mashed versions of the foods that I eat (DH eats rubbish ) - it has made me think more about what I eat and that can only be healthier, can't it?
Good luck
