Iron supplements?

Hi. DS is 7 months old but was 5 wks premature. I BF exclusively then started solids at 6 mo (unadjusted) since his weight gain was great (he caught up and overtook) and he was starting to sit up and grab at my food etc.

Am still BFing on top of 3 solid feeds/day. Should he be getting an iron supplement since he was prem? He had iron drops for a few days at 2-3 wks b/c prolonged jaundice but then nothing but am concerned about the 4 wks iron build-up time in the womb that he missed out on. HV looked a bit nonplussed when I asked ... anyone out there know?

I'm not an expert, but if he's eating well and bfing, then he won't need iron supplements.

My dd2 was a lot older (17 months)when she needed iron supplements - she was ill quite a lot, and wasn't eating well and was very pale.
