How long are they interested?

Been weaning just over a week now with dd2. She seems to have the right idea, and most times something seems to get eaten (just a tiny bit). She seems easily distracted though, today she was intent on studying the back of the chair. When she caught sight of the food on her tray she had a chew, or squished it, or lobbed it on the floor. Seems she can take it or leave it most of the time.

Does this seem familiar to anyone?

yes that's fine. do you eat with her? she'll figure out the food is nice to eat as well as play with. just keep putting it in front of her.

Yes, I do eat with her, as does dd1 (who as a happy side-effect is eating much better herself this past week). DP works shifts so we don't often see him at mealtimes.

We had a really good day today. Either just one of those things, or she so loved the melon I gave her that she stuck with it and something "clicked". Melon was lunchtime, this evening she had some brocolli and the first few bits dribbled out of her mouth, but I watched her chew it and swallow. We were both chuffed to bits, let me tell you.

Thanks for reassuring me about her not giving it her undivided attention. Chilling out about it is key, it seems.
