Weaning

Nearly 7 month old off milk but not eating much

My DD is nearly 7 months and she is kind of getting to grips with weaning. When we started she wouldn't actually swallow anything and anything on a spoon would get pushed back out of her mouth.

I kept offering bits of our dinner and added a spoon-fed breakfast which she was starting to eat and swallow.

She's not been well for about a week and went completely off milk. She had hardly any solids too as she wasn't that bothered.

She seems mostly better but still won't have her milk - she cries as if she's hungry but then stops after an oz or 2. Problem is, she's not eating enough food to make up for it!

Should I drastically up the food or persevere with the milk? I can't see she is getting enough of either at the moment!

It's not massively uncommon for babies to go off eating/milk after an illness (even a few weeks). Milk is still very important at this age (should still get 500ml till 1 years) so would try as much to focus on this rather than loads of food. Is she still having lots of wet nappies? Is her weight ok?

If it continues too long or if you have any other concerns it's worth seeing your doctor.

I think it might be worth asking the GP to check her throat and ears for infection.

It's OK, it was a tooth! Grin

But thanks for your replies!
