Weaning

I'm bored with dd's lunch and dinner options - 10 months. Any ideas?

She's quite happy with these but i'm a bit bored and wondering if i'm missing any obvious lunch and dinner ideas.. I'm doing a mixture of spoon feeding and finger foods - she likes spoonfeeding herself too so stickier things are good. And i like making and freezing stuff in advance cos i'm lazy that way.

At the moment she's having - Fish pie. Shepherd Pie. Pasta w cheese sauce and veg. Lentil stew. Lentil rissoles. Eggy bread. Leftovers of our food eg risotto, bits of chicken, etc, cheese strips, erm, toast w soft cheese, rice cakes, hummous and assorted bits of my lunch if we're out.

Plus yoghurt after breakfast, and fruit 2/3 times a day just in case you're wondering. Oh and bf 3/4 times a day.

And is it time to start giving snacks in between? What sort of thing?

My DS is only 8 mths so no as advanced - veggie curry (with lentils/chickpeas or butter beans) goes down well with rice or couscous - couscous is easier and quicker than rice. Curry is mild not a vindaloo!!!. Made a beany sweet potato stew the other day (veggies, lentils, chick peas, tinned toms and sweet potato and touch of mild chilli powder) and that went down well. Lasagne (our tea) went down the hatch today. When I'm really stuck baked potato (scoop out middle and mix with a bit of milk and cheese sometimes add veg like a few peas mashed - also have given a few baked beans - probably not ideal but what we wre having and he loved it). Tend to do 'proper' lunch and then finger foods for tea. Lots of yoghurt/fruit - banana custard as a treat occassionally. Look forward to hearing any other suggestions

we had tagine of lamb shanks with prunes today... mmm. dd loved it, fished out the carrots and the meat and prunes, then spoon fed herself the couscous (that i'd stuck together with yoghurt).

Is there a reason you can't just give her whatever you're having?

Well i sort of do for lunch but give her separate dinner - we eat later cos dh doesnt get home til 7.30/8 and he usually cooks.

And we don't eat very baby friendly food - though getting in the habit of using less salt and leaving bits for her the next day. Just wanted more ideas for stuff to stock up the freezer with so i can do quick dinners.

i just freeze our leftovers to use as quick dinners. things like stews, hotpots, spag bol, lasagne etc etc. i then reheat them and cool them down to edible levels with the addition of frozen peas.

i'm watching now... am enjoying shilpa's new-found skittishness.

Yes she's earning her probable winner status a bit more eh?

I think the lack of variety has sprung from the fact that we tend to eat grilled meat and fish and not so much of the stew and pie type stuff. Though we have eaten more of that sort of stuff recently when i've made it for her.

Curry's a good idea thanks pelvicflaw and will look at your blog for more.
