Quick non-dairy protein meal ideas?

7mth DD has milk issues, so weaning without it, but need ideas for quick & easy protein meals. Friends give their babies yogurt, cheese, etc. Any dairy-free ideas?

can he have goats milk and yogurt? dd is milk intolerant but can have goats milk.

the best sourse of protein is meat, are you vegatarian that this isn't an option?

beans are also a good source of protein... try chickpeas, lentils etc. and eggs are a fabulous sourse of protein too

Have done chicken & haddock. Was about to try salmon, but DD caught a virus that is going around which made both ends erupt. Didn't want to add new thing while she was ill.

How old do they have to be for eggs?

egg yolks are ok from 6 months afaik, egg whites are often left out til later if theres a history of allergy

eggs is a funny one. egg white some say wait til 5 years old believe it or not. there's something about the size of the protein in egg white that makes it prone to allergic response in the under 5s. then after age 5 they're fine. so up to you... make sure it's cooked through either way, or maybe just use yoke if you are an allergy prone family?

Getting home late and finding something quick & easy to feed her is my problem. Even cooking red lentils takes 20-30 min.

Goat & cow milk give her bad diarrhea for days. Not vege, but cooking the meat, or making sure we have meat on hand is the hard part.

Gave her baked beans yeasterday, and felt like a bad mum! glad to know others do it, too.

can you cook up big batches at the weekend and freeze in one portions sizes, then take one portion out in the morning and leave it to defroest in the fridge and bung it in the microwave when you come in. nothing easier than that!

Lentils and other pulses including peas, hummous, falafel etc. The added bonus with hummous is that it contains tahini which is high in calcium. On the pulses front red lentils are the best as they're quick to prepare and very versatile. Just remember to combine them with a cereal like rice, cous cous or pasta and you have no worries on the protein and iron front (lentil dahl, rice and vegetables is a perfect meal). You could also try quinoa cooked up with vegetable stock, or even lentils and quinoa cooked together to make a thick soup.

I do all this when my DD has a cold as I prefer to keep off the dairy while she's really snotty.

BTW I second the cooking in batches and freezing idea. I get home late from work too and have to put something on the table in 10 mins or all hell is let loose.

Thanks for the ideas, I've got batches in the freezer, but need a quickie if i run low or just for a bit of variety (have two kinds in there now, and too tired to make more at the mo)

Like the quinoa idea. Hadn't thought of that!
