BLW - am so glad we did it!

Hi!

I just wanted to say that I'm so glad we did BLW. Alfie started at 25 weeks and is now 37 weeks. He eats everything, including pincer grip type foods such as rice and scrambled egg. He eats from our plates in restaurants, shares our family dinners and is developing amazingly well. Meanwhile on my Mums Club April 2006 there are loads of posts about how they've moved from purees to mashed foods and their babies are choking and being sick on the lumps. There's nothing to say Alfie isn't just a super advanced child compared to theirs but I suspect it's just that BLW is definitely the way to go IMHO!

I'm not knocking any mum who does purees. It's all personal choice. I just wanted to say that I'm glad WE did BLW

Great! I also did BLW, because no other method of weaning worked for my dd, and now she's 14 months, she eats well, and can use a fork and spoon more or less.

It's really good that people are beginninig to realise there is a choice about how you do things - and you can choose what is best for your baby

That's great!

I've never been on a discussion board where people reply as quickly as this one!

Better go pay the car valeter and get Alfie up from his nap to go swimming

We just need to convince the HVs there's a choice now!

ok
Spill the beans...what is BLW - have I missed something?
Mine are older now and did the puree, lumpy then normal food thing and they have been fine, will eat wide range of food. Interested in diff approaches though. My sister is struggling with weaning atm and is doing the Annabel Karmel method (like I did and like HV recommends here). If there is another theory that can work, would love to hear about it and pass on to her

babyledweaning.com

it's basically you wait til baby is 6 months and can feed themself. so no purees, straight to proper food. the idea is to give them food off your plate more or less, but most people do start with simple fruit and veg. loads of pics on that website, plus link to gill rapley's study which explains the theories behind it.

Thanks, will look at website - did the 'recommended route' with ds who started off eating everything but at 3 is fussy, which I deffo want to avoid.

thanks. I will send my sis a link to that website. Off to have a peak myself. Sounds rather sensible to me.
I loved making baby food for mine (made me feel a little better about giving up bf sooner than I liked - at least I was going to feed them with "proper" weaning food lol!) Always seemed a shame to make these lovely little batches of baby pasta/lasagne/fish pie etc and then blitz all the fun out of them into a mush!
Wish I had heard of this 3 years ago!
