Switching from expressed breast milk to formula

I have fed my daughter with EBM for 8 weeks since birth and now need to switch her to formula. I express every 4 to 5 hours, roughly 5 times a day and get approx 200-300ml at each sitting. I want some advice on how to start my supply drying up and moving her over to formula. I have stacks of ebm in the freezer so can complement formula bottles with that still but I am really unsure on how to go about changing the expressing itself. I cannot really drop a session out because my breasts become lumpy, engorged and painful. Should I just look to reduce the amount I express each time and if so by how much? I don't want to do it too quickly for fear of mastitus.

Any help and advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Julie

Julie - awfully sorry to tell you this, but at some point you are going to have to drop a feed. I went through a similar thing with DD. Expressed for eight weeks and reached a point where I just needed to switch to formula. It took me 14 days to drop from expressing six times a day to not at all.

If you want to send me your email address to [email protected] I will mail you the schedule I devised and used. It is a sore process but if you do it gradually it is managable. It'll also work well to get your baby's tummy used to moving onto formula.
