Have any of you done this?

Dd2 has really bad reflux and I've been told that weaning her might help.

Dd1 weaned at 6 months do I'm unsure what to do

You are best to only wean on advice of a health professional before 6mths we did at 21weeks on advice due to silent reflux and a baby who was and still is a crap breast feeder (lots issues long story) he loves food and we have done mix of puree and blw he is 28weeks now and on three meals and eats a fair bit far more than my first did.

My son has reflux. He vomited a LOT. A few oz of every feed. It was tiresome. We started weaning at 5.5 months. It didn't help.

He essentially struggles to keep down things that are 'thin'. So fruit and veg purée came back up straight away. Only it was worse than milk, it smelled like proper sick.

He is still growing out of the sicky stage now, he's 8.5 months. Still vomits a few times a day and can't keep some foods down, but weaning in general didn't help us at all.

My ds had reflux and we were advised by dietician (he was also dairy free) that it was best to wean from 16 weeks.

Thank you all,

dd2 has reflux really bad and has a milk protein allergy too. I think I will go down to baby clinic tomorrow and speak to the health visitor there.

Good luck with the hv. If you don't get much clarity (not to knock hvs, but mine is open about not knowing much about reflux and weaning) then try another, or try gp if you are worried.

I was anxious about the proper sick that pp mentions, so have waited until dd is 6 months. Glad I have, as the vom has started to get a little better on its own in the last few weeks. Am also finding that bf at least an hour before solids helps. It was awful when I tried solids followed by milk Shock

My DS spits up a lot, so i asked about solids at the latest visit as he will be turning 4 months next week and been told that here in The Netherlands they recommend for all babies to start solids at 4 months. Used to be 6months the lady said but thats now considered old view apparently:) she gave me the whole schedule of what/when etc

My dd has silent reflux and I've been wondering about weaning earlier too. I did blw with my older dd so I'd rather wait if possible but dd2 just hates milk so much. I'm going to try and hold off til 24 weeks (20 weeks just now) but I'm hoping it will help.

Reflux is awful. You have my sympathies xx

My DD had bad silent reflux as a baby and we were advised by a dietician to wean early. I tried several times to wean between 4 and 7 months but had to give up each time as she got very badly constipated - I only gave her fruit purée, mainly apple or pear . The dietician thought perhaps her gut was too immature but we never got to the bottom of it as when I tried at 7.5 months it worked and she could digest food properly. The reflux got better rapidly once I weaned her, she loved solids and refused milk completely from around 8.5 months, but the dietician said not to worry and give her other calcium and vit D rich foods
