Please can anyone give me any ideas for foods/recipes?

My dd is 10 months old and has cows milk protein intolerance so avoids all dairy and soya.

I'm finding weaning a bit difficult and disheartening. She likes porridge with banana puree in, likes pears and apples, likes the pureed fruit pots, avocado, rice cakes, toast, oatcakes, baked beans.

She doesn't like veg or chicken or pork, or am have I misinterpreted her not liking them for playing as most of the food ends up on the floor?

I find it quite stressful as the food gets launched everywhere even with a towel on the floor!

My dd had the same thing. We got the Ella's kitchen cookbook, quite a few recipes are dairy free and where there is milk, substituted with oat milk. If you are feeling lazy most of the Ella's kitchen pouches are dairy free. They do nice ones for older babies.

Don't worry about her not seeming to eat so much, I think it's more about exploration still at this age (although someone more knowledgeable may correct me).

Thanks for your help.

It's tricky isn't it not being able to give them any milks, yoghurts or cheeses.

We use the oatmilk in her porridge and she seems to like that.

We have the same problem, plus lots of allergies in DH's family so I'm being extra cautious. It's sad that she can't have dairy because yoghurts and cheeses are so yummy and nutritious!

Things that I tend to give her, which are easy to prepare and well received:

  • Apple/pear cut into wedges, raw.
  • Carrot sticks, steamed or baked.
  • Sweet potato wedges, steamed or baked.
  • Carrot or sweet potato purees are popular too, but messier.
  • Pre-prepared packs of long-stem brocolli and baby corn, steamed or stir-fried.
  • Spinach and rice puree (cook the rice for ages with loads of water so it's nice and soft, then add spinach for 1-2 min at the end, then puree). Sounds disgusting but this is so she gets iron.
  • Chicken drumsticks or thighs, stir-fried then torn into large strips that she can hold. She can't chew well, but sucks and gums a lot of nutrition from the chicken, then throws away the dried shrivelled bits at the end.
  • Beef or lamb steak, pan-fried then cut into fingers. She eats these like the chicken.

I gave her multivitamin drops as well, for a short while, but now she's eating pretty well I don't think they're needed anymore.

Hope that helps!

I have just started weaning ds2 6mths and we use expressed breast milk in place of milk Inc for white sauce for fish pie, have dieticians appointment this week for advise regarding weaning and cmpi not found it an issue so far suppose as I have been dairy free to bf, although would love to just give stick cheese or cheese sandwich for lunch.

Thanks very much. I bought the Ella's kitchen red recipe book on kindle. Today we've made the butternut squash soup and the banana slices.
Lots of lovely recipes to cook so I'm feeling more positive!
