Gagging?

Ds is coming up 8 months. I have been recently making his food quite coarse, he has two teeth and more on the way and likes to chomp on the spoon. He will very happily eat finger food bits of banana or vegetable sticks, as well as purees and yogurts etc off a spoon, but when it comes to soft lumpy food he gags a lot and gets put off. Does anyone else get this? Should I keep trying and hope he gets used to it? I don't want to keep him on smooth purees for ever but there are some foods he can't pick up himself and I want him to have a varied diet.

Keep at it. He will soon get used to it.

Don't hold back the lumpy stuff just because he gags. Gagging is OK - it's just the baby getting used to the sensation of having lumpy food in his mouth. As long as he's not actually choking, it's fine - stick with it, he'll get there.
