OK to add new foods?

Dd had a cold last week. We're stage 1 weaning (ie bland non allergy food).

Her poo is vile and green, quite loose at times.
The GP is confident this is the cold and will tail off over the week. They have been getting less green gradually, but still a bit grim.

So far I've been giving her apple, avocado, baby cereal, broccoli, sweet potato, potato, swede.

I'd like to add some more starchy and fatty foods.
Any ideas for easily digested ones?

My "gut" instinct is not yet for meat or cheese.
Tofu? yoghurt? lentils?

...those foods had all been given pre cold. They did not cause green poo. It seems to be linked to the cold.

How old is she?

I'd chuck em in.

Is there a family history of food allergy?

6 1/2 months.

No food allergies but dh has mild asthma.

How about some pasta? Maybe try some chicken strips too - should be pretty gentle on the tummy.

Ooh yes! I have some bow ties that would be easy to grip! :) Ta!

I don't think meat or cheese are 'hard' to digest, my DS has them fine, if anything it's fruit that gives the most weird and wonderful nappies! There is no risk in introducing meat and dairy after 6 months, even with a/after a cold. Chicken is arguably blander than an acidic fruit for example. Also cheese is just a variation on milk or yoghurt really. A stick of mild or medium chedder at a grating of cheese over veg would be a great way of giving her calcium or fats, which are very good for babies, again better than an all veg/fruit diet as she's old enough for them. A crumpet is great at being easy to eat (very soft and falls apart in the mouth) and you can spread anything you want them to eat on it!

Lentils not so easy to digest wind wise :) very healthy but she may fart like a trooper!

That ship has sailed. Grin She's a garter not a burper. Few possets but I often sniff the nappy!

Also when you mention 'stage 1 weaning', if it helps you want to give her new foods, Allergy UK say

"The DH recommends that high allergenic foods:

milk, eggs, wheat, gluten, soya
fish, shellfish
peanuts, tree nuts, seeds
can be introduced from 6 months of age. There is no evidence to support delaying introduction of these foods after 6 months."
So you don't have to do a non allergenic food period of you don't want to! At 6.5 months.

Rice is pretty good re allergies. Hard to get into them though.

I'd go egg and pasta. And toast.

DH is a terrible farter and honestly his worst nights (and nappies) have come things like broccoli and lentils and fruits! A nice cheese omelette in strips or something is fine for him. He's had various herbs and paprika in his foods too.

Just went in to dh and dd playing. There was a parp and a whiff.
DH blushed that he could not blame that one on her having meat for the first time yesterday. Twas him.

Grin Grin Grin No mix up in this case. Grin Grin

Cheese is very hard to digest. That's why it gives you nightmares.

squizita · 04/04/2015 11:26

I thought that was the tryptophan (and gave deep sleep with vivid dreams, not nightmares). Life long insomniac/sleep nerd. Grin

It is perfectly ok to give cheese to a 6 month + baby though, isn't it?

No idea what tryptophan is. But vivid dreams/nightmares - whatever. Both stop you sleeping.
Fine to give cheese to a little one, but it is hard to digest. Just saying.

Cheese is fine. Never had any nightmares from my DS after having cheese. I used cheese like emmental or similar, grated to make it easier to grab and eat.

Lentils are a good first protein food. Gina Ford has a recipe called Red Lentil Savoury which my girls have both liked in their time!
