Introducing dairy to breastfed babies

What is the best way to do this?

Dd is almost 6 mths and I have been weaning her very slowly since 21 weeks.

Now she has two tablespoons spoons of baby rice with
2 ozs of breastmilk and pureed fruit mixed in as she will not eat neat fruit puree.

For dinner she has veggies, i make my own and also use plum baby food pots (organic veg)i reuse the pots and she will eat a whole pot.

Would like to start on cheese and yogurts when i can but worried she may reast as i read reflux babies are more likely to be allergic to dairy.

Should I try formula first on her baby rice?

Be nice to do that rather then havibg to express every morning.

When should I introduce lunch? She seems quite happy right now so I am happy to go along like this for now.

You could try soya milk if it is just for mixing with rice etc, we did this with ds as wanted him to be dairy / egg free until 1 year, and used Plamil concentrated soya milk (diluted according to the packet). Some vegan families use it instead of formula full stop, but I couldn't recommend that myself. I felt happy to give it in small amounts on cereal etc though.

Can soya milk increase peanut allergies?

Sorry lovecloud, I don't know. I think you may be better off on the allergies board, they seem a very knowledgeable crew

Lovecloud, soya milk doesn't increase peanut allergies afaik, but soya is another common allergen in itself, and there is some thinking that soya might interfere with fertility if given too young (hence soya formula shouldn't be used under 6 months), so it wouldn't be my weaning product of choice!

I would try giving her a little formula with her rice and see if she reacts first of all.

If she's ok with that then try yoghurt next (this is the first dairy product that our paed said we should try when milk intolerant DD gets to 18 months).

You can introduce lunch whenever you and DD seem ready for it. If you're both happy with 2 meals a day at the moment then leave it like that until she can eat larger quantities and introduce lunch then.
