6mo sleeping through night until started weaning - help!

My twins had started sleeping through the night - had a couple of weeks blissful sleep and finally thought we had cracked it! Started weaning at 6 months and they have begun waking up several times in the night. In grobags and nursery the right temperature, they don't seem to need a feed or any attention just loudly chatter away to themselves for up to half an hour (rarely at the same time, they take it in turns to ensure we receive minimum sleep!). We thought it was quite cute the first couple of nights but realised in horror these chats were here to stay . Tried giving them a dummy but they tend to spit it out and resume their hooting before my heads hits the pillow.

Has anyone else had sleeping problems when weaning? Did they sort themselves out? Thanks for your advice...

My lo is doing this too, I have yet to find a solution as we have only been weaning for just over a week. I am hoping that as she and her stomach gets used to solid food her sleep will return.

Alfie has become a nightmare since we started weaning. He's coming 29 weeks and started BLW at 25 weeks. He's always woken up a couple of times in the night but is up constantly now! We're really struggling to function. I wondered if eating with us in the evening is too late and am going to try feeding him separately to see if it helps. You have my sympathies!

Same here DD 24 weeks - have yours started dropping milk feeds yet? DD won't stop eating she loves her food like mummy but still wants most of her milk.

Oh dear - we're all in the same boat! I am reluctant to reduce my twins milk feeds as they take so little as it is. I feed them solids at 11am and 5pm so can't be because it is too late. Can only hope their sleeping will get back on track when they get used to food in their tummies - be useful to know when this happens if anyone reading has been through it!

I know they still need most of their nutrition from milk, can't remember for sure, but I think they're meant to have a minimum 18oz per day even when being weaned. Otherwise, if you can hear them on the baby monitor, turn it off! I didn't use a baby monitor with my ds 'cos I figured if he really needed something, he'd yell loud enough to wake me up, but I wouldn't get disturbed by him grumbling. Wonder if this might just be a hazard of twins as my neighbour has mentioned has the same chatting between hers!!

I am having similar problems with my twins. They are 7 1/2 months and either one or both are waking about every 20 mins through certain parts of the night. After getting used to good nights, it is a bit hard to cope with. Luckily, they are not wide awake and popping their dummies back in gets them off again, but not for long!!
My dh and I have recently split the night in two, so my shift is first and he takes the second part of the night. At least that way we can get some sleep for part of the night. You have my sympathies glamourbadger. Hope their tummies sort themselves out soon. We also wondered about teething affecting their sleep and so are trying teething powders too. Hope this helps.

It made no difference feeding him earlier anyway!

Alfie has 1100ml of milk a day still, exactly the same as he had pre-BLW! He still wakes for a bottle in the night too!

I am despairing of ever sleeping again!

Blackalice - what are you feeding him for tea? If you feed him baby rice or some sort of carbohydrate, I think that can help them sleep. If you feed them veggies or fruit, I don't think it's very filling...

He doesn't have baby rice as we're doing BLW but he often has carbs like pasta or bread. It doesn't seem to make much difference unfortunately!

that happened to me last year when I weaned ds1- he virtually refused all daytime milk feeds from then on but woke once a night for a bottle. We tried everything- just cuddling him (he only screamed louder), bottle of warm water (refused),
leaving him to cry (he didn't stop), and if he fell asleep he would just wake up 20 minutes later unless he had the bottle of milk. So this happened once a night till he was 9 months when he suddenly just started sleeping through again.
I think I only ever gave him diluted formula at night. Don't know why this happened but it did sort itself out.
