My LO has been feed on a comfort formula since 8 weeks which he is happy on. It is nearly time to start weaning and am weighing up follow-on milk or continuing with the comfort feed which is suiting him.
Anyone have any experience of comfort v follow-on formula that they could share?

We never used comfort milk so no direct experience. But we did stick with first milk until a year, rather than switching to follow on. I figured as DS was happy with it, why change things?

Follow on milk isn't necessary as it really only exists because it can be advertised unlike first milk. (Not sure if it's true but I read that in countries that allow first milk to be advertised, follow on milk doesn't exist!) The only advantage to it is it can be cheaper as it can be included in offers, and you can earn reward points on it.

We stuck with the comfort formula, and just made the switch to cows milk when LO became one.

I have read that it can cause babies to poo 6/7 tones per day when combined with solids -did you experience this Amanda?

I didn't bother with comfort milk once we were well into weaning as I figured the food was doing the job of helping keep everything down instead. It wasn't a conscious decision, I think we just ran out and I didn't replace. Plus by then dd was off the Gaviscon/omeprazole so she had grown out of it. I don't know if that's useful advice of your DC is still suffering with reflux though.

I used follow on milk with DC1 but DC2 went from comfort >>normal milk at about 9/10months which thinking about it probably isn't guidelines!

Dd has been on comfort milk since 5 weeks old we are about a month in to weaning and have kept her on it, hv said to keep her on it for now as solis food is a big change so do 1 thing at a time, I'm pleased she's still on it to be honest as we've had a few episodes of constipation since starting food which would have probably been worse without it. It is fine to keep them on it until a year anyway if you wanted to.

Yes DS was on comfort milk for colic from around 4 weeks old. I didn't think to change his milk wen I started weaning. Then I went to the HV in a right state saying oh god he is pooing 7 times a day and she said, er, take him off the comfort milk! Apparently it's not intended for weaning babies? As soon as I swapped him back to normal first milk, his bowels stabilised again.
