Weaning

6 months - what next?

DS started weaning a couple of weeks ago - not keen on puree so I've given him finger food for the last 10 days. He has been very enthusiastic about veggie sticks (cooked & raw), and some cooked chicken & turkey breast.
So what next? I'd like him to eat what the family eats as much as possible (2 older kids so the fewer meals I have to cook the better obviously). Can I just let him eat what we eat now as long as I don't add salt/salty stock cubes? What about recipes including bacon?
I also see lots of people giving cheese, is that really OK? Isn't cheddar really salty?
I'm sure I should know all this, being on no 3, but I just can't remember from last time.
Thanks for your thoughts!

Yes, you can just give your food now. Just avoid honey and whole nuts, and as you say, don't add salt.

With the salt, it's just a case of being aware of what is salty and giving it in moderation. Bacon and cheese are salty but a bit now and again is OK. Babies generally eat very small quantities remember. I would just balance out saltier foods by not giving them every day and serving them alongside low salt foods.

I agree. Cheese is salty, but it's about balance in diet overall rather than individual foods. Smile

It helped me when I found out they can have 1g of salt a day. If I have a high cheese, bread, bacon, ham type day one day, I try to have a day with more straightforward veggies, yoghurt, pasta and tomato sauce etc to balance out the salt.
