DD is 24 weeks and totally bf, i half started giving her baby rice - a bit half-heartedly on both our parts, just a few spoonsful at lunchtimes. I started from a mixture of curiosity and advice from others as she started waking after sleeping through, and grabbing my food! She hasnt really taken much, more into grabbing the spoon and smearing rice on her face, and has only had about 8 of these feeds in total.

HV says i started too early but should carry on with lunchtime baby rice now i've started, but not increase amounts or start with purees yet.

Anyway my real question is - now i've started can i stop and restart a bit later, like in a few weeks time when she's officially 6 months?? We are going on holiday in 2 weeks time and i just think it will be a huge faff to take all equipt for the sake of one feed which is a bit of a "token" imo.

Has anyone else done this? Please don't shout at me i'm prepared to carry on if its best for her..!

You can stop at any time. She's unlikely to miss it. And to be honest, baby rice is disgusting, like wallpaper paste and food is more fun for babies anyway .

It doesn't really seem worth the hassle, IMO. Your dd is getting virtually nothing from the baby rice anyway, I would be more tempted to let her try a few bits from your plate when you're away on holiday, just see what she likes.

yes - i think you can. a friend of mine did this with her baby who just wasn't getting on with baby rice. she started again at 6 months.

you could try babyled weaning. no puréeing and baby feeds herself.

baby led weaning

We tried at 24 wks, thougt ds was interested and wanting it, seems he wasn;t so stopped ( at 25 wk) for now. He has a bit of biscuit and a cup drink of milk most days but thats it, will try him again on more conventional stuff at some point. For now he plays with a spoon and sits in high chair with us while we have breakfast.

Wartywarthog, you may have a convert to baby-lead weaning, thanks for the link. I've been looking at other posts on this and looks interesting, especially the comment that its weaning for slacker mums!! Its all new to me but once the initial novelty of pureeing and freezing etc is over i think it would be a major pain and baby-lead does seem more natural. One thing, theres a few mentions of a yahoo group, can you tell me how to access that?

i'm afraid i don't know how to use the yahoo group. wouldn't mind knowing myself. hopefully someone will be along who can tell us.

i've been doing blw for a month now and it's so easy. i can give her stuff off my plate, and whatever i cook for supper, i put aside for her the next day. she's had roast pork, chicken, lots of veggies and fruit. she gets so excited when i put her bib on, it's nice to see her enjoying her food!

don't worry if your dd doesn't seem to be eating anything initially, it's amazing how quickly they get the hang of it.

Of course you can stop and restart. DD is 7 months and really not interested so I've stop-started a couple of times. I'm now half heartedly continuong with it because I feel I should. I don't actually want to wean her as she's my lastso I'm glad she's not enthusiastic.

We started and stopped a few times, and dd kept getting colds, and went off food and milk completely. When we eventually got going, it went well.
