Weaning

What else can I give her?

Been weaning dd3 (nearly 6 months) for a couple of weeks now. So far she's had apple, banana, pear, carrot, broccoli, cauliflower and courgette (and those baby yogurts). Am desperately trying to think of other veges I can give her but I can't find anything in the shops other than sweet potato (I live in Holland where the choice is er, rather limited!). What other veges can I try her on?

Is she old enough for lentils now - I've got a couple of recipe books for weaning but they give conflicting advice re lentils - one says from 5 months, the other from 8 or 9 months.

Have you given her sweet potato?
Ist here any reson you shouldn't try other veg such as peas, green beans, roasted peppers (although some books say wait til a year as they are part of the deadly nightshade family along with potato and aubergine)
Can you get swede and parsnip? They were 2 early favourites of my children

Lentils definitely. Cook them with onion and garlic and whizz. Make loads and eat some yourself!

Went out searching for parsnip, swede/turnip today but there's nothing at all - either in the supermarkets or the fruit&veg stalls. Haven't tried the sweet potato yet, but will give it a go. Forgot about peas - have some in my freezer so will give them a go. I've been mixing up all the veges to give her a bit more variety but it all seems very boring!

Will get going with the lentils then - dds 1&2 loved lentils when there were teeny (couldn't get them near a plate now for love nor money!) Lentils were one of my favourite dishes to cook for them!

Get an organic veg box delivered - lovely seasonal stuff that hasn't been trekked halfway across the world.
Apple and beetroot go well together, you can add courgette to anything, broad beans can be pureed with onion, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil (v. popular with my youngest, and you can season it a bit more for a dip/spread.

I'd love to get that, but sadly they don't to that kind of thing in Holland. Far too civilised! I'm going into town today so I'll have a look to see what's around. Really disappointed at how limited the veg is out here!

What about pear and spinach mixed. Used to do that for DS but think I didn't find the combo until he was a bit older so you'd probably need to check spinach is fine now.

I used to make a soup out of courgette, pea and potato which was yummy - was from one of the weaning books.

DS loves sweetcorn - bought a big bag of frozen sweetcorn, cooked & then used to puree it with some of his milk.
