Poo gone very pale!

Sorry if it's TMI to talk about poo in such detail, but....

Since starting weaning dd (now 10mo)'s poo has been the usual technicolor and variety of consistency, depending on what she eats. About a week ago, she had two huge explosive poos of a very pale sandy/clay colour, very soft and mushy, copious amount and stank to high heaven! Since then, her poo has always been this sandy colour and extremely stinky, although not the large amount and not as soft.

She's normally a pretty good eater, but since this has also been really uninterested in her food too.

Is this just a normal variation or could she have an upset tummy? It seems to have been going in for a long time now! She seems otherwise well.

Sounds like she may be a tad unwell. I'd keep offering her solids, make sure she has her vitamins and as much formula/bfs as she wants.

Just one more thought, is she on follow on milk? If so, you might want to change her back to first milk for a bit and see if that helps.

Thanks Jilted. No she's only on breast milk. Poo today was white Shock But then she had a slightly more normal one this evening, so am going to see of that means it's clearing put of her system - whatever it is. If no improve the in the next few days, I guess we should see someone Hmm

If she's having little solids and more milk could the poo be just more like a ebf baby poo?

No it's definitely not like ebf poo - I wish!! It's a really strange pale colour and oh my god how it stinks! Actually, it looks like houmous in colour and consistency.... Bet that's stopped you reaching for the crudités and dips hey?!

Is her urine dark? As in brown in colour?

Is her skin colour normal?

Has she been very windy/farty?

You said she seems otherwise fine - that's obviously good, but I'd have her checked out by your GP. Take a stool sample/dirty nappy along too.
Some fat absorption problems can cause foul smelling, pale stools (and usually absolutely lethal farts), an obstruction of liver juices can lead to pale stool, but you'd have a pretty ill child on your hands (and dark brown wee). It could be a simple tummy bug.

This is not one to 'diagnose' here - get her seen in the next few days.

Skin and wee normal, but yes quite a lot of fairly toxic wind. Hmmmmm. I'm inclined to think it's a tummy bug as both DH and I have have a vomiting bug in the past 10 days. But if poo hasn't returned to normal in the next couple of days I'll get her checked out.
Thanks.

Ah, well, if you've not been well either, that's quite likely it with her too. And a baby's tummy can respond quite differently to the same bug than a more mature adult's stomach.

Maybe reduce fats in her solids a bit and see if it makes a difference? Carry on BFing obviously.
