Help, baby is constipated.

I use my mum remedy when mine are constipated: I boil an apple (peeled and corked) in a little bit of water with a tiny little bit of sugar and a splash of lemon juice until is soft. I then mash the apple (when is warm but not old) and give it to the kids: it usually works in a couple of hours.

If it is me or my husband we add some cognac, but that's for grown up only...

Diluted orange juice helps here too

Thanks for all the replies and advice, he's 6 months, doesn't really have banana, he eats mainly veg and fruit. Finally went yesterday late morning but nothing again since, maybe he's going to be a once every 1-2 days baby. We're going swimming today so knowing my luck he'll unload in the pool. grin

I sorted out myfive week old with 1oz oj in 5oz warm water (hD been boiled obvs). He took a few sips only....an hour later bingo! My doctir said its not a great solution though as it can react with the milk. For me, it was the answer...i was pretty desperate.

Second the suggestion of kiwi. Also diluted prune or orange juice. FWIW, DD is 7 months and poos anywhere from 3 times a day to every 3 days

both my DS have been prone to this problem and kiwi seems to sort them both out!

How old is your DS? My DD is rather prone to it, when I first started to wean her and she got constipated I cut down on solids, up her milk and gave her baby fruit juice and water on top. Now we are a bit further down the line I make sure she has fruit and yogurt each day and offer water or juice as well as her milk.

I also avoid things with banana in as that seems to be a trigger.

O and bowel patterns can change both ways - my DD went from pooing every 3 days! to every other nappy!

I'll try all these things, thanks smile

A bottle of boiled, cooled (but still warm) water?

Agree avoid banana, it's dreadful for bunging up.

I used to give mine a dried fruit compote (boil up dried apricot, prune, apple and pear in a little water til soft and blend). You can give this as it is or add it to yogurt.

My hv told me to give my baby orange juice (diluted with water if need be) to move things along as she was always bunged up - especially when travelling for some reason!?!

Ugh, getting in with my GP is a mission in itself, how long is it advisable to wait before seeing someone?

Posted too soon. Meant to add that if he's really uncomfortable your GP can give you something to shift things along. Dd1 had a big bottle of oily stuff when she was little that sorted her out revoltingly in no time.

Pear is good for getting things moving, and prunes and apples to a lesser extent. Avoid banana for a few days that tends to have the opposite effect. It's quite normal for their system to take a while to settle once you start weaning.

My baby hasn't pooed in 2 days, he usually goes several times a day but since starting weaning he can't seem to cope with the solid poos. He seems to be in discomfort with it, I have massaged his tummy and cycled his legs and put him in a warm bath, is there anything else I can do to help get out the backlog?
