Thank you all. Will see how we get on...

We didn't buy anything special for ds! He uses a small mug for drinks, ordinary teaspoon, normal plates etc. no issues with throwing food though, maybe I would have given him a plastic plate if there was a chance I'd get a pottery injury, it just never occurred to us to buy specific stuff.

Our dd was a total spoon refuser so we just used a sippy cup and some long sleeved bibs.

I've weaned 2, one with purees and one with finger foods. The finger foods are just so much easier. Have a look here.

Have you read the MN page on weaning too?

A sippy cup, cheap tommmee tippee ones are all I ever used.

And relax, they will make a mess, remember food is for fun until one, just let them try a variety of foods and dotn stress.

Cutlery, yes plastic spoons or just teaspoons.

The bowls with suction are crap! Just some plastic bowls/plates.

Plastic sheet or shower curtain! But I never used one I have laminate floor in dining rm so its easy to clean anyway.

Bibs yes, IKEA do good ones that are cheap or just feed baby wear I g just a nappy.

Flexible ice cube trays or little tubs for freezing if you do purees. If you wait til 6mths you don't need to puree everything they can eat what you eat, mash with a fork if necessary smile

Ok, so I'm beginning to prepare myself mentally for the quite frightening idea of weaning my son and feel I probably ought to start preparing physically too. Any suggestions for what I'll need and best types/makes?

What I think I'll need is:

cutlery - just shallow spoons?

bowls - do I need the sort that stick to the table/high chair tray?

some sort of plastic sheeting to cover everything within a 10m radius of the high chair - any suggestions of best place to source this?

full body bib for the little man - and probably one for me too...

ice cube type trays for freezing mush in

Anything else?
