Weaning

What did your baby actually eat today?

I thought it might be interesting, and also hopefully inspirational for those of us who might feel we're making the same things regularly! So, what did your baby - 6m to 18m, any age that still has some milk and might be playing around with weaning - actually eat today?

12mo DD had...

4oz formula when she woke up
A bowl of Shreddies and the rest of the formula (2oz) for breakfast
Some sultanas is mid-morning
Chicken and lentil stew and some tinned mandarin segments for lunch
A considerable amount of Pizza Express pizza crust to keep her distracted while we ate Blush - my parents were over and food always seems to go downhill when they are here, plus it did at least keep her amused
4oz milk before her nap
A banana when she woke up
A pile of plain cauliflower and broccoli, a kiwi, and a fromage frais for dinner
Then it will be 6oz of formula before bed

Anyone else wants to share?

Dd is 7.5 months and had:

BF at 3:30

BF when woke

A couple of spoonfuls of Readybrek and a quarter of apple

BF when woke after nap

Pasta tubes with Philadelphia and spinach - about 5 tubes and lots of spinach
Kiwi and apple purée mixed with yoghurt - lots of spoonfuls!

BF when woke after nap

Tomato and cauliflower curry (about 2 tablespoons worth), rice balls (2) and strips of spiced lamb (2)
5 strawberries (first time she'd had them - went down a treat!)

She'll now have a BF before bed and another around 11:30

DS 9 months (7m corrected) had:

  • A few spoonfuls of porridge with fruit purée (reluctantly)
  • Spinach, leek and pea purée, and some sticks of pear
  • Two fingers of pitta with houmous

Plus bf, which I don't really keep a track of.

Not a great food day, but not unusual for him.

Tea, DD used to be like that, she would get through the day with a yoghurt and a few crusts and that was it. It's tough to stay relaxed sometimes, isn't it? Now I can't get enough in her some days.

Blushing - tomato and cauliflower curry sounds nice, I'd eat that as well as DD - any chance of a recipe (for a very poor cook!) or a link to it?

Nelly I know Confused I keep telling myself that it is ok as he is still having plenty of bf.
I could probably shovel more into him (literally Grin) if I stuck with purées, but I wanted to encourage him to try and feed himself - up until this week he has insisted I hold everything for him while he sits there like a roman emperor, but all of a sudden he is getting the idea! Unfortunately this means he now wants to be in everything, resulting in weetabix and yoghurt being flung all over the room - thankfully finger food is a bit less messy!

I'm actually quite reassured by how small some of these portions are - sometimes I read the weaning threads and think that my 12mo doesn't eat enough solid food and still likes her milk a lot, but it seems everyone else does!

And I like that fact that other people have bad days and clear out the fridge Grin DD's veg tonight was frozen veg...

DD 11 months

7am - 2-3oz formula
8am - 1 weetabix with frozen mixed berries (defrosted, obviously) and cow's milk. Slice of toast with peanut butter
10am - Nice biscuit
12pm - peach. 1/2 jar of pasta based 10month+ baby food. Fromage Frais.
1pm - 2-3oz formula
4pm - little taste of cake
5.30pm - 1 tomato plus little bits of cheese. 2 icecubes spag bol. Shared fat free yoghurt (out of other suitable desserts!)
6.30pm - 2-3oz formula then bed.

She's really been cutting back on her milky recently but can eat a lot (this was a relatively light day). She also has a cup of water with each meal (not unusual for her to finish this) and is also offered water throughout the day.

I've always been of the view that if they're hungry, they'll let you know. We did BLW from 6 months and dd eats most things. If she doesn't want it, we know about it Smile if she's hungry, we know about it Grin.

Anyone worrying about food intake really should just trust their instincts and their dc's choices about food. Unless there is a weight gain issue, live and let live.

My post earlier is a typical day, but some days dd eats less, other days shit loads more- I trust her to communicate to me when she's hungry and when she's full ("no, no, no"...!)

FadBook,I'll agree about them letting know if they are hungry.Sometimes I question myself whether DS has had enough/too much of something.I'm a bit sad that BF is on decrease in our case but I can't ignore DS ogling our plates and trying to grab something.

DTs are 14 mo
Today they had
830am 5oz cows milk on waking
930am 1 weetabix each with apples and strawberries, and 1/2 slice toast with marmite each
11-1pm nap
130pm salmon, boiled egg, new potatoes and lentils (a bit of a random combination, we had salmon nicoise salad but they're not lettuce eaters!) with blueberries afterwards
330pm a few corn snacks after swimming
4-5 pm nap
530pm lamb hot pot with red cabbage and a yoghurt
730pm 8oz milk
Not many snacks today, as at weekends their naps are all up the wall and never seems time to fit any more food in!

Portion wise, they eat about 1 adult portion between them for each meal. They have hollow legs, especially my 9th centile DD who eats for England

ceeveebee, we always say DD has hollow legs too as she is little but eats and eats!

When I say I find it all reassuring it's because I've always tried to let DD lead the way with weaning (eg we started at 4 months because I felt she was ready) but almost worry about not being worried, if that makes sense! I think she's getting all she needs but I often let her take charge and (attempt to) feed herself, which she loves - it all seems to go down eventually anyway!
