Weaning

constipation in 5 month old

have been on solids now for about 3 weeks
at same time, moved country and are on new formula
baby VERY constipated
any suggested for what i can give her to help her out, as i have no option but to continue giving her the new formula, and i can't stop giving her solids as she very hungry and has started rejecting the bottle and looking for the spoon !!!

Lots and lots of cooled boiled water. It's probably the solids that have constipated her, not the formula.

Sorry... in a mad hurry... but PRUNE JUICE!! Fresh from fresh prunes and orally syringed in if nec. Will work the same say! (probably...)

Also fresh orange if prune unavailable. They say 1 part oj to 10 parts water but I would go a bit stronger, personally.

Yep, prune juice or pureed prunes work a treat. Don't give too much though, and be prepared for quite a lot of tarry looking nappies. I think a lot of babies go through this in their first few weeks of solids so don't worry too much. Time and the prunes will work it out! Grin

Juice from stewing fruit like apple and pear diluted a bit or weak diluted orange juice.

Pure orange juice, just one teaspoon in two ounces of previously boiled water. This worked for us, but you can increase it slightly if necessary.

My friend heard about putting 1/3 a teaspoon of brown sugar in her babies bottle and it worked a treat.

Loads of watery fruit puress could help as well maybe.
