Weaning

We give DS 'real' food instead of baby food because we either can't afford it or can't be bothered ...

...or so my DH heard a woman in Ikea explain to her son as I dipped my bread into my soup and gave it to DS. She concluded that because the pushchair we had looked expensive enough, then it must be that we come into the 'can't be bothered' camp... I didn't hear this exchange or I would have agreed that I was only breastfeeding him because I couldn't be bothered with bottles...

So, you BLWers out there - consider yourself told!

PMSL

See, this backs up my point with the "Babies are a different species, we have to give them jars because Cow and Gate say so" brigade.

Isn't it brilliant to hear people displaying their ignorance!Grin

your poor ds - obviously destined for a life of delinquincy (sp) because of your slack parenting and the fact you failed to buy baby food...Grin

I think "can't be bothered" is a perfectly good reason to do something. Or not do something. Whichever.

I can't be bothered to get up off my fat lazy arse and make a bottle especially at night. Honest! I know breast is suppposed to be best but honestly I don't particularily enjoy it and here I am at 14mths and still going strong.

lol drosphila my words exactly.

I wanted to give up breastfeeding at 6 months but honestly could not be bothered to sort out the bottle stuff every day. Also dropping bfeeding seemed so complicated ie. - 'replace one feed every few weeks with a bottle' but ds didn't have regular times for his milk feeds so I could never work out if I had dropped a feed or not as one day he had 7 feeds another 4. Sometimes he fed before a nap sometimes after etc. It was easier to let him drop down in feeds as he wanted to and eventually I found us feeding less often each day and when I went back to work it is easier to keep doing it a couple of times a day. Still bfeeding at 16 months and I have to say a great deal of it is down to laziness but then you can tell that I don't think of that as a insult Grin

Love the idea that feeding jar food to babies really involves a lot of effort on our part! Grin
