DS is 11 months now and eats absolutely feck all. Yesterday he ate a yogurt and a biscuit. This is fairly typical. Just wants milk all the time. We're in this vicious circle of too much milk = no solids = hungry in the night = too much milk.

Still has 5 or 6 8oz bottles a day, at least two in the night, refuses food and screams for milk. He's just not interested. Doing a mix of spoon feeding and letting him feed himself. Often starts well - two or three enthusiastic mouthfuls of porridge at breakfast this morning, then refusing anything more. This is 2 hours after his first bottle though, so surely it can't be that he's too full of milk to be hungry for breakfast?? This seems to be his usual pattern - same with toast - perfectly capable of feeding it to himself but just not interested. Can't find much he does like, but yogurt usually gets eaten.

This is really getting to me now - we've never had a decent night's sleep out of him yet and we're knackered. All eat as a family so he sees us and DD (4) eating. HV has been rubbish - simply said that if he carries on like this (ie so much milk) then he'll be an obese toddler - wow, thanks for constructive advice there #completenumpty Please, does anyone have any tips? Thanks smile

Sorry, no tips, but my DD who just turned 1 barely ate anything at 11 months. We did BLW. For breakfast she often had 1 or 2 mouthfuls, same for lunch, but sometimes nothing & ate a bit better in the evening. In the last 2 weeks she suddenly found her appetite. This morning she had 2 cocktail sausages, 2 big strawberries, a soldier of cheesy toast & most of a fromage frais. She's still a bit of a milk monster too.
I'd suggest sticking with finger foods & giving him a bit more time. It is hard when everything gets thrown straight onto the floor without even being tasted though.

Ah, I had this with dd1. Can't remember details but interested in responses in case I get this with dd2! Fwiw dd1 eats normally now at 3.

DD only started eating anything more than you described at 15 months. I was becoming concerned she would never eat solids. She does eat now but still has milk at snack times (breastfed so not sure how much) and if she wakes in the night.

I would say keep trying, I think it is a developmental thing they reach when they are ready. One day soon he will eat a bit more solid food and not wail when you offer him a few less oz of milk.

Until then you have my sympathy!

I think it's still early days. Some kids just take longer with the transition to solids than others. If you get some success with your baby feeding themselves just encourage this with lots of different choice. Don't concentrate on how much they are actually swallowing, just that they are getting used to solid food. Your DC will begin to eat more and more over time. I know the advice is to give solids before a milk feed, but sometimes mine were so hungry i got better results giving a milk feed first.

My dd was like this a few months ago. What worked for us was offering food before milk - e.g cereal first thing in the morning rather than milk straightaway. I also cut down on offering milk from 5 times a day to 3.
