Watch House of Cards Series 2 with Mumsnet and you could win an Xbox One (possible spoiler warning!)

After Mumsnetters enjoyed the first series so much, we’re excited to announce that the second series of House of Cards is the next show we’ll be watching and discussing on Watch with Mumsnet, in association with Netflix.

For those who’ve yet to succumb, award winning drama House of Cards follows cunning Congressman Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) on his quest for power, aided by his equally conniving wife, Claire (Robin Wright). Both Season 1 & 2 are available to watch on Netflix instantly.

Here’s what Mumsnetters have been saying about the show so far:

"Best thing I've seen for ages”

"I haven't enjoyed a series so much since The West Wing"

“ I was a bit unsure about this as I loved the original but it is amazing! I watched the whole lot in a Netflix weekend mega marathon and I highly recommend it. I really hope they put out a second series, it is quality viewing”

If you've been wondering what to watch to get you through the dreary winter months then look no further. Better yet, you can watch it on Netflix whenever you want: binge on the whole series in one go or just catch it whenever's handy. And then, of course, you can come back and join the discussion on the show with everyone else on this thread. Everyone who takes part will be entered into a draw to win an Xbox One.

Whether you’ve watched the first series, or you’re new to House of Cards, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Happy watching,

Watch with Mumsnet is sponsored by Netflix.

Kevin Spacey is great smile

HettiePetal Fri 14-Feb-14 17:05:03

Can we talk about it while we're watching then? Should we have a spoiler alert?

I am watching the final one of the last series tonight to remind me of where we're at - before settling down for a binge this weekend.

Tawnyfawny Fri 14-Feb-14 20:07:10

Ooh great! Watched the first series and just about to sit down and watch the next one tonight (well as much as we can in one night!). Will update later!

AmpersandRea Sat 15-Feb-14 13:48:51

We watched the first episode of season 2 last night. Oh My Goodness!
I want to watch the rest of the episodes in one marathon session, DH wants to eke them out.

HettiePetal Sat 15-Feb-14 14:07:10

I'm on ep 5 now. Finding this series more gripping than the first.

Agree with Ampers.....shock for episode one!

impatienceisavirtue Sat 15-Feb-14 18:14:17

The thing we were BOTH looking forward to about Valentine's Day? The inevitable House of Cards binge.

Episode 1 - if you've seen it, you'll know the bit I mean and if not, I won't ruin it for you - but we actually had to rewind and watch again as we couldn't believe it had actually just happened!

We got to episode 3 before we begrudgingly called it a night. Neither DH nor I are usually TV watchers, but House of Cards has us both hooked. Fantastically written and acted and very gripping. Worth the Netflix subscription alone.

AmpersandRea Sat 15-Feb-14 20:11:23

Dh has fallen asleep, so no chance of seeing episode 2 tonight ... grrr

Hessy Sat 15-Feb-14 20:20:27

I'm just SO delighted I didn't know about the major thing that happens in S2 Ep1! Not sure how that didn't get out. Total shock. Loved it.

Please hurry up with Orange is the New Black new series!!!

AmpersandRea Sat 15-Feb-14 20:23:06

And, the aforementioned DH has read what happens in the last ep of S2. If he lets it slip I will not be held responsible for my actions.

marjolaine Sat 15-Feb-14 20:43:56

I LOVE House of Cards! What a brilliant show! It's got great acting and a great script; it's so good that I stop doing anything else to watch (rare for me, I usually MN while DH watches tv/films). I've been so excited for the new season. I totally agree about the major thing in episode 1 someone mentioned above-- OMG!! Stuff like that is why I love this show.

DH and I are watch-when-we-can types, due to children and house and work but my mother and her DH stay up all night and watch in one go. I love that Netflix allows that.

SaltySeaBird Sat 15-Feb-14 22:10:01

We haven't finished watching series 1 yet but DH is enjoying it more than me, if he wasn't waiting for me to catch up I'm sure he would be on series 2 already.

I like Kevin Spacey but this isn't my style of show.

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza Sun 16-Feb-14 01:14:09

Halfway through series 2 now.

Kevin Spacey never did anything for me before this but there's something about the way he keeps murdering people him in this, he is well fit!

Jcee Sun 16-Feb-14 08:22:08

We started watching on Friday saying 'we'll just watch one, see how it is' and then watched 2 episodes back to back!

So gripping and brilliant as ever...totally unprepared for the episode 1 shocker but loved it!

We then had a massive argument discussion about binge watching or rationing them to 2 week. We're trying to do the latter but I don't know if we have the willpower...

Domaby Sun 16-Feb-14 14:50:06

We watched the first two episodes of series 2 yesterday and will watch another today. It's my favourite programme and I've really been looking forward to the new series. I also didn't see the episode 1 shock coming!

Isthiscorrect Sun 16-Feb-14 14:51:02

DH, me and Ds (18) are glued to this and we have a team decision to watch only one episode a day with 2 on weekends. We were smacked of the gob with S2 ep1! Unbelievable (well no, believable) but my word what a shocker.
Episode 3 tonight whilst we are having dinner, bad form I know but we dont have enough time to sit down for dinner and then to watch House of Cards. I'm so excited blush.

GoEasyPudding Sun 16-Feb-14 16:42:32

ok ok, a new House of Cards? This means I can re join now.

I have been away from Netflix for a few months, just as a break, (easy to do by the way) and now I shall sign up again.

My inappropriate crush on Kevin Spacy can now continue...and my giggling at Robin Wrights quiet, thoughtful and calculating faraway look can also continue.

mjmooseface Mon 17-Feb-14 11:44:47

I love that the second series carried on exactly where the first series left off! And what a shocker in that first episode! I don't want to give anything away in case people haven't started watching it yet but they certainly kicked the second series off with a bang! The dialogue is brilliantly written with the best actors for the roles and I love how the show is shot. Stunning viewing!

cozitsme Mon 17-Feb-14 16:34:08

I have not watched this yet but judging by the comments this is getting below, I think it will be definitely be added to my list (just as soon as I have caught up with Suits)

Tregurthabird Mon 17-Feb-14 16:38:06

I need to get with the programme and watch some of this series! It looks pretty entertaining and I do love a good serial smile

Tortoise Mon 17-Feb-14 16:38:09

Enjoyed the first series, not had a chance to watch any of the second series yet.

weenwee Mon 17-Feb-14 16:38:30

PLEASE someone tell me they are at Clare's live interview ("Chapter 17"), so we can discuss it, because OH MAH GOODNESS I'm not going to drop spoilers but ARE YOU EVEN OMG OMG OMG.

Mumsnet, we need two threads, one for spoilers, one without, because I CANNOT KEEP THIS IN FOR MUCH LONGER!!!

EnidB Mon 17-Feb-14 16:38:35

Not sure I can cope with a binge, this sounds seriously addictive!

donnadwxm78 Mon 17-Feb-14 16:40:15

eeeek were settling down to start watching the 1st series tonight and we cant wait, hope it lives up to the hype !

toniuk Mon 17-Feb-14 16:48:13

no school this week so binge ahoy

hoogervaaner Mon 17-Feb-14 16:53:39

I watched series 2 on Valentine's day, in one sitting, accompanied by a bottle of pink Champagne, I have honestly never enjoyed Valentine's Day more! Series 2 is fantastic, so gripping, great plot twists and Kevin Spacey is mesmerising. Finding out more about Claire's earlier life gives her character more depth and leads to a better understanding of how she and Frank operate together. Fab, fab, fab, I don't hesitate to recommend it.

FrankUnderwood Mon 17-Feb-14 16:59:54

Just popping in to do a twirl. I'm on Season 1 Episode 3 - so I'll have to drop out of this thread again, before it fills up with spoilers.

angell74 Mon 17-Feb-14 17:01:18

Not sure how I have missed this. I feel an ironing binge in front of the TV coming on ........

PSG1968 Mon 17-Feb-14 17:01:54

Ooooh this series looks good will have to try & catch up with it feels like I've missed out!!!

Bluecarrot Mon 17-Feb-14 17:10:26

Had planned to watch this show after we finished breaking bad but now I've read your reviews I think I might start now!

Sheilamay Mon 17-Feb-14 17:12:57

Trying not to binge watch all the episodes at once! On episode 2 now. Not surprised what he did to Zoe!

mawihtec Mon 17-Feb-14 17:21:05

watched the first season it was good but really not getting into this second season at all ducks for cover behind sofa that being said Kevin plays his role very well
must say i was the same with
breaking bad
season 1 woohoo
season 2 meh okay
season 3 omg yawn
season 4 gave up

hnl Mon 17-Feb-14 17:24:10

Just started the second series, what a stunning opening episode! May have to lock my little darling in the garage for half term (with Lego and Fruit Shoots, am not totally neglectful!) so I can binge!

sandramae Mon 17-Feb-14 17:26:38

Watched the 1st and 2nd series so far and its great, really love Kevin Spacey too!! I'm not going to read any of the comments because it will spoil it, I prefer to watch it smile Lol

Iamaslummymummy Mon 17-Feb-14 17:27:34

I need to catch up. I'm still on season 1!

shirlz51 Mon 17-Feb-14 17:32:06

this is really entertaining, which is a good change lately

katiewalters Mon 17-Feb-14 17:33:06

I watched the first series too, and loved it. The first episode of the 2nd series was a very good one, a great start to the series. I meet up with friends each week for a coffee after playgroup with our babies, and we always discuss it.

bloosn Mon 17-Feb-14 17:58:34

I still have the original UK version recorded to watch!

PeanutButterOnly Mon 17-Feb-14 17:59:35

Can't wait to watch this, have to catch up with season 1 first! I love Netflix but usually my DD has to remind me how to access it via Virgin!

mindingalongtime Mon 17-Feb-14 18:04:03

Totally addicted, I have never watched so much TV in my life!

amaradnas Mon 17-Feb-14 18:05:26

It's a powerful drama keeping me glued to the screen!

lucyrobinson Mon 17-Feb-14 18:10:02

Ooh just signed up for netflix yesterday. Never heard of House of cards. It sounds really good. Now think my evenings are mapped out this week.

Lotkinsgonecurly Mon 17-Feb-14 18:14:26

It's amazin I'm halfway through the second series. Brilliant writing lots of plot twists....Amazing!!

PsychicPaper Mon 17-Feb-14 18:14:54

Wow, loving it.

We were looking for something to fil the breaking bad shaped hole in our evenings and this is it!

I loved the original, but this is even better

ILoveMyCaravan Mon 17-Feb-14 18:16:12

Not heard of this series, so will be asking DS1 to set it up for me on Netflix which we signed up for a few months ago, but which I've still not managed to work out how to do it myself!

Surely spoilers are allowed if they ask as to disguss? Kevin Spacey is great actor ;)

I have only watched episode one so far but jeepers episode one was eye opening!
DH and I have been in disagreement over which Underwood is worse. He believes Frank is the source of the evil but I think it is Claire, with her glacial attitude and Lady Macbeth behaviour. They are both so glossily malign.
I have convinced myself that Claire wears more and more black as she becomes more vile so I'm interested to see if this is deliberate.

Delighted this series is back. I love it.

pixxie10 Mon 17-Feb-14 21:08:06

This sounds absolutely amazing ! Def going to watch it now but I easily get addicted to things so prob won't get much work done once I start watching !

RightRoyalPainInTheArse Mon 17-Feb-14 21:12:14

Just started on series two, excellent start but won't put any spoilers. Noticed a new Orange is the new black is coming in June, looking forward to that. Have maintained my sub just for these two series. You took S1's Dinosaur film offline though.

Puppypoppet Mon 17-Feb-14 22:00:48

Loved the original so can't wait to watch this. Kevin Spacey is a great actor. Adds to wish list.

Lent1l Mon 17-Feb-14 22:13:37

I'm still torn about this show. The actors are great and it is really well written, I'm just not used to watching something where I don't actually like many of the characters and don't think I'm actually supposed to as they are generally not very nice people. Really enjoying it but just find it strange not to like many of them.

katyspence Mon 17-Feb-14 22:38:42

I LOVED the first episode! Looking forward to enjoying the rest with a quiet night and a glass of wine this week!

traceyalice Mon 17-Feb-14 22:52:52 going to sign up and watch this. Been looking for a new series to watch as NOTHING on tv currently that appeals!

lessonsintightropes Tue 18-Feb-14 00:47:30

Boxsetted the entire series this weekend grin it was amazing, and I love Claire Underwood's Lady Macbeth style character. Tell me when we're allowed to discuss the whole thing without spoiler warnings!

joey99 Tue 18-Feb-14 05:43:37

I watched 1st 2 episodes of series 2 last night and wow! Straight in there with a high drama episode 1 to get you re- hooked. I love the characters and the acting is superb. I'm going to try and watch 2 episodes a night - can't wait for tonight!

ScienceRocks Tue 18-Feb-14 10:06:03

I'm with others on series 2 - episode 1 had me shock. Every bit as compelling as series 1 (I'm up to episode 5) and fantastic to be able to gorge and watch episode after episode and not wait a week each time!

PatriciaHolm Tue 18-Feb-14 11:08:46

Lent, I'm the same. I want to like it, and on a dispassionate level can see how fabulous the stars are (Robin Wright is spectacular) but I don't like or empathise with any of them which makes it hard to maintain the interest. The first ep didn't surprise me as much as it seems to have shocked American viewers as it obviously mirrors very much what happened in the original UK series, though I think it diverges more from here...

dotty2 Tue 18-Feb-14 11:19:15

Our broadband stopped working on Feb 14th - what terrible timing. I am enjoying it so far (only done 2 episodes) but can't help thinking that the scheming is slightly more cartoon-evil-villain-ish than in the first series.

wittymacs Tue 18-Feb-14 11:33:07

I haven't watched House of Cards yet but it does sound good so I must make an effort to watch it smile

juebloggs Tue 18-Feb-14 12:07:13

Loved the first series, have been eagerly awaiting this............
What a shocker in episode one! Have been trying to spread this out, but DP and I stayed up tip 2.45am on Sat night watching episodes back to back, it's too addictive! Now over half way through the series and will have to slow down - the downside of binge TV is the withdrawal symptoms when you reach the end. sad
Noticed that episodes have different directors - one we watched last night was directed by Jodie Foster.

lizd31 Tue 18-Feb-14 12:54:59

I haven't watched series 2 yet but loved series 1 so can't wait to see the brilliant new series

GarryFlo Tue 18-Feb-14 14:00:28

Its West Wing with b**ls, but although I'm only a third of the way through series one its still lacking that emotional bite. Still from what I've read patience will reward me.

impatienceisavirtue Tue 18-Feb-14 14:02:10

I'm up to episode 5 as well.

I am so proud of us for our restraint!!!!

Lucas is just irritating. Most boring character on the show.

Oh noo, just glimpsed upthread and realised everyone else is no spoilering. Have reported self to mnet and hopefully they'll delete the post soon. Sorry!

Korny1 Tue 18-Feb-14 21:54:14

Worth a watch..weekend cancelled!

Lloydy100 Tue 18-Feb-14 21:58:40

Like 'Breaking Bad', I did find watching the first season quite stressful, which I wasn't always in the mood for when feeling sleep deprived with a newborn, but I did enjoy it. I'm looking forward to pushing on through with series two. It's no West Wing, but it's certainly entertaining and Kevin Spacey is brilliant.

GretaWolfcastle Tue 18-Feb-14 21:59:11

sorry but its really NOT as good as series one - in parts quite dull

GretaWolfcastle Tue 18-Feb-14 21:59:43

too much politics

too much voting shit

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret Wed 19-Feb-14 09:51:00

Hooray, they cancelled my spoiler post, two episodes in I'm really enjoying it. I thought the ... event in episode one was brilliant: really audacious piece of tv. I think Spacey and Penn are superb, utterly unpleasant yet still managing to (just) keep you onside, and Claire's wardrobe makes me want to chuck everything out and dress only in cream shift dresses (yeah, right). Slightly underwhelmed by the Claire back story plotline, it seems a little bit of a cliche to me, but I am ready to be convinced. Hooray, February's suddenly brightened up!

tobiasfunke Wed 19-Feb-14 12:28:30

I watched S2 Ep1 last night and really enjoyed it. I could've done with a recap as it had been so long since we watched the first series. We spent half the time pausing it to try and work out who had done what to who and why. I loved it when Kevin Spacey talked to the camera suddenly. I always find it a little unnerving - which is good. We are sticking with one episode a night as apart from Hell on Wheels once a week we haven't anything else to watch at the moment.

OOh, excellent...I've been looking for a good boxset to get me through the newborn sleepless nights that are approaching (36 weeks today, yipee). Think I'll start early in the name of research and watch episode 1 this afternoon (lazy Mum alert)

cheekylittledevil Wed 19-Feb-14 12:49:30

I watched the original version eons ago and loved it. We're waiting to get some fancy tv box thing that DH has his eyes on and then we'll be able to get Netflix on the TV rather than watch it on the PC. Can't wait as I love Kevin Spacey.

Llareggub Wed 19-Feb-14 14:31:42

Please can we talk about it now?

I hadn't heard of this show but when I mentioned it to DH he said he was really keen to watch it, so we'll start this weekend. It looks really good so we may have a bit of a House of Cards marathon going on.

Kevin Spacey is great and I can just imagine him in this kind of role so I am very keen.

rodcornaby Wed 19-Feb-14 19:57:37

Kevin Spacey on form as always :D

GretaWolfcastle Wed 19-Feb-14 22:27:05

I love politics. Just this is dull.

The threesome! Oh my actual God that was a surprise! And a huge open ended thread at the end! I watched the entire second series in 2 nights and it has been responsible for some exhausted and shabby parenting ever since.

impatienceisavirtue Thu 20-Feb-14 20:52:10

It is all getting a bit messy for Frank isn't it!

MrsLoada Thu 20-Feb-14 21:40:38

Not seen this yet, looks like it's a must see from all the comments not sure how I've managed to miss it so far

House of Cards is very good, I'm enjoying it a lot but...I'm afraid I have been distracted by Breaking Bad! I didn't expect to like it but it's really, really good! Thanks Mumsnetters for the recommendation and Netflix for having it. We are loving Netflix this time round. I cancelled after the free trial last time because of rural broadband issues but got it sorted and am recommending Netflix to all my friends.

Now if I could just get DD1 out of her room...

aristocat Thu 20-Feb-14 21:52:38

I loved Season 1 so have high hopes for this smile I have almost watched all of S2 and it is brilliant yet again.

I loved the original HoC but Kevin Spacey is so diplomatic and devious he really steals the show.

Carriecakes Thu 20-Feb-14 22:04:37

I love love love love Kevin Spacey! Only actor I can bear watching :-) I actually had to lol at GoEasyPuddings comment on giggling at Robin Wrights Far-Away dreamy look, me and hubby play drinking games with this! lol Brilliant so far!!! <3

burwellmum Thu 20-Feb-14 22:39:47

Still recovering from the shock of episode 1. Looking forward to indulging in the rest of the season over the weekend as an alternative to endless rugby. Who would want to be a politician...

MrFMercury Thu 20-Feb-14 22:54:33

Just finished season 2 tonight. Loved it, was totally shocked at least twice which is a rare thing on TV these days but I did find some of the politics difficult to follow.

Little bit less in love with KevSpac now.

impatienceisavirtue Sat 22-Feb-14 07:35:22

Watched episode 24 last night.

I knew they were manipulating him intosomething - that's what they do, after all - but I really did NOT see that one coming.

NowWhatIsit Sat 22-Feb-14 19:51:10

Hooray we have upgraded and now Netflix actually works ! So exciting. Now I see what everyone's been on about.

Ubik1 Sat 22-Feb-14 19:55:17

It is amazing but I really think it's Spacey that makes this something special.

TalkieToaster Sat 22-Feb-14 21:40:01

I've just finished watching season 1 (and scrolled to the bottom of this thread very very quickly) and now I'm about to start the first episode of season 2. I can't believe how good this show is and how quickly it drew me in.

clangermum Sun 23-Feb-14 13:53:41

Great opening. My only problem with watching this way is feeling we can't talk plot specifics because everyone's at different stages, whereas with weekly series I got used to logging on to discussions about previous night's episode, or stayed off if I'd recorded to watch later. I do love the control though.

I'd noticed the Claire gaze too. Did she suddenly decide against the big life changing step after seeing the news and realising what was behind the opening shocker? (See what I mean, trying to be vague enough not to spoil anything)

clangermum Sun 23-Feb-14 13:55:53

I like the talking to camera too, and the 'did you think I'd forgotten you?'

Clayhead Mon 24-Feb-14 08:39:32

Finished series two...loved it.

I am a HUGE fan of the original BBC version and I love the fact that I can see enough parallels to link the two together and yet the new version is still so original. Don't want to go into specifics now!

Bring on series three!

tobiasfunke Mon 24-Feb-14 09:34:52

I don't really notice acting unless it's really bad. However last night when we were watching H of C Kevin Spacey gives the camera an almost imperceptible look when he was at a civil war reenactment and it was just so amazingly well done when it could've been so hammy.

pancakesfortea Mon 24-Feb-14 09:43:48

OMG. Finished it last night. Episode 12 (or was it 11? With the bodyguard) went seriously weird! Loved it though. Will there be a series three?

TheChroniclesOfMeap Mon 24-Feb-14 09:47:07

Absolutely loved this. Watched it in a couple of marathon sessions smile Don't want to add too much detail incase of spoilers. Waiting for the next episode of True Detective now and roll in series 3 smile

LordPalmerston Mon 24-Feb-14 09:50:06

Several people in rl have said that two isnt as good as the first
Kevin spacey's magic typewriter being the most implausible but
also the presidents wife - surely someone as experienced as her would have seen through Claire at SOME point

LordPalmerston Mon 24-Feb-14 09:51:02

plus the accident in ep 1
simply chalked up as suicide? nah

LordPalmerston Mon 24-Feb-14 09:53:55

( and HOW did FU escape security detail?)

IPokedABadgerWithASpoon Mon 24-Feb-14 10:05:19

I love house of cards! Stumbled on it one night as I wasn't feeling well and thought I'd give it a go as I like Kevin spacey and now I'm hooked! I even chose it over call the midwife last night as I just want to see want happens next!

Ubik1 Mon 24-Feb-14 10:27:19

The bodyguard thing - Dp and I both shouted out 'noooooooo' - hideous

Ubik1 Mon 24-Feb-14 10:29:15

I thought season 2 was better - the focus on the White House was more interesting than the drippy journalists

tobiasfunke Mon 24-Feb-14 11:15:03

Look could you stop with the spoilers please. Some of us aren't up to speed.

Ubik1 Mon 24-Feb-14 11:20:51

LordPalmerston Mon 24-Feb-14 12:14:58

Stop reading a thread about it then!

Llareggub Mon 24-Feb-14 13:27:39

So, he doesn't actually have sex with Claire? And the 3 terminations she had, none were his and one was the photographer? Is that right?

Just watched the first episode of Season 2. Was totally shocked and like PP had to rewind.

Am so tempted to binge on the rest of the season but DH wants to be sensible. Sigh.

issimma Tue 25-Feb-14 14:35:25

Absolutely loving it - halfway through season 2 now. Kevin Spacey's character is fabulously conniving.

I really enjoyed the relationship between Frank and Clare - you know when you read about these power couples; the rumours about infidelity, manipulation, power play.... and yet they stay together, this series shows how these partnerships might work.

They are both utterly ruthless, on the surface they love and respect each other yet underneath there is this toxic co-dependency.

I really hope there's a season 3..there must be with so much left unresolved.

We've lost weekends due to this excellent series.

Thanks smile

WOW grin All finished here, in my opinion Kevin Spacey is surreal. He was not one of my favourite actors but he is now! Totally steals the show ......
How can we wait until 2015 for Season 3?

NumptyNameChange Wed 26-Feb-14 07:10:50

i am saving them up for a binge soon so am not reading people's posts as i don't want spoilers.

Oh my God that was good. Season 3 now please!

BrennanHasAMangina Fri 28-Feb-14 02:30:53

Oh. My. God. Just watched Chapter 24 shock shock shock. What the actual???

Ubik1 Fri 28-Feb-14 09:37:04

I know grin

The people complaining about spoilers have no idea how much we are NOT discussing on this thread grin

Jux Fri 28-Feb-14 10:55:57

Oh. I thought House of Cards was a BBC series from the 80s (?) about conniving MP played by the late much-lamented Ian Richardson, whose catchphrase was something like "You might say that. I couldn't possibly comment." Chilling, it was. And very very good.

Am I out of touch or what?grin

Ubik1 Fri 28-Feb-14 11:30:34

It is based on that series. Wasn't it a drama inspired by the last days of the Thatcher government?

I've got the day off and I'm half way through Season 2.

Shall I bin off the house work and watch as many episodes as possible until the school run? grin

issimma Fri 28-Feb-14 12:03:21

I'm watching Season 2 finale tonight. SO tempted to watch it now, but fear DH would kill me grin.

Holy Crap! Just finished the last episode! What am I going to watch now??

Also we need a spoilers thread.

Choccymummy1 Fri 28-Feb-14 20:56:44

Had a marathon House of Cards Session and watched all of Season 2 in one sitting ( I know, but there was an entire 5kilo box of Thorntons to be disposed of, and I had to find something to do whilst scoffing them!!)
Kevin Spacy is equal parts sexy and sadistic! Its a cracking show but without adding any spoilers the whole thing does somewhat deteriorate into a farce half way through. Surely no President of the USA is "That" out of the loop?!

But having said that I will be on the edge of my seat for Season 3, note to self: purchase more chocolates.

BrennanHasAMangina Fri 28-Feb-14 21:01:37

Ooh. YY to a spoilers thread. Nobody I Know in RL is watching except DH and I NEED to debrief about that thing. that happened. with Meacham shock <still traumatized>.

fitflopqueen Sat 01-Mar-14 18:13:33

What to watch next?, we have just finished season 2 this afternoon.

Justyou Sun 02-Mar-14 08:37:41

I ve never even heard of it - gutted I ve missed out but will try to catch up with it.
I love Kevin spacey though - I love watching; lie to me, walking dead, game of thrones, the following ...... Will I love this too ???

Justyou Sun 02-Mar-14 08:38:28

Ooh and dexter - loved that too

fusspot66 Sun 02-Mar-14 09:24:49

Dh and I are trying to eke out series 2 but it's so gripping. The background on Claire makes her more real. Military standoff so reminiscent of Ukraine situation.

I started watching Season 3 of The Killing last night but it really doesn't compare to HOC.

Tonight I am going to search Netflix for Kevin Spacey and start watching everything he has ever been in. Not that I'm obsessed or anything.hmm

Also SPOILERS: but YY to discussing Meacham. Although I don't know if I really want to think too much about it IYKWIM. [shudder]

TheHoneyBadger Sun 02-Mar-14 11:28:12

have you watched damages pete? it's old but i didn't see it when it was out first and if you like dark ambiguous powerful characters and young women playing with fire you would enjoy that i reckon.

Thanks Honey have added it to the list. smile

IorekByrnisonsArmour Sun 02-Mar-14 17:35:46

Watched the final 2 episodes last night shockshock

Season 2 was brilliant! Franks asides to camera (the audience) are fantastic and often creepy/scary

I really enjoyed Claire more so in this season

As a PP said, hurry up with orange is the new black!!

( I think I'll watch the finale again tomorrow without DP as he is a "chatty watcher angry) grin

IorekByrnisonsArmour Sun 02-Mar-14 17:36:52

Damages - a very good series smile

Can we discuss some of the storylines because no one in RL is watching this?

Bob mentioned this up thread but if Claire and Frank don't sleep with each other what was the Meacham thing about?

Why did the Underwoods want Christina sacked from the White House?

Seth Grayson-Is he up to something or does he just want some power?

How can the VP become President even though he wasn't elected?

TheHoneyBadger Sun 02-Mar-14 18:21:38

put it to the TOP of the list pete - it is the reason i haven't devoured HOC yet. if you like spacey's character and dynamic i think you'll like glenn close's. i'm amazed damages was so little heard of here.

TheHoneyBadger Sun 02-Mar-14 18:22:09

ooh i get called 'honey' with this name - i like it grin

desertbaby Sun 02-Mar-14 18:44:53

I binged on first series this summer with newborn baby.

I started this series and then obsessed and watched it in a week. No mean feat with a toddler and 9 month old!

Got completely confused by the actual politics - hah but loved the characterisation. Claire is truly outrageous and way steelier than I could have ever have imagined.

The body guard? Meacham. Oh my word! Did not see that coming. So to speak.

Netflix: rubbish for films but the tv makes up for it

Please, if you haven't watched already, Orange is the New Black. Watch it now!

Sons of Anarchy? Thought I would hate it. Love it.
Where is series 5/6 though?

desertbaby Sun 02-Mar-14 18:46:55

I watched the first 3 series of Damages but got bored.

TheHoneyBadger Sun 02-Mar-14 19:20:20

i'm only on season 2 desert baby - i can imagine it's stretching it by season 3.

newsecretidentity Mon 03-Mar-14 21:38:01

Oh My God. I was watching the first episode of series 2, and shouted so loud, I can't believe the kids didn't wake! If that's how they start it, I can't imagine how they'll carry on!

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret Thu 06-Mar-14 10:46:09

Finished now. I loved, loved, loved it. Don't want to post spoilers but so many fantastic surprises. Frank and Claire are Macbeth and Lady M, with Claire having the greatest wardrobe in the world to boot. Also want to big it up for Doug, such a creepy, twisted character. So many enemies lying in wait for them now, can't wait to see what series 3 will bring.

sarahandmallard Fri 07-Mar-14 16:08:41

Why did the Underwoods want Christina sacked from the White House?

- spoiler alert -

Frank is trying to isolate the President and rip apart his support network of advisors. He pretty much even tells you

Yep. Claire was trying to undermine their marriage and plant seeds of doubt that would cause marital stress, lead he and Trisha to go for counselling which could then be leveraged against them, contributing to getting him ousted from office.

areyoutheregoditsmemargaret Sat 08-Mar-14 10:10:02

They wanted Christina sacked because she was a good and strong ally, they were isolating the President from all his supporters.

newsecretidentity Sat 08-Mar-14 14:16:04

The only drawback to watching it on Netflix is that when big things happen, I want to go online and type OMFG! and watch everybody flip out at the same time.

For example, I just watched episode 11. Whoa.

Thanks for the answers about Christina. I wasn't sure if it was because or Russo or just because they enjoying messing with peoples' minds. grin

*of Russo

kateejf Mon 10-Mar-14 14:40:28

Catching up on Netflix and loving it!

triniposse Tue 11-Mar-14 12:06:14

Loving The House of Cards!!!! Squeezing it in at the end of my busy mumsie day,
A well deserved treat for myself.... Will be reserving "house of cards" time regularly, hopefully!!

Ouuuu....., what's going to happen next? Can't wait...

newsecretidentity Tue 11-Mar-14 16:31:27

Just finished. Gutted! My favourite character...

akachan Thu 13-Mar-14 10:50:30

I found the first season a drag to be honest but I am loving season 2.

scottishmummy Thu 13-Mar-14 22:46:56

I completed season 2,is really gripping with a lot of surprises and clever twists
Season2 characters get more nuanced, more developed the development is so interesting
It has a really cinematic quality, the acting, the scripts,it's joy to watch

Late to the party but really enjoying it. Have almost finished series 2 and only started 1 a couple of weeks ago.
What a horrible couple. She is so cold and he so ruthless. Kevin Spacey is amazing but all the acting is great. DH and I have been watching 'one more' episode every night and have been short on sleep. Brilliant!
