What about an auction of promises?

In case you haven't come across this before (if you have, stop reading here grin), you need to ask people to donate a talent/promise which you auction off on the night.

Examples include an hours ironing, a 3 course meal for 6 in their house, a cake a week for a month, a week in a holiday cottage etc etc. They can be very small things but ideally you will have at least one big one (like the holiday cottage).

Get someone who can really act up the roll of auctioneer and make an evening of it.

Blog in development - mostly because I have no idea where to start grin

FB page is an excellent idea. Will do it!

Church is involved.

Fundraisey evening is good. Will ponder what sort. Not a quiz (school and church both done one recently)

What sort of figures are you talking about ?
Do you belong to anything (Church, a choir, a sports club, etc) as people will often get involved if it's someone they know.
Would Cake sales / a fundraising night do it ?

What sort of materials do you need? Can you get anyone to donate stuff or is it pretty specialist?

How about doing a blog or Facebook page of your trip and getting local businesses to sponsor you. You could mention them in your blog and also post a photo of you working on their FB page.

Ideas and advice please. (long term mn-er with my volunteer name on)

I am going to South Sudan in the autumn to work for a month at a nursing and midwifery college.
I am hoping this will be the start of ongoing links with where I work (as a midwife) but the official link stuff is very tentative and drawn out and in the hands of the exec board)

I need to raise some money. To cover my stay (basics. Flights are covered) and more importantly to get supplies of teaching materials to take with me.

Any ideas and suggestion please.

thanks
