My 11.5 yo DS plays SW battlefront (despite it being a 16 - I was cross at my husband for getting it but it actually doesn't look too bad). He is desperate to play in multiplayer mode but I don't want him playing against sweary older kids just yet.

Just wondering if anyone has any helpful advice. I tend to try to ignore these things as long as possible but then come a cropper when I have no idea what to do.

Hi there!
Im 15 years old and the game comes under the category of first person shooters.
These games are usually aimed at older maturer teens.
Multiplayer can be a can of worms especially when you come across roudy teens cursing aloud- though you can mute them so you won't be able to hear their garbage.
I'd personally recommend that your son would wait longer as he is just 11.
Also, starwars battlefront seems like a childish sort of game which gives it that innocent and family feel to it, this may have been the case in which your husband may have bought it.
Explain to him why he (son) isn't allowed to play it, though do reserve it for at a time when is is suitable for it.
However don't leave it like that, get a 12+ game for him. I played a tomclancy aeroplane game which i enjoyed. He may like it too.
However, there are far worse games such as gta v which contian severe nudity, that I'd definitely avoid!!
Also for an hour of play make sure a 15 minute break is taken, an even longer break won't hurt too and this will help avoid eye strain and headaches that can be very painfull.
Please dont be afraid to ask further questions!! Thats why im here after all!!

It's a 12 in the US - exactly the same game. Mine played it there first, so I let them continue playing it at home. But we made a deal of no multiplayer mode if I did.
I'd stay firm on that if I were you.

There's actually no communication between players in multiplayer mode, I've discovered. And still no gore. N

So I have let him onto multiplayer mode as it is literally just more of the same activities but with the other characters on screen being controlled by remote players who can't talk to you.

According to my gamer nephew, the X-box and PS4 versions use the consoles' built-in party system for voice chat for Battlefront. On the PC version, though, they have to use 3rd party software. (I c& p this from his email - it sounds like a bloody foreign language to me.)

I'm not confident about being able to stay ahead of my kids in terms of the technology around online play, so prefer avoiding it completely for now.

I would be able to hear if they were chatting with their actual human voices! And I haven't heard anything.

It's not whether they're saying anything, it's whether they're hearing anything. Or are you saying there's no headset?

Yes, he has no headset.

I expect that is quite frustrating for the other players. Grin

This game, as far as I know, does require some sort of communication. Which might be a reason soon enough he asks you for a headset :)
