Because I haven't got a clue! Games consoles are completely off my radar but dd really enjoyed playing on a friends one the other day and I'm pouncing on any possible ideas for Xmas as I don't know what to get her at all!

What is the lastest one?
Is it suitable for an almost 5 year old? Lots of her friends seem to have had them for a while
I know there are a few kinds of ds, I assume each one is better than the last, are the games all specific to 1 particular 'generation' of console?
Where is the best place to buy one?

I am COMPLETELY clueless! Any advice or tips would be most welcome. Thanks!

I would recommend a 2ds, I got one for my birthday this year! I think you can get them for around ??50 or ??60 with a game at the minute.

3ds gives me a headache but you can play all the 3ds games on a 2ds.

Try Tesco and Amazon to buy as well.

Brilliant, thankyou :) I'll have a look. Are there any games you'd recommend?

I think you can turn the 3d off though? It might grow with her as she wants the newest games. 2ds is sturdier and as said 3ds games can be used in 2ds without the 3d. Any Mario is good!

You can turn the 3D effect off on a 3DS and you can also control it with Parental Controls, so your DS would not be able to turn 3D on without permission.
I have no idea about the 2DS though!

I've just bought the 3ds xl for my ds for his birthday. He's 7 so should be ok to play in 3d from time to time.
My brother is a big gamer so I asked him and a few of his mates and they all recommended the xl.
Argos have got the skylanders trap team starter pack for the ds reduced to £17.99 from £50 at the minute too.

my DS have all has Nintendo DS and 3ds's We currently have 2 3DS belonging to the 10 and 8 year old. The youngest will be getting a new 3DS XL for his 5th birthday. The 10, nearly 11 year old doesn't play his much anymore since getting an iPad but prior to that they've all had hours of fun and there been great on long car and plane trips. They never, ever use the 3D. I would be happy for the older ones to do so but they don't like it.

for longevity I'd get a 3DS not 2DS - a 9/10y old will play on a 3DS out and about but not a 2DS I think.
