Going to Centerparcs Winter Wonderland in 12 days. Stupidly excited!

Honestly I am! I have heard such mixed reports about it and honestly I am not worried but very happy to be going away with my family for 5 days.

There are going to be sparkly twinkly christmas lights and reindeers. We are going to hire bikes and cycle through the woods, go swimming every day, sleep in and not get dressed until late morning, see father christmas, go on a christmas treasure hunt, play board games, eat lots of chocolate, sit in front of an open fire and toast marshmallows. Not have to do any housework other than a bit of cleaning after eating (we have a 'maid' although pointed out to DH it is unlikely to be a long legged, long blonde haired swedish beauty). We might do some arts and crafts, we might not which means we won't

There will be no bumsex as we are not there on a friday.

It is the start of our christmas preparations and after such a difficult year filled with health problems, lack of sleep and lack of a real holiday away as a family (last trip away was marred somewhat by DS getting chicken pox half way through the long weekend).

Come and tell me all your happy stories to make me feel more excited! And give me any tips to make our trip extra special and stress free (like, we are going to take some frozen meals in tupperware to reduce the need to take every single item of condiment and food from home or buy stuff there that we just have to take back with us)

Book into the spa for some treatments

juneybean Thu 06-Dec-12 13:29:05

Oh I'm jealous! We were meant to go in 2010 but the snow was really bad and we missed out.

I haven't beven to see the Christmas stuff but went over new year once and it was lovely. The woods were lit up, there were bagpipers lining the path to the party and fireworks over the lake at midnight. Df went in for the day last week and said it was great, watched fireworks from the beach then went for a brandy spiked hot chocolate.

I love centre parcs in winter, more so than summer. You can swim outside in the pool or spa, we did that in through snow once. I'm very envy. Ds is only 8mo but we'll take him in a couple of years when he can appreciate it. Have fun!

PavlovtheCat Thu 06-Dec-12 13:39:16

I am even more excited now, as only 4 days to go! I have just registered online and booked our bikes and the christmas carvery, going to book a treatment of some kind too.

DD is very very excited!

I am more excited than if this was a trip abroad.

And I love the sound of the brandy spiked hot chocolate!

TurkeyDino Thu 06-Dec-12 13:45:37

We went a few weeks ago. With 3yo and 3 month old so didn't do loads. It was lovely though, plenty of swimming, walks and playgrounds. Ds1 went to see Santa and had a pony ride after which he loved.

We took loads of food, had full English breakfast every day and just chilled out.

We didn't have an open fire thoughsad maid service was great!

Have a fantastic time smile

You have to go to the pancake house for a brandy hot chocolate and massive pancake then complain that you feel sick. I do this every time blush Which one are you going to?

If you get a chance go into the Aqua Sana and have a treatment. We don't generally do many activities just lots of walking and eating! We did archery once which everyone enjoyed and we had from age 8 to 70 in the group.

PavlovtheCat Thu 06-Dec-12 14:56:03

We are going to Longleat. I have been assured we have an open fire in the cabin we booked (I called in a panic!) but still worrying we won't have one.

We are not planning on doing much either. We want to relax and get away from it all, so seeing santa, doing a christmas trail and eating carvery, that is all we have booked. Anything else will be a case of seeing what we fancy at the time.

Oh it would be terrible to have to eat an enormous pancake and an alcoholic hot chocolate...

Longleats nice. I've only been once but Kiev it's not as flat as the others so nice for walking and cycling. Have a pancake for me smile

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 19:10:16

One more sleep to go <jumps up and down>

Wood for fire in car, pretty much everything is packed, just tidying do its nice to come home to.

tiredemma Sun 09-Dec-12 19:13:08

We love it. Used to go every year just before Christmas ( until in laws purchased house in France where we now go skiing). Cp is just great before Christmas. Perfect.

Amblin Sun 09-Dec-12 19:13:44

god really dont be.
its a few animatronic polar bears

juneybean Sun 09-Dec-12 19:15:10

Enjoy Pavlov! You'll have a brilliant time!

memphis83 Sun 09-Dec-12 19:17:56

We are also going tomorrow! So excited...we are going to Elveden though. You will be there on Friday morning so bumsex in the morning is possible, I won't be bothering though we are more into stuffing our faces all week!
My friend is there now she has had an amazing time and just text to say don't miss the fireworks as they are amazing!

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 19:18:47

amblin oh how lovely. Make a habit of crushing someone's excitement do you? Well, even if it is animatronic polar bears my dc will be in awe. And you can't beat me down that easily. I am STILL excited.

Amblin Sun 09-Dec-12 19:19:44

adn twenty million pounds for a poxy pancake.

we went - it was ok. but full of folk in leisure wear thinking they are in Colorado.
And they are south of swindon

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 19:20:42

memphis oh fireworks? I kissed that<goes off to check day > shame, we could have had a MN code to recognise each other!

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 19:22:24

amblin Dh is a chef, he will make our pancakes! I am However paying seventy million pounds for a christmad carvery. And have mortgaged the house for bicycle hire.

Amblin Sun 09-Dec-12 19:22:54

MorrisZapp Sun 09-Dec-12 19:27:04

In the novel Deaf Sentence by David Lodge, the guy and his wife and two friends go for a new years break at CP.

It sounded pretty good in that, although ruined for our hero slightly by the other couple shagging loudly all night as he tries to sleep off his impotent depression.

<lives in novels>

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 19:46:41

morris grin

MyLifeIsStillChaotic Sun 09-Dec-12 19:53:27

I knew I'd find you on a Centre Parcs thread Memph wink

I love, love, love winter wonderland, we've been a few times (only to Whinfell though) and loved it every time. The first time was in the snowy winter of 2010 and it was amazing. Have fun!

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 20:39:20

Oh to have some snow, that would be awesome. I suspect we won't but that won't matter. We are all packed, kids are asleep. Amazingly, I didn't think DD (6.5) would sleep at all tonight! She was up packing at 6am this morning (did a good job too)!

We are leaving at 9am. 3 hours drive we think, plus hour to stop off and get supplies in supermarket, kids to stretch legs. Plus an hour of us getting lost, generally faffing as we do so will get there for 1-2pm. Already checked in, so just got to park up, take a little walk around, then go for a swim while the crowd ram each other out of the way to their cabins! It all sounds so smooth and simple that we will probably end up getting there at 5pm grin

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 20:39:44

memph have a great time yourself!

duende Sun 09-Dec-12 20:50:26

Pavlov, we went last weekend, to Elveden Forrest. It was our first time at CP and we really enjoyed it. It was cold :D we went swimming every day, rode bikes through the woods, had massive pancakes the complained we felt sick ;) the open fire in the lodge was lovely. We had ducks, squirrels, birds and little deer come for breakfast smile
DS saw Santa and then we went to see a nice, xmassy fireworks display over the lake.
Enjoy it!

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 20:58:33

duende oh that sounds perfect, that is exactly what we plan on doing! what day was the fireworks? I wonder if it is the same day in each location?

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 20:59:46

and we are all prepared for cold. We have vests and jumpers, and welly socks and waterproofs, gloves, hats, scarfs! All packed as we speak [grin. Oh, except, I haven't seen the kids animal hats <runs off to search for them>

memphis83 Sun 09-Dec-12 21:00:33

At Elveden the fireworks are on Wednesday. And I would happily pay 20 million pounds for a pancake house pancake.
We are painting christmas decorations at the pottery studio, having the carriage ride to see santa, going to the mini farm with Mrs Christmas.
I also have lots of nuts and seeds to feed the already large wildlife.
Have a great time.

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 21:00:38

amblin talking of attire, what do people from Colorado wear exactly? probably what I have just described

memphis83 Sun 09-Dec-12 21:03:17

I have packed my christmas pudding hat! You will get the timetable of the weeks activities at the gate so won't miss the fireworks.

duende Sun 09-Dec-12 21:03:55

The fireworks were on Sunday and Wednesday I think.
The one thing i didn't enjoy as much with a winter break was how short the days were. It's completely dark shortly after 4 now and with a 3 year old there is not that much to do outside in the dark.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll have an amazing time smile

Wilts Sun 09-Dec-12 21:04:18

We went to longleat on day passes yesterday . Father Christmas tried to give ds3 (5 months ) a chocolate coin to eat shock grin

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 21:06:06

oh we are going with a 3yr old. we have torches, so will go for a dark stroll in the woods, and if it is clear we will go star gazing with him and DD. He loves the dark with a torch. We went to Eden project for halloween and the rainforest dome was in almost pitch black, with people dressed as ghouls howling like wolves, he loved it, but had to have his torch in his mits.

And, as back up, we have pens, paper, chocolate, and thomas on the ipad to keep him amused grin

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 21:07:44

memphis oh, see, that would have been a good code for us. Christmas Pudding hats! grin DD has a reindeer hat, fabulously furry and warm, just needs a red nose on it, and DS has a wolf hat but won't wear it.

didn't realise you can go on day passes, not that we would as it is quite a trek for one day!

Wilts Sun 09-Dec-12 21:12:02

We only got in on a day pass as a friend was staying.

Enjoy - I am sure the dc will love it, we didn't want to come home yesterday !

ELR Sun 09-Dec-12 21:13:41

Pavlov, I am here now in villa no 318 watching xfactor final dd has just toasted her 6th marshmallow on the open fire!! We bought the marshmallows in the shop there are American ones and absolutely massive! Don't forget hand and body lotion as all the swimming always makes you dehydrated. Tell your hubby the cleaner is a young lad about 19 or so reasonably cute!
If you plan on cooking I would bring a good knife and there is a wine cooler so plenty of wine!
Have a fab time!

duende Sun 09-Dec-12 21:14:24

Well, DS was so impressed with how big the lodge was he wanted to play hide and seek all the time ;)
After a few hours at the pool and a couple more hours of fresh air, he was quite happy o have some down time inside, as well.

Great, Pavlov, you have now made me browse the CP website checking out prices for May....;)

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 21:18:02

Oh good spot! we are not far from that spot ourselves tomorrow. We are in the 'pink' area. Wine is on my list. thanks for the knife tip, DH will be pleased about that! and we do have marshmallows on our list!

duende what lodge did you have? Good to hear it is spacious grin

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 21:18:58

ELR so, rather than DH wanting to stay in to make sure the cleaner does it all properly, I shall have to watch over him wink or, given my age, is that very wrong? grin

ELR Sun 09-Dec-12 21:22:48

Yes something like that! I'm 35 and felt like a perv typing he was cute!

PavlovtheCat Sun 09-Dec-12 21:27:52

ok, but you did type it, and as you are the same age as me and i thought it, it cant be wrong. right?

PicaK Mon 10-Dec-12 09:06:20

Hope you are having a fab time

PavlovtheCat Mon 10-Dec-12 19:17:17

We are in, I have wine, it is fab. We got through the barrier st 3.05pm, how perfect is that! Kids are just so happy! En suite bathrooms which I did expect. Had bern warned decor was old and tred but its modern ikea style, lovely, even have a built in beer/wine fridge!

Outdoor pool looks amazing steaming hot, in the dark with Christmas lights around it, very atmospheric. We have our bikes, not fallen off yet!

PavlovtheCat Mon 10-Dec-12 19:18:21

elr you still here? We are in, not far from you. It's lovely

FairyChristmas Mon 10-Dec-12 20:10:26

So glad I found this thread - we are going for Christmas week (to Elvedon) and this has made me even more excited!!

ELR Mon 10-Dec-12 21:23:31

Hi no sadly back at home with a mountain of washing!! We had such a fab time, the atmosphere was really chrismassy and I feel super relaxed now. Make sure you go swimming at night, well tea time really it gets dark at 4.30. Hope you have a fab time.

Ooh all excited now we go to longleat next Monday!

All booked (& paid for !!) by the ils.

Allegedly have a hot tub though fil is a notorious piss taker grin so that may b a wind up..

FairyChristmas Mon 10-Dec-12 23:32:48

girls am envy at your ILs paying - it does cost an arm and a couple of legs!

ELR will definitely take the kids swimming after dark...hope we find our way back again... grin

Yep it definitely does- they are paying for me dh our FOUR dcs, bil & sil plus their two, sil and her three and themselves!

Think they may have robbed a bank??

It's in honour of sil coming over from Australia so we actually all spend some time together.

PavlovtheCat Tue 11-Dec-12 13:41:58

girly lucky! You are going to love it. Just been swimming. Lots of fun! It's very frosty, with misty breath outside, so it feels Christmassy. They have made huge efforts to make it festive, I am impressed.

There are saunas in some of the bigger accommodation, as well as a hot tub and some have games rooms too. We have a whirlpool bath with is fun enough with the little ones.

Accommodation is great, beds very comfy, housekeeping dd a great job.

Can't wait!

Just booked Cinderella the pantomime, carriage ride, Zumba class, visit to Santa.

Also have booked mil & sil into the spa for the evening as its mils birthday.

PicaK Tue 11-Dec-12 21:59:19

Oh i'm going on Monday too - am also getting excited. Just the 3 of us though.

Have you seen the family cabanas for hire in the subtropical swimming paradise? Not worth it for us 3 but might be good for your big posse. I would def book if i were in a big group. (Under extras on the website along with car valeting).

Yes fil booked it as his first priority!

If you're at longleat & at the pool Tuesday mornibg you ll see us there!

FairyChristmas Wed 12-Dec-12 21:27:40

Ooh we have booked Santa, the christmas tree, Christmas lunch, jet ski things on Christmas morning and treasure trail for the boys, and horse riding and princess party and pop party for DD.

Maybe that's why it was so dear blush

But what a fab way to spend Xmas morning though?! grin

FairyChristmas Wed 12-Dec-12 23:15:45

girls am deliberately not looking up details on the carriage ride otherwise I might book that too!!

PicaK Wed 12-Dec-12 23:57:01

I've booked Cinderella, santa, iceskating, bowling and kiddies fencing (!).

I was too late to get ds in for the jetskis though, drat.

I will look out for your large posse!

Yes we were also too late for the jet ski..

Probably a good thing. [bankrupt emotcion] !

PavlovtheCat Thu 13-Dec-12 08:58:54

We really haven't done too much. Kids have been mesmerised enough just by being here so great on our wallet. And ds is poorly with coughing bug so no enjoying the cold. We also rush around too much at home so have been enjoying really lazy mornings, cooked brekky, bike rides, swimming (kids love the pool and slides) pancakes, Santa, open fire, fireworks. Think the kids have just enjoyed us having time to sit and play with them. I painted dds nails with glitter and put jewels on them last night, present from Santa.

There is so much to do, we would be knackered trying todo it all!

Food - we had the family banquet delivered on Tuesday, pizza for kids, Indian for us. The pizza was just pizza, but the Indian was delicious. We got the standard banquet, plenty for us, with poppadum, pickles, Bahji, samosa, three mains, naan, rice, the delivery woman also set it on our table. Very luxurious!

Ooh the Indian sounds lovely! Sil is desperate for a curry..

I am in bed with the coughing bug myself. Very inconvenient as have loads to do

It all sounds wonderful smile

We're going to Whinfell CP from 30th Dec-2nd Jan and I'm very excited now grin

Vagaceratops Thu 20-Dec-12 13:10:19

We went last weekend and it was perfect! It wasnt stupidly busy either and the fireworks were bloody fantastic.

PicaK Thu 20-Dec-12 22:25:17

The fireworks were fab and the pantomime was hilarious.

FairyChristmas Fri 28-Dec-12 17:25:42

Just got back from Elvedon, signs were amended to read Elfedon grin.

Sparkly lights, singing reindeer, great pool, lots of time to relax and cycle - brilliant time. Seriously considering booking next year too!
