Self Catering in Scotland - don't mind where - for a week in Aug

am toying with the idea of a week away with DH & the kids but we can't go far as DH only has holidays right before the schools go back and lack of pennies denies distance

don't mind where as long as its not in a tent - am not at one with nature

Aviemore somewhere?

we did avimore a few years ago, the McDonald highland resort things, was thinking more of a self catering cottage but would be happy with it being in Aviemore

Can highly recommend these lodges. Don't know how much availability they will have now though. Blairgowrie is a lovely town too, everyone is so welcoming.

Lol DizzyDixies, didn't realise you were in Fife, and my next suggestion would have been BurntIsland .

We're looking at going up north this year - Inverness type region. Have been looking at these lodges.... depends on what you fancy and your budget.

I can't give you any specific recommendations, but having just had a few days away, I would suggest Skye. Lots to do, plenty of holiday accomodation, lovely people and scenery.

Carrbridge and Nethy where seb is posting about are very close to each other.

Carrbridge also has Landmark!

Report
dizzydixies · 14/06/2009 21:08

I remember Landmark but bloody hell its improved since I was last there in 1996

It certainly has

Report
Wallace · 14/06/2009 21:20

Just looked at your profile and your girls are maybe still a little bit young to enjoy Landmark to the full.

It's best when you can just sit back and let them rampage all by themselves!

friends of ours were up doing our half term a few weeks ago and her 9yr old was jumping off the skydive thing much to her father's horror as he went up with her despite his fear of heights

can't wait till they're old enough for Go Ape as well

bumsrush, we've 3 girls aged 6,3 and will be 1. prefer country and I would like it to be within a few hours drive of where we are (NE Fife) as it will be a bit rushed for my return to work and DD1's school starting again

have been looking and some places are asking >£1k for a wk self catering and we're nowhere in that league!!

don't mind heading to Highlands/Northumberland/skye/applecross/Arran/Lakes etc etc just not wanting another trip to NI as thats where the inlaws are and we're there ALL the time
