Although not a working farm, they have pigs, lambs/sheep, chicken, ducks, rabbits, guinea pigs etc to feed at Torridge House, we have stayed here twice now in Hen cottage and it is fabulous. Twice daily animal feeding, plenty of outdoor toys for toddlers and a small indoor area to play. Not too far from beach, nearest I think is Westward Ho(about 20 mins drive from what I can remember)! We also loved the beach at Bude. Next door to Torridge House is a pottery painting studio Glebe and they also have a cottage and animals. How old are your children?

Ohh I stay in Hen too! I was just coming to the thread to recommend it. I've stayed 3 times in Hen and first time we went we were in Lin, as the hen block were just being converted.

I actually prefer Instow beach as lovely and flat (safe) with dunes at the back to play extended games of hide'n'seek when building sancastles has paled.

Appledore is a quaint village nearby, we always hire bikes/trailers from Barnstaple bike hire and head down the Tarka trail towards Fremington Quay where there is a fab cafe. You can go the other way towards Torrington and eat at the Puffing Billy, but not as nice imho.

For older children, who could entertain themselves reading or ipoding, I would probably go back to a smaller cottage - DS is very lively and needs lots of indoor space so we go for Hen, but the price difference is quite astonishing.

Highly recommend www.bampfieldfarm.co.uk

We stayed in "the Haven" for a week in March and it was wonderful - Lynda (the Farmers Wife) couldn't do enough for us.

Collected eggs every morning, went down to see the cows being milked, fed the goats and chickens... There's also a playroom full of toys and a lovely outdoor play area with ride on tractors, slides, swings and a wendy house.

2-3 miles from Barnstaple, v close to lots of child friendly 'attractions' and about 15-20 mins to Wollacombe/Croyde/Saunton.

Loved it so much that we definitly plan to return next year.
